First Post :) Niche Questions.

Hey guys,
So to keep it brief, I am an aspiring Internet Marketer/Blogger/Copywriter. I have a huge passion for words, and also realising my dreams, and of course making money by building online profitable and beneficial businesses to help people!

I've been researching, thinking and conceptualising which niche's to go into.
I've had quite the life, even though I'm only 24, and many people have said to me that I have a magical way with words, and that my posts on Facebook have both inspired and helped them more than they can say. I've kicked a bad addiction all by myself, realised so many dreams that no 1 has for my age, transformed my body, mind & soul by large amounts as time passes. Come out of a dark and hard time, and am now thriving in many aspects. After depression, anxiety, lots of bullying issues, a deadly drug addiction and other things.

I'm a very passionate person and love helping others. I have a gift to Inspire people, and also share my Spiritual Journey with them.

So. The Niche(s) I would really love to write about would be a combination blog of Motivation/Inspiration/Positivity/Self-Help & Self Improvement. And Spirituality.

I've done keyword research and the Number of searches per month for things like
"How to be happy" "Inspirational Quotes" "Motivation" "Depression", "Meditation" "Spirituality" all have in the high 1000's of searches with a Low competition.

Now I have read many articles and watched many videos on how to find a profitable niche, and many of them say it's not only about high searches, but also if people are spending money in those niches.

Would you guys say the above niches are profitable? And what other aspects would I look at to research this myself?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

I've been following this forum for many years, and been wow'd many times by how many of you awesome people help others succeed in Online businesses, so it is an honor to finally have joined.

This may sound a bit silly, but a quick answer to your questions is Amazon. Goto Amazon, Take "How to be happy" and type it into the search bar. How many items appear? now type in "Depression" how many there? what do you think would be the better choice? Now try "motivation" and "meditation"

Here is where it gets amusingly whacked. now try "Lego" or "Xbox". ok lego competition would be "Mega Bloks" and Xbox would be "playstation" or better yet "Wii U"

Doing this gives you an idea of demand based apon the number of products in comparison to one another. There is obviously more Lego than mega bloks. there is more xbox than Wii U. and there is more "Meditation" then all of them combined LOL so you can use this simple method to start targeting where the money may be.

Solid tip! Keyword research is absolutely key. Feeling out the market before you start promoting or selling something is where most online marketers fail and ultimately burnout from trying too hard.

Go for keywords that are used less frequently in your niche.
the Google Keyword Tool is great for this kind of research.

      Good luck!

In my experience, the niche itself is not important...your passion for it is. And as long as you're writing passionate articles that people can connect with, then you will succeed over time. I think the major problem with this forum is that everyone comes here and says, "What idea will make me the most money?" But that's not the way to think about it at all.

Just write about what you know and love, forget about the money while you're doing it, and build a subscriber base. Make those people smile, give them inspiration, and then find new ways to bring in even more traffic. Then try to monetize.

Because if you do it the other way around, then you're not trying to motivate or be helpful...you're trying to make money. And you'll get frustrated when the money is not there at first, so then you'll let down your few followers by not being genuine. So if you really want to be a writer, just start writing and engaging people. That's the big secret...just write.

In terms of niche wise, it really is endless. As long as people are spending money in that market (a good way to tell is if other marketers are successfully cashing in) then you're good.

I haven't personally dealt with the niches mentioned but I know a few who have been extremely successful that played around with those niches.

It really boils down to your website's goals. How exactly are you monetizing your website?

There's a difference between targeting a keyword with buying intention but really low searches than one that generates a lot of traffic but barely any conversions.

Awesome story man...good to see you are moving on in your life to the next exciting phase.

You have identified both areas you are passionate about and where you have personal stories to tell - that is powerful, definitely continue on this path.

What you want to do next is focus on the specific challenges, problems, desires within this space and target these with content, sales funnels (list building) and offers.

For example, meditation - can you find sub-niches that are more specific?

You may choose to pick the #1 challenge people have that guides them to meditation (Ex stress, being lost in life, depression, etc...) OR you can focus on one specific meditation method that works better than others because you find people are really searching for how to make meditation work for them.

In other words, the next phase of your market research needs to be around "hot button" sales triggers - you can do that by monitoring discussions, take a very close look at what is selling and what is not, testing different content topics (videos, blog posts, Facebook posts) to see which ones get the most response, and building an initial list to test some affiliate products out on to get a sense for the big hitters.

The biggest mistake people make when they enter Personal/Self Development is they focus on theory and/or the techniques used instead of the actual problems people seek PD to solve.

    Hope that helps,

    Jeff

All of the markets you've mentioned are profitable. None of them are niches, by the way. They're all huge markets. Most people here don't think it's important but going into business and taking the time to learn and speak the proper terminology is important if you want to be taken seriously outside of venues like this one.

The biggest mistake anyone starting out is putting a lot of effort into keyword research in the hopes of favorable search engine treatment. Forget that. It's a waste of time. There are far too many well seasoned pages out there (billions) to try and complete.

What you should be doing is isolating a real niche (niche is a French word that means small crevice or nook) and build a community around it. You do that with original and syndicated content. The goal is to impress your visitors so much that they look to you as an authority for your topic and tell their friends about you.

Targeted, quality traffic comes from quality content not the futile nonsense of trying to manipulate keywords and backlinks and all the rest of the nonsense. And if you offer quality content you'll get your share SE traffic by default.

The rest is easy. Build a list and create your own products or become an affiliate for the various products your followers will desire. Then overwhelm them with quality and great service. It's the same success formula that's existed in business for multiple centuries only on an electronic platform. Good luck.

Huh, I honestly would of thought those those search keywords would be extremely competitive..

If you find any more great keywords or longtail keywords, don't share them here, they can easily get stolen!

Are you kidding me? Meditation and Depression.. and all of the rest are low competition?

Dude, you must go back and re-read your first course very well, or choose another one that shows you how to find low competition keywords (Generally longtails)

Pick a very specific niche and start your blog about it. Remember that people are looking for quality information. Many people spend a lot of time and money doing keyword research, building links, and doing SEO, but they forget that providing good content is very important.

Building a tribe or community around that specific niche is also very important. Forget about the money, if you put money first, you will always be tempted by the next shining objects.

Be passionate about this niche. Provide good information, be a known person in its community and you will see money coming your way.

You can see what associations or organizations exist in your niches and check out their magazines or Websites. See who is spending money with them via advertising, sponsorships, contests and promotions. Even if it doesn't look like people are spending money on Google Adwords or Facebook Ads, there still may be some opportunity to make money. But you'll need to go where your community is and see who the players are. Chances are, they're spending money in those niche publications, events, etc. and not the search engines.

I think you should follow your heart and create your niche sites in personal development; these niches are profitable.

If I were you, I would put my heart and soul into at least 5 of these niche sites at a time and get them to at least 25 articles apiece, and I would add social networking signals to them from YouTube, Facebook, etc.

I would also create an optin form and put it on the sidebar as well as in a popup to capture your visitor's emails. Then, every time you write a new post, you can send a broadcast email with information that you just released that content on your site to your subscribers.

Just keep building traffic and subscribers. Somewhere along the way, start using affiliate product links and maybe experiment with Adsense.

The best profitable thing to do would be to create your own products and sell them on your website.

You can also use your websites as a springboard to public speaking engagements. Big money!
