Where do you send your traffic?

Is it better to send your traffic to an opt-in page (squeeze page) or to a blog (which has an opt-in box on the side of the page)? Or does it depend on the traffic source?

First I was thinking that you would just send any kind of paid traffic to an opt-in page (squeeze page), and any kind of free traffic to you blog (with opt-in box).

But, then I started to wonder if you would get more people subscribing to your list with an opt-in page than from an opt-in box on your blog. I would think that with your blog people might get side tracked by your blog posts and that could reduce the number of people that subscribe. But with an opt-in page there's no distractions - it's all about the "free gift" that they're going to get when they subscribe. And that could increase the number of people that subscribe.

But, I don't know, I'm a newbie, so I wanted to ask which is better since I'm sure other people have already tested this.

optin with nothing else on it unless you install a plugin which pops up a sign up page before the person can enter your blog (most give an option to close it without signing up) however many will sign up if you make your copy writing on the pop up good. (enticing)

I didn't even think about a pop up sign up page. Anybody tested those to see which ones perform better - the enter pop up or the exit pop ups?

I'm think that it would depend on the traffic source as to whether you would send them to your blog or a squeeze page. Like what about facebook traffic, twitter traffic, youtube traffic, forum traffic, blog commenting, guest blogging, solo ads? How do you know when to send them to your blog as opposed to a squeeze page?

it doesnt matter if you are sending social traffic imho. you should send targeted traffic but those two ways are equal use one or the other which ever is easier for you.

It all depends on what you are trying to accomplish.

With a simple squeeze page, you're going to get more optins. However, I doubt the subscribers you get using this method are going to be as responsive to your emails as if you were to collect them from visitors who have seen your valuable website.

Oftentimes, a visitor who has opted in on your main website will become a repeat visitor and the more you can impress that visitor with your content, the better chance you have to eventually sell something to that customer.

On the other hand, someone who opts in on a squeeze page oftentimes knows you only as the person whose squeeze page captured their email, and it's a lot harder to build trust unless you provided them with a super duper valuable free gift when they opted in!

I use combination of both to maximize optins and to help build a responsive list. In my opinion, no business should be without a squeeze page unless they get over a thousand visitors a day to their website, in which case, pop-up optins and lightbox optins work very well.

Why do not split test both of them, and choose better way?

I figured I could save myself the trouble by asking other people who have already split tested it.

Squeeze page all things being equal.

I had good results from a blog back in the day with a call to action type of opt in based within articles so you can gather sign ups that way - these were great quality leads.

Keep the user experience in mind as you test through it.

That primarily depends on the source of traffic. If your traffic comes from Paid source like PPC, Facebook ads or solo ads, then your best option will be sending your traffic to your opt-in page directly ( simple squeeze page with clear headline and strong call to action).

However sometimes paid traffic do working well with your own authority blog in case you target profitable buying keywords and instead you expect to get more subscribers, you will likely get more sales according to your blog ads.

I'm a blogger at heart but honestly the last couple of years having an effective Squeeze Page has been the best route for me. You get straight to the point and get people in your Funnel where you can build relationships thru your Emails

If you are getting organic traffic to your blog put up an optin form there so your readers can sign up. If you are using only paid traffic its always better to send the traffic to a squeeze page over a blog.

My first priority is to make sure my visitors opt in.

I prefer to send them to a squeeze page rather than a blog with opt in box at the side.

Because sometimes they might be busy reading my blogpost and overlooked the opt in box at the side.

    Hope it helps

Yes. Sending paid traffic to anything but a squeeze page is a mistake.

I figured I could save myself the trouble by asking other people who have already split tested it.
That's assuming they have a clue what they are talking about, and have an identical set-up to yours. The only way to know if something works for your specific circumstances is to test it yourself, no matter what anyone else says.

Also focus on building your list from Day 1. Study your niche, create something of value and from there provide solutions to your list and will create an asset. Remember the money is in your relationship with your list and it is not always a matter of how big your list is. Treat your list well and become the person that can help them and they will buy from you. Use your blog or social media site or whatever other site to help build your list. Never send paid traffic to a blog because all that will do is end up costing you money and most visitors will end up never returning.

Squeeze page if you choose to use one. Easy way to build your email list to follow up on
