What makes people buy online? (impulse buy wise)

I wanted to see what a lot of you have to say about this question. Offline like where I'm making most of my income is by focusing on emotion, but online sales is something I feel I'm going to struggle with when I finally release my ebook/ecourse. So what do you feel makes people buy online (impulse buy)?

The same thing as offline. They see something and say "I need that".

Why.. Depends on the product. Customers buy things that solve their problems. An add-on or up-sell product could solve their problems quicker or easier, for example.

IMO, the more desperate a buyer is the higher likelihood they'll make an impulse purchase.

As far as impulse buys go online, limited time discounts go a long way, or if it's limited to only a select first few purchasers. Give your audience an incentive and you'll increase your amount of impulse buys, especially if you have a quality, interesting product.

The psychology of buying is the same. The only thing that's changes online is the promotional medium.

A lot of factors. Primarily: the testimonials.

Think about it yourself. Let's say you want to buy a new laptop. Further, let's say you decide to head over to Amazon. Do you purchase a relatively high-ticket item like a laptop without reading the reviews? Would you say they influence your decision in a dramatic way? I know I rarely make a high-ticket purchase decision without confirmation from "the crowd" that the product is worth my money.

    Second to testimonials? A deal.

People are now great assessors of value. I was watching a news item a few months back where people in offline retail situations will whip out their smart phone and compare prices both online and offline. It's become quite easy nowadays to know whether you're getting good value for money.

Of course the two reasons above are really not new. They've been around since people began buying and selling.

Usually it's finding a product that fills a specific gap that others haven't considered

Think solutions... People buy for help and to get advice. Just don't look into in too much! Always think of solutions for the buyer and always give massive value and you will be fine. :-)
