Blog commenting value

Can someone tell me the value and blog commenting. I know I used to hear a lot about it years ago. However lately I haven't heard too much about it. I just wanted to see if there is any value and blog, and also if there a software program that makes the commenting easier. Thank you

These days blog comments are often a heavily abused form of link spam, considered to by part of a link scheme and are generally a Blackhat SEO method.

There are program like Scrapebox, GSA and Xrumer built specifically to spam blogs with blog comments and build these links automatically.

To combat these spamming programs Google built the famous anti-spam algorithm like Google Penguin, Panda, that effectively killed most of the widespread industrial link spamming market.

Even though we can still manage to get some SEO value out of blog comments when they are done right.

The best way to build links by using blog comments the trick is to not do it in mass.

Don’t use automation of any sort and don’t outsource it to some low wage worker that will essentially create spam across the web. Spamming blog comments won’t help.

Do manual and relevant discussion. That's the key.

It's still valuable. But you need to leave useful and meaningful comments, preferably on relevant blogs.

Blog commenting still works. You just have to do it the right way. Find blogs in your particular niche. To be most effective, you need to like find some of the leaders of your niche - should also be following these people and be on their e-mail lists. Find blog post(s) that speak to you, and make relevant comments that pertain to the discussion had. Use your actual name is the "name" field. Don't put your url in any place other than the "website" space. Bloggers like to approve real comments because it shows interaction. Nowadays, blogs are like little communities.

Blog commenting is still an effective way of driving visitors to your site (preferably landing page)

Make sure site is high traffic and relevant to your niche and has a good alexa rank.

From there make sure you read the actual article be helpful.

Blogs are heavily moderated these days and there are a lot of spammers.

A good tip for blog commenting is to sign up through google alerts.

From there you can get emailed topics related to your niche that you can comment on.

Blog commenting is incredibly valuable, but moreso of a networking tool than a traffic generation source on its own (although it can still generate a good amount of traffic as well.)

You'll want to leave valuable, multi-paragraph comments on relevant blogs that show you actually read the article and care about its comments.

After doing this for a while consistently on the same blogs, the blogger will know a bit about you and you can escalate to email and network with them. Networking is what brings you the real traffic and if you're after links, networking will get you the natural, high-quality backlinks Google loves.

I'm with James, Ryan and Glenn. Blog commenting is very valuable. When commenting on someone's blog, make sure you read it... Always address the writer and give the most valuable feedback you can. A few paragraphs with your honest input will do the trick. It is also about consistency. When someone sees you on an authority blog giving value, they will start to recognize you, thereby coming to your blog. I can honestly say I do get a lot of followers that way.

It can be valuable if you consider a blog to be like a forum. Forum marketing is one of the best way to gain authority in yur niche, so blog commenting can have the same effect.

Just make a alist of the top 10 blogs in your niche, subscribe to their email list and post a valuable comment every time added a new post to the blog and you'll definately reap te rewards in the long run.

    Hi Frank,

My finger is sore from thanking all of these folks up to lol

I was endorsed 3 times by a NY Times Best Selling Author through blogging commenting.

I spoke at NYU through blog commenting. I'm not a foreign dignitary Just a little old blogger, blogging from paradise. What a life eh lol.....

I received an endorsement from an ambassador for the Oprah Winfrey network from blog commenting.

It's all how you do it.

I comment to build bonds with authority bloggers. I comment to make friendships. I comment to add value, and to make an impact.

Like any marketing strategy you can abuse it or use it to add value, to help others. I went with the latter and my endorsements, my features and my overall blogging success is directly attributable to blog commenting.

    Keep on commenting guys!

AND let's keep this thread humming I am too much of a blog commenting fan

Here's the thing about blog commenting; if the focus is for traffic or backlinks, it's not going to work as good. Blog commenting is effective only when you communicate and provide value as well in the comment you're posting. One liner comments will not work. Comments from the heart and mind easily stick out and when you stick out, people look at you and will want to find out more about you.

Blog commenting has always worked for me. Through sharing what I think and believe with the blog owner, I not only create relationships, but I get high quality visits from that as well. Here's another powerful thing about it, if you frequently comment valuable insights, the blog owners will not hesitate to reference your content or your blog on their blog because they know that you're a person of value.

Whenever you're creating something be it a video, blog post or even a comment, always have value in mind because that's how you stick out and become attractive.

    Hey Frank,
Well, here is the scoop on blog commenting. For just purely backlinking purposes it has been abused and taken advantage of to a degree where it is not useful anymore.

But if you really take the time to contribute in a high quality manner, blog commenting can give you good, direct traffic that can really help you build a following

All I know is that most blogs these days will not allow any new comments because they know that most of these posts are spam.

I know of some bloggers who allow people to post comments but each post is moderated.

There have been some excellent points made here already, but just to add my comments into the mix based on my own experience: yes there's huge value in blogging and commenting. In fact, this is what I currently do the most and, to be honest, I have done very little else by comparison.

The knock-on effect from blog commenting (done correctly) is that it can bring (notice I said "bring" and not "drive") ultra laser-targeted traffic. To reiterate what has already been mentioned, if you approach it with the mindset of driving traffic, back-linking, etc., then it won't be as effective and it can also lead to disappointment if you don't get the results you want. But when you always seek to give value in what you post on your own blog and what you post on others blogs, make connections with other bloggers, engage them in conversation, share their content, reply to comments, answer questions, offer help - basically always putting other people first - that's when you find that the nice results find their way to you.

All my best connections, best subscribers and biggest commissions have come as a direct result of my blogging and commenting on other blogs. The key is, HOW you do it. Forget automation software. You need to get down and dirty, get stuck in and put in the hard graft. That's not what some want to hear and, frankly, they are not willing to do it, which is why they fail and claim that blogging and blog commenting 'don't work'.

If you want eyeballs on the content or offers on your blog then you need people on your blog. Some go down the SEO route and if that works for them, kudos to them. Personally I don't 'do' SEO. I bear it in mind but it isn't something I stress over. Instead of 'driving' traffic I'm all about BRINGING it. So if you want people on your blog, bring them - get out there and make yourself known. Get yourself noticed. Give people a reason to want to visit your blog, check out your content, engage with you and keep coming back for more. Give them a reason to trust you enough to click on a link you mention or a banner you have in your sidebar. Give them a reason to feel compelled to enter their details and hit that "subscribe" button.

Having said all that, just like anything blogging isn't for everyone. But yes it works and yes, done correctly, it has immense value.

If you contribute valuable creative insights, thought-provoking logical commentaries and engaging opinionated perspectives in heavily trafficked blogs about topics that you have significant expertise in, and ...

If you actively participate and initiate discussions in these blogs ...

    Then:

You could get a positive response from the owners / admins of those blogs when you contact them for possible mutually beneficial collaboration oppurtunities, guest posting arrangements, content syndication deals, ad placement arrangements and strategic affiliate partnership agreements ...

    Because ...

You'd most likely be a familiar name to them by the time you contact them due to your active participation in their blogs ...

it is still VERY relevant! But only if you write the comments yourself, using a software to post automated comments will only get you send to spam, it will do you no good.

Just like any tool, it's only as effective as the person who is using it. That being said, in the right hands, blog commenting can be extremely valuable. Just need to make sure what you say is relevant and adds value to the blog. On the other hand, if you are using some kind of spamming tool, then it's just about worthless.

Blog Commenting is still profitable, the challenge is to find high page rank blogs that are not spammed to death. It is best to set up your own Blog networks so you have control over your own destiny.
