I'm wanting to create my very own forums website but not sure about what. I was really thinking about a body building forums since everyone wants to get in shape. But there is another body building forum that I know I can't compete with lol they have around 9 million members! But ya do you think this is a good idea or do you guys have any advice? Also I would like a partner to help me if you are somewhat experienced in website building. I'm basically looking into the long run/term. But I do need some help so PM me if your interested or reply let me know ASAP please!

No matter what niche you try and break into, there is always going to be someone bigger and better than you that you cannot compete with, unless you have a couple of $100k to help get you going. Starting forums is always incredibly difficult. Why should they go to your mostly empty less popular forum when there is another that is bigger, more popular and offers a tonne of better content.

If you seriously want to start a forum, to be able to compete against the bigger competitors you have to bring something to the table that attracts users to yours instead. If you have the drive and the passion to succeed, then you can create tutorials, guides and some great content and build you forum around that. Eventually people will create accounts to ask you questions and to get help, and at that point you just keep the ball rolling until it picks up pace.

However if your plan is just to pop a basic forum up and simply wait for people to come to you, I would say don't waste your time.

Ya i know where your coming from man the hard part is thinking of something a body building forum doesn't have! So a lot of brainstorming needs to be done for sure. Also not sure what kind of forum I should create like vbullentin, mybb, or others

        The old bodybuilding forum.

Had thoughts of attacking this one myself - but declined. I'd recommend a sub-niche - they can be huge in the fitness/BB world.

Crossfit, Low carb, Slow carb, AAS and on and on.

Tackle one of those if you have your heart set on a forum. I always figured the headache would be too huge for not so much of a payoff - if the intention is $ and not a community purely

I just want to see people get healthy. But no I'm not a body building guru but I am healthy. Seeming this is a very hard niche what are some others I could go for?

I had some experience with other kind of forum. To be successful in this niche, there has to be a authoritative person who is well experienced in fitness industry who can provide inputs to questions asked by make guys and gals.

Secondly you can provide them special discount coupons for various supplements by directly getting in touch with suppliers. Let your users share their experience of discount shopping they got from you on fb etc.

If you yourself into fitness, upload some videos of exercises, show exercises meant for all age groups.

Point out special exercises for ailments which can be cured with exercises rather than visiting a doctor. In this way you will have lot more visitors.

You can recommend products. Give local gym, spa and massage coupons if you can have tie-up with local service providers.

Much more you can do to get lot more traffic and visitors coming in for your forum.

Let me asking you something...do you have a lot of knowledge and passion for bodybuilding ?

It seems you just picked it out because you thought it might be profitable.

Especially with a Forum, I believe you should be eating ,sleeping, and farting bodybuilding if you want to succeed long term

Forums are a tough nut to crack. It can be done . But you must have long term commitment

Bodybuilding isn't only a forum either, they are the largest website for supplement reviews, training plans, and many other fitness aspects.

I think the biggest mistake people make when building forums is that it's the first thing they do.

You should build an audience first around a blog or email list and then launch a forum for that audience.

The biggest problem people with forums have is not having people on the forum, this solves that problem.

I've never launched a forum, and am by no means an expert on making them but I wouldn't launch a forum in a niche unless I had 40k+ people on my list for that niche

Well do any of you have any evergreen niches I could do to start a forum? Like something that is not real popular but can be.

It 's a good idea I think so. But it belong much to how much experience you have on body building industry. Because the high quality article will be required

You have to find a niche inside bodybuilding niche, a sub-niche: ie: Pecs bodybuilding

Because you can't compete with the famous bodybuilding forums

Investment is the main source for developing anything, forums require a lot of funds to get active members and need a good domain or buy an existing forum that has a couple posts.
It takes time to develop a forum with decent investment. Any niche works and to compete anyone when funds are available to invest.

What about a forum not anything specific. Like just a forum that has everything in it that people can join and talk about stuff. Idk if that made sense but ya. Basically freedom, talk about anything forum would that be good?

      Pocketchange,

      You're floundering because
      1. You have not done research into the market to see what kind of demand there might be in the niches you've suggested. You will find demand in the marketplace is certain sub-topics of the "body building" market. Go where there is consumer demand.
      2. You have no plan. Who's going to run your forum? Who's going to set it up? How are you going to monetize it? How are you going to market it? Are you going to sell your own products or affiliate products on the forum site?
      3. Your asking random people here on the WF questions that you should be directing to those people that have successfully done what you want to do. Shouldn't you be talking to successful forum creators, managers, and owners? People here will comment "yea" or "nay" about this being a good idea . . . how do they know unless they have experience in the same market and with the same business model you're contemplating.
      4. You idea for a forum about "not anything specific" is a disaster waiting to happen. No target = no interest.
If you want to be successful, follow successful people and don't pay attention to random comments.

I think whoever said to build a list first had the right idea. It's difficult to maintain a sense of community in a forum when posters are basically wandering in one by one.

On the other hand, the good news about Body Building as a subject is that it has long-term potential. Getting in shape, building muscle, dieting, supplements, and all the rest of that requires quite the time commitment. Even after getting that fit physique, there's maintenance involved which means that you won't have your posters finding what they need and dropping out right away.

As long as you've got a solid gameplan (like the aforementioned list-building strategy), I don't see why a forum like this couldn't work out.

        Ah.

Do you think a subforum might be in the cards for you in that case? Or maybe are you thinking about having two separate forums with slight overlap between them?

Have you thought about offering your members something that other forum doesn't? It might be a good starting point, if you're afraid of competition.

think you'll need to go deeper down the niche rabbit hole than "bodyBuilding" to get noticed.. maybe "german Bodybuilding" or "vegan bodybuilding" etc..

From the looks of it my friend, you're not quite sure what you really want to undertake. Can a Bodybuilding forum be successful... yes! However you will need to put in a lot of work to build the momentum for the forum.

Will you be successful at creating this forum.. I dont know but you cant be ready to jump ship at the first negative response you get. Study what other forum developers have done to launch their forums and get traffic.

Take action on developing your forum, see what works and make adjustments. Google or youtube how to create a forum and get information regarding how to get started.

All you do... be sure to research your market... find an angle that will work best... study it.. take action and tweak.

    gl my friend

Body building seems a good niche to me. IMO there aren't lots of people targeting this niche. It will take time to establish your forum but be persistent! wishing you well

    Narrow down your thinking.

You could create a bodybuilding forum for men over 40...or for women over 40.

Baby boomers are a massive market.

Pick the one that you personally have interest in to start. It will make content creation easier and you will be more driven to continue.

If you have good content and are serving a community there is a place for everyone!

    Good Luck!

I do have a plan to build a fitness instagram and pentrest. Try to get atleast 20k follows then advertise my website to the targeted traffic on my instagram and pentrest. I believe that will bring a bunch of organic traffic to boom of the start your thought?

For a market so competitive for what you are doing, although it is not required, it would be absolutely helpful to actually have some type of advertisement budget, otherwise this may be a long up hill battle.

It is not necessarily the fact that you are in the weight loss market that's the problem, its just that you are going against a very established authority, so by necessity it requires more time, effort, and monetary resources to be reasonably successful

I wouldn't make a forum. BodyBuildingForum already has a LOT of members, and basically owns Google for body building related searches.

I would find a sub-niche inside of body building and try to be an authority on that subject.

Still not gonna happen. You are never going to be able to compete with BB.com or t-nation.

The only people who have a chance of having a successful forums are people who are well known gurus who already have a huge following, people such as Poliquin, elite Fts, etc. And even for them I doubt if its feasable to start a forum these gusy would do much better with a montlhly membership site or something.
