Honestly, a waste of money. I don't normally buy dot any domain unless I have its dot com.

Even if you have the dot com, who cares about dot world? What difference does it make?

Don't make a mistake of trying to buy dot world of a domain name that somebody already acquired the dot com or dot org. Sooner a later, you will be sending traffic to that dot com site.

i think it'd be pretty cool if i owned Disney. Otherwise, about as useless to me as any other extention that's not .com

Flipping purposes thats why this question is for people who do this for a living.

I am looking for full time domainers to chime in on this one.

Most of the very valuable .coms were bought years ago with the newer extensions its wide open pretty much.

But i tend to agree with the comments above.

I'll let the full-time domainers fill in from here, but two points:

.somerandomword domains are less valuable because they are less brandable than the widely used, commercial, .com domains. Thus, in business, less likely to get a high price.

The newer extensions are wide open, because right now they're not very valuable. That could change, one day, assuming something drastic happens.. like, perhaps spammers going wild or a search engine algorithm change putting MORE emphisis on those domains. However, thats unlikely and unpredictable. (but, it is Google after all so who knows).

Lastly, although I don't do it myself, I believe domain flipping essentially relies on the flippers strategic eye in finding domains for sale below market value, and already having, or able to establish a buyer for the domain, and effectively be the middle man.

Any domain extension can be flipped and sold, it doesn't matter what TLD you have if it's .com .net. org .mobi .cc or whatever the real mission is to find buyers that want to purchase.

People purchase domains for a lot of different reasons so if you want to buy a .world and try to resell make sure you have an audience to try and sell it to. Building a list of buyers is probably the fastest way to do that.

I do believe that the gTLDs are the easiest to sell.

As has been stated, it all depends on what you intend to do with it. As for registering it to flip, you'll have a much harder time doing so than with the .COM version, and won't get nearly the price.

As for using it for yourself, understand that any extension other than .COM will lose traffic to the owner of the .COM, because that's just how people think.

I agree. It will take a lot more money to brand a non-.com domain than it's .com equivalent. I'm not sure what the .world people are doing to market their extension. But I think it has more general purpose value than a .shoes, .build or .directory for example. Some extensions take a "let the customer do our marketing" approach (.cool, etc.) than let's say a .vegas or .tv that seemed to put more marketing dollars in their initial launch.

It's not something I'm investing in, myself.

I see that in the long run there may be some interesting possibilities for some of them, but I have enough to do, just dealing in .com's.

The new ".shoes" domain-extension is the one that really interests me.

Personally, I think it's a waste of money. The only domain extensions that really matter (IMHO) are .com and whatever your country extension is - .co.uk, .ca, .com.au etc..

.com or .net should be everything to you... or local extension if you are making local... always try to find .com, after than goes .net

Dot coms are considered to be the industry standard. I don't think that any other fancy extensions will ever match the value of a good dot com name. Dot coms will increase in value subject to supply and demand during economic good and bad years. I prefer to invest in a saleable dot com than any other type of instrument.

If I had £500,000 at my disposal, I would buy 10 really good names with it. Low interest rates must also help the popularity of domain investing.

There are still huge opps for finding good .com domains (maybe not single names) but 2 and 3 word names.

I have a portfolio of 250 names and I add 3 to 4 names to that list every week. I prefer quality over quantity that's just my preference.
