Hi,
i have a website based on wordpress that i mainly use as a diary for keeping tract of some programming/sysadmin solutions that I found useful.

I was wondering if there is anything that i can do for making this "diary" in a website that get some traffic and maybe get some cash for paying the hosting costs.

Does anybody had the same problem? What did you do? I guess the best monetisation is with adsense but your opinion is welcome!

How much traffic do you get to your site now? Sounds like you may have enough material from your diary to create a product (course, ebook etc), if so you could compile your diary entries,re- structure the content properly and create a product that you could sell. If you are getting traffic to your site now then you could add an optin form and build a list of subscribers then upsell them with your product. if not you might need to drive traffic to a squeeze page, build list and then upsell them. Hope that helps.

That's how Pat Flynn got started. He was keeping an online journal of his architectural license studies, and then one day decided to monetize it. It all took off from there...

something like 100 articles, the traffic is not a lot: 1-2k per month.
There are just ugly notes no sexy images or nice copywriting. Also the topics are quite sparse and is not easy (i.e without putting some effort) to wrap everything in an ebook.

I recently add a twitter account and a Facebook page but i really never did any real action for having any visitor.

@san2hnl thx for the kind words but they are just quick an ugly notes

I agree with Jamilof, you may have enough material from your everyday experiences to build a product of your own and tell people how you got their with daily post to your blog. Let people know the good and bad of your experiences.. I think this will get you more readers to your site both new and repeat.

That could work. Create a few good informational site target keywords and monetize with adsense.
