The number one thing for me is creating an outline first. It is my foundation and my blueprint for where I want to go in my writing thought process.

You wouldn't take a trip without a roadmap - so don't write an ebook without an outline of where you want your writing to go!

Mary's advice is great: do the outline first. You should also check the Createspace site. They are the print arm of Amazon Kindle. If you make your material compliant with Createspace, then you can sell printed versions of your ebook without any extra work, or cost.

To write ebook, it is necessary to be creative. Dealing with image, have plan, even in microsoft word you can make your ecover like professional. Go to slideshare and type : 'how to write an ebook ? ' Get inspired by checking other ebook.

Do not make your ebook cover in Word. Use a real designer and get it done properly. Lots of inexpensive and moderately-priced options out there.

You can just open a Word document and start writing, then save it as a PDF and upload it to your website, create a link, and offer it.

I strongly recommend you learn how to structure and deliver content first. If you don't communicate the right information, meaning what they are specifically looking for when they land on your website, you won't connect with your readers, which means they'll quickly lose interest and go elsewhere.

If you want to just jump in and write an ebook it's probably not going to be very good, and as a result not sell very well. With all the people writing eBooks today, you need really high quality, well-written content to stand out.

Be more specific. What are you wanting to know, and what's bothering you specifically designing/writing an eBook?

The best thing to do (in my opinion) ...

    1) Write your book in your favorite text writer, add the elements you want, like bold, italics, underlines, .. headers etc.. get the whole book completed there.

1a) Then open up your favorite HTML Editor and "recode" everything .. using the appropriate tags because Kindle will translate it much better from HTML than it will from a PDF or a DOC file.

2)OR You can always take your text / doc file and find someone on Fiverr who will translate it to the proper formats for you from your finished product.

  • Write a lot, and then 'edit'

To create a quality ebook, write 200 pages & edit down to the best 50

And be in flow, be consistent and 'You can do it'

Use Open Office...it's free and easy

Then search for a free online ebook cover creator.

    Cheers!

The first step for me is Open Office Writer, but for you the next step would depend upon what type of ebook you intend on publishing whether it be a Kindle book or a PDF.

Have the content created first in Word or any open source software, then research on the format later. There are tons of PDF software in the market place which can assist you with just that.
