Website not Ranking What to do??

Hi
I have set a website last year for a niche. The site contains affiliate links to amazon.

I have set my website after doing a lot of research and maintained it as per advice of lots of people on the forum.

I have not been successful in ranking in google. For the first few weeks, the website was ranking in around 80 - 90 th position. After 2-3 months it completely vanished from google. Its been more than a year now. I hardly get one hour to work on the website as I am working a
full time job.

Is there any checklist / things I should check for google ranking? At this point, I donot want to reveal the niche or my domain.

In my opinion SEO is waste of time. If you haven't got time and money to spend learn SEO then stay away. There are tons of stuff you need to learn about seo and google ranking before you see your website on the #1 page of google.

And if you finally appear on 1 page of google. the next day google may decide to change algorithm then your site will probably disappear from 1 page.

I suggest you search for other traffic sources. There are tons of traffic sources FREE and Paid

Install Hola in your browser. Select the country and specific country specific google URL and check the ranking. It will give you a provision to check the ranking for all the countries with the IP defined.

As this is SEO related you should post your question here not only because that is the proper subforum for SEO but also because most in here are pretty anti-SEO and the best advice they will give is to simply not bother with SEO!

If you do create a new thread over there make sure to include a link to the site as without being able to see all the factors involved I can't really help anyway.

Hi Omar, you can always create a Google Webmasters Account and go from there. They usually give you messages when you have done something wrong (but not all the time).

SEO is not as easy as it used to be. Google keeps making changes very often.

I am guessing that you may have broken one of their golden rules. May take some time to figure out. If you do learn more about SEO and what's working now, then it may be easier to start a completely new site.

I have also heard that Google doesn't like the small sites having direct affiliate links. They seem to prefer bigger sites like Amazon to have that power and authority.

Hard for the little guy to get up sometimes.

I think the main thing to understand is that you shouldn't create content for the search engines, but rather for the people that are coming to your blog.

There are plnety of other traffic sources other than Google, and if you create quality content and people start sharing your content, then you'll notice a lot of free traffic coming from the search engines too.

It's ok to do basic seo, but make sure you do'nt put all your eggs in that basket or you'll be disappointed in the long run.

I think you need to find a way to dedicate more time to your website, if you want to make it work. Having a normal job is OK, and I understand you don't have too much free time on your hands but, you just need to find a way! Do some more SEO work, add more content and add it often, or, if you think this is a dead end, sell the website.
