Default Problems with a designer, opinions needed

I will not reveal the person ( male ) who I found here and ultimately had do a small project with satisfaction. He installed a support script for me to use with designers doing work for me.

With the support ticket system, The designer opens a ticket and then all communication between us is secure yet in one place and not relying on emails....pretty simple.

I then solicited a bid on a little larger job. A website to list some basic products on, no pictures, just products in a drop down menu that could be selected and paid through my e-junkie-PayPal account.

He gave me a price and said he could complete the job fast, in a day or so. He then asked me to help him out by paying in advance with a service other than PayPal, he was in a jam and seemed like a good guy. I feel that everyone has been in a jam and been helped at one time or another, I try to help who I can and trust everyone until they cause me reason to no longer do so.

I paid him in mid-May and have had nothing but excuses, one after another, and have no site and will now have to pay someone else to create it for me which does not make me happey in any way.

My question is, has anyone here every been as stupid as me and then been screwed ? Do you post anything about it here ?

I sent emails to him asking for updates and a phone call.....nothing ? He said he had a bad storm in his area that kept him offline for days...then, the storm took out his phone and he could not call me ( he was able to call me to ask for my help $$$, just not since then ) Are many of the individuals offering to do work here simply BS'rs trying to scam others ?

I am quite ashamed to say that I trusted this guy and unfortunately will be much tougher on others in the future....truely sad when your faith in others has been damaged.

Thanks for the input,
Enterpryzman

Yes, quite a few of us have been there. As far as giving details (such as the warriors name and such) that's a big no no in the forums. I would (and have, I might add) just chalk it up to experience and move forward. Just vent and let it go.

Good Luck in your future endeavors.

Enter... sorry that happened to you man. Sounds like a crack addict. Ha! (I had a bad experience with a dude on crack one time).

Try not to let it make you cynical but yes, you should be less trusting of someone brand new. People will tell you anything.

I have pretty much taken the high road in every way with this but, it ticks me off BIG TIME. I do have another desiger I have been very happy with, she works fast and prices are fair. ( also live in my own state )

I was simply trying to have options and more than 1 resource that I could trust.....I guess I will chalk it up and also, will insist on PayPal in the future for a little added protection.

Thanks,

You can always be pretty sure if people want money up front because they are struggling then the struggling wont stop because you pay them.

Now obviously always try to use something like paypal etc if you do pay up front so you can cancel it or raise a query.

It works both ways though as I have had some customers that needed a little help who have ended up screwing me.

That's too bad. Maybe he's just too busy that he won't be able to complete your job. A refund would be great, perhaps?

Happens to everyone now and then. You need to roll with the punches (and stick with Paypal).

You might be able to jam out this project using something as simple as Wordpress, btw. There's an Ecommerce theme and a Market theme for just that purpose.

Warrior Banner Alert System: Get Instantly Emailed when WF Banner Slots Open Up
Wordpress Sales Page Theme: Create Salesletters, Reviews, Squeeze Pages
Wordpress One Time Offer Plugin: Expiring countdown timers for Wordpress
Wordpress Exit Popup Plugin: Unstoppable Exit Popups for Wordpress

Unfortunately, for as many good resources as there are in the Warrior Forums, there are at least 1 bad one.

On the opposite side of this, I have done work for people and not been paid, so I understand the burning feeling that comes with this post.

I would chalk this up as a lesson learned and move on.
