Driving Traffic to Amazon Affiliate Sites?

by azhaze

I have added about 5000 words of 100% unique content in the form of reviews, top 10 lists, and general content. I am promoting these articles/reviews on various sites, and promoting the site in general, but i am just not getting any traffic.

Do I just need to let it sit for a while? The site is only about 1-2 weeks old.

Do I need to pick out specific keywords and start some SEO and backlinking?

I'm sure you will hear other opinions, but SEO is not so easy anymore, especially for a site that is not already well established. Drive traffic through social, and make sure you engage real people. As more people visit your site that are "real", Google will take notice too.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

SEO is almost a lost cause. Very unpredictable. I'm sure the SEO heads will come in hear and tell you what you should do but even the most experienced SEO head couldn't tell you. SEO is like a waiting/guessing game. Google holds all of the cards, so you have to kind of wait and see what they're going to do.

Really, so why are you still using google, did you know there are many other search engines without the advanced algorithms google have...

SEO is not dead, they are simply reshuffling thats all... here is what you should do, if your using worpress get yourself nextscripts for social media automation follow instructions and sign up to all sites allowed with the free version.

As you said you have content you need to also add rss and get this on feedburner, I know many say this is not useful anymore but currently a backlink is a backlink, make a slideshow/video of each product article upload those to your site (nextscripts will automate syndication) however you will need to do a couple handsfree and the more you do the better, always source back to the original content as syndication is the way forward, think news sites and always remember great customer service provides faster traffic

Have you heard the rumour google may be changing its algorithm so as to search for relavant FACTS....... to find out more you know what to do.

  • SEO is one option,

    Another is 'Content Distribution'

    1) Turn articles into videos, and podcasts and link to your website
    2) Email your list
    3) Social Bookmarking
    4) Social Media Sharing
    5) And more

I have to agree that SEO is extremely difficult unless you have a lot of experience with it. You can wait months of putting in work and adding the right keywords and content. Maybe your site begins to start ranking or maybe by that point Google has changed their algorithms. I would suggest social marketing all depending on what niche you are trying to sell in.

Forums related to your niche and general places where people hang out online would be a great way to find potential customers. Facebook groups and pages. Join and start interacting, again all depends on your niche and exactly what you are trying to sell to select a method most beneficial to your particular case.

    1. IMHO anyone saying SEO is dead, etc., is saying that based on their experience and their personal lack of success. I wouldn't say that, and for a huge number of Amazon products SEO is the name of the game.

You're not going to get traffic and buyers for the Acme toaster by pinning a picture of it on Pinterest, making a video of it on YouTube, or hyping a few posts about it on Twitter or Facebook.

Good luck with a squeeze page to email someone a special report about the toaster. All the visitor wants is a good review and advice to help them make a buying decision - right now.

    2. It is wayyyy to early to evaluate the site for traffic. It is only a week or so old.

Like the pp said, a week or two is way too early to expect traffic to start coming. Even if you do manage to get some traffic, you need to make sure that you have enough interesting content for them to stay there, or keep coming back.

My advice, keep adding (valuable) content to your site, keep doing social marketing, keep posting to related forums, and you will soon see some sales. Good Luck!

Take a stab at video marketing and start uploading some videos on YouTube. Make sure you link to your website in the description of your video. That will give you a free high PR backlink, plus you will get your affiliate link in front of more people.

I agree with Edwin, Youtube works. I have captured 1st page results for many local brands using video marketing. They are still there 1-2 years later.

Two of my videos are in #2 and #3 on the SERPs for:

      CityKW + kitchen remodeling

These are ABOVE the maps pack.

Ensure your title and descriptions are on point and use the right keywords for your campaign - this is easy to do unless your English sucks, which in this case I would outsource the videos.

Finally, I would also use social media. Share your links, get friends and family to do the same 1-2 x per week and in no time you'll have high PR links pointed at your site.

      good luck

      YR

For both questions the answer is Yes
You have to pick a keyword that has good volume of searches for the mains site and later pick keywords for some products to sell more.
Time will take but results will give forever. Once you sold a product will be on your way.

SEO is way to risky and unpredictable Tust me I know.

My income went from 17K a month on Amazon to 2k over night after the Penguin and panda updates hit.

There I learned to never depend on one source of traffic.

I have since rebuilt my amazon business with paid traffic. PPC from Adwords and Bing with some Facebook ads as well to build my lists.

That's the best way to stay diversified and scale, Now SEO traffic is just a bonus to me.

    Cheers

      Agreed.

I've found that there are always new ways to rank on Google, and there are things I can do that can help me stay ranked up there for a very long time. However, you never want to rely on something that can change in an instant.

A lot of the traffic I use can come from all kinds of other sources. I always tell people to diversify and using different sources at the same time, so if one thing disappears or one site decides to close their site, then you've lost everything.

Let's take Facebook. If you were to use Facebook as your primary source of traffic, the site could change its rules on advertising or even close it down at any moment, but of course, that's very unlikely to ever happen.

But I will say that the words really do ring true when people say, "don't put your eggs in one basket."

I've been around too long to depend on SEO. I remember all the people who were hurt when duplicate content stopped being listed (no one was ever penalized for it) I do the right tags, keywords etc, but I write for my clients and future clients not search engines.

I post a title, description and link on social medias. send to the forum list and remember my new motto is just do it when I think about writing an article.

That's a much better strategy for long term stable traffic from the serps.

After only 1-2 weeks, I'd say you should worry too much about it right now. You shouldn't just let it sit, keep writing and, in time, your website will get indexed and traffic will begin to grow.
Also, share your articles on social media, create a fan page, use Twitter, google+, don't rely solely on Google traffic.

I would focus as the other have said and driver traffic through SOCIAL MEDIA, great place to start would be pinterest...

Google loves PINTERST and often see pintrest in top ten results in google for a few thousand word keywords....
