Took me around 1 year before making money.

      ^ What Odahh said.

You have to be persistent and observant to have success with a business online (which is what IM is: an online business).

So i definitely recommend getting some sort of steady income sorted through a job. If you still have the fire and motivation kicking in you to keep going with IM, then keep going with that. But if you find your path with a job, perhaps it turns into a career or whatever, then go that direction.

There is no shame in going the job route if that's what suits you. It takes a very special type of person to make for any business, whether online or not, so you're going to need to follow a lot of gut feeling types of situations to create your own path. Just because one job doesn't work out doesn't mean jumping in with a business is ideal, because that might just mean you've just selected the wrong job.

I mention the "gut" feeling thing because it may not feel logical or rational to start a business. Sometimes you just feel frustrated with every job you've ever had and the only path seems to be to start a business, but that doesn't mean that you should. After you have a steady income and it "feels right" to follow IM, I say go for it.

If you are serious about internet marketing you can't expect you will earn a ton of money in only 4 months. You need to learn a lot before you can start earning some serious money.

This forum is a great place for the learning process. Stick with it, follow the most popular marketers, join their mailing list, watch their live webinars and absorb knowledge.

There is no shortcut. At least I don't know where is .

    Best Regards

Dustinlopex no one can tell you what to do. Its your choice. You are responsible for choices you make now, which will affect your future. 4 months is not a long time in this business. Keep learning and take massive consistent action. You will fail but hopefully you will learn from your failures and fail less in the future. This forum is filled with many ways to make $$. Find a system that works and model your business in the same way. Best of luck.

    Why not do both?

I've been doing side projects, consulting and more for a few years now while holding down a demanding job.

I'm even able to make time for family.

I separate my weekdays to be 12 hours for my job (I'm moving to remote work which will cut 2 hours out my 2 hours of commuting), 2 hours for side projects and 2 hours with my family.

My weekends are split up to dedicate 4 hours on Saturday and 4 hours on Sunday to my side projects and the rest is all family time.

I make use of VAs to handle all the tedious stuff so that when I have time I jump right into the stuff that needs more thinking. I didn't end up going through the hassle of filtering on oDesk, so I do pay $15/hour for Brickworks VAs. Ideally I am going to move that to a $6 - 9/hour guy later on when I decided to dedicate a weekend to hiring and filtering.

4 months is not a very long time in terms of IM. It took a little over a year to finally see actual profit from doing IM. The first year was a trial and error phase, you do things, commit mistakes and learn from it, test out another strategy and apply what you learn.

Like what Odahh said, you can have a part-time job to help pay your bills and projects while doing IM.

Took me six months to start making up to $400 per month and I later scaled it up big time. You just have to put in some serious work and learning into this.

My best advice, keep working at your current job. Then use your income to find your current online business because just like in any business, online business requires invesent of both time and money.

One size does not fit all. It would not be fair to you to ask you to keep at it, but in the same breath it would not be fair to say give up.

You in the world of business or work so you can have cash to pay for things, right?

So the important thing is, what do you need now today? of you need to put food on the table, pay the rent, etc. go out and get a job.

Once you got a job, start learning and applying. Learn something new every day, but more importantly take action every day. Plan ahead and plan well even if it is in your head.

Dustinlopex too early to give up. We took long long time before success. What is it that you are doing online? if ever you take online marketing as just a by the way you will make no good money. Online Marketing is a fully fledged business where you have to input capital, attract customers, advertise, sale either products or skills and be successful. If you look at those successful companies you must have noticed that the first 1 or 2 years they ran on losses and then picked up. same way You have to test, optimize split test until you break through.

I will tell you a short story of a 6 figure marketing Guru and his student.

One day a student went to his Guru and said to him "I want to learn to be a successful 6 figure marketer' So the guru told him to meet him at 5.am on the beach. At the beach the Guru told the student to go in water. Student said "I want to learn online marketing not swimming" Guru told him to follow instructions which the student did. The guru kept on telling him to go deep in water and finally pushed his head in water for a few second and then removed the head. He then asked him when you were inside there what did you want, the student replied " The only thing I wanted is Air, Breathing space" So the guru told him the day you will want Success as badly as you wanted air today, you will be successful.

    End Story.

Hope this helped you and many others.

If you're not making money right now, then it's a good idea to start looking for a 9 to 5 job. The idea isn't to give up on your plan to make money online, but you do need to eat and pay rent in the meantime, right?
So, get a job if you can find one quickly, come from from the job and work on your online projects. It'll be difficult, but it could also be worth it!

I would always have a backup. If you can truly afford it keep on pursuing IM.

But for most people it is prudent to work a stable job while pursuing IM on the side

Keep trying until you do make some money.

All you have to do is to find someone who is really successful and investigate to see what they are doing on a daily basis to create that great success. It is a lot easier then you think. You just have to see what they are doing and then do it yourself on a smaller scale to test the water and to get a hold of it.

Continue with your internet marketing however if you are really struggling and still spinning your wheels my recommendation would be to first find a job and continue to work online in between, keep your eyes on the prize.

If you ask me, internet marketing is far better than having a job. You get time freedom and mobility once you make it happen. Not to mention you also get income. A lot of it if you've mastered the proper skills.

If things aren't working out, it means that what you need is education. Invest in a training course and learn a skill. If you're struggling with traffic generation for example, then dig deep and absorb whatever you can about traffic generation.

I'll tell you now once an internet business explodes and is extremely profitable, it's like heaven on earth. You'll never need to worry about your finances, paying your bills late or missing parties or events because of your financial independence and mobility.

You get to live your dream and your life the way you want to. Who wouldn't want that? Getting a job may be your safe bet but making an online business work is the safest best out there for your long term future. Why do I say so? Because once an online business explodes, the person behind it explodes as well. Newbies don't build successful businesses, it's people who have invested in themselves and mastered certain skills to the point where their greatest asses is themselves. This is why successful people make it look so easy to create and attract more success.

Just keep at it. It may be tough but keep going. Find your inspiration because that's what's going to feed and push you to move forward. Have a mentor and just enjoy the journey.

I was good at technology since I was 8.. good at business since I was 8.. wanted to be a programmer.. . . since I was 8. Not sure how old you are but chances are that if your pumping gas for a living and your 35 that you might move up to driving a cab by 45. Either get really serious about what your doing is just take the job and be content in life living as the 99%.

You did not make good money means you're doing something wrong. See if you have chosen a lucrative niche, if you have done the right monetization, if you are driving the right traffic to yout blog, if you have the right content fit for your targeted audience. Either one is wrong, otherwise you would have mafe money.

If you have really a good business, you should do that. Beside the business, you can continue the IM. Of course the IM also a good business. There is no fixed return in the IM section. Thanks.

I been in and out this industry for the past 10 years.. i made negative ROI if you consider all the investment i have made so far.. but this year.. i decided to take a leap of faith and quit my full time work to start on building my business full time..

Yes, many of the IMers start on part time effort but to me, I treat this as a real business, shouldn't I be giving full time effort then. What worst can happen be I fail? At least I tried..

4 months for you is short.. if you are looking for the magic silver bullets.. stop wasting your time.. internet marketing is a real business requiring real full time effort to build..

    Good luck!

I never think that something like this should be an ''either/or'' type of question. If you are not making money online yet, then by all means find a job BUT keep going with your online dream. Dedicate time to finding something that works for you. At least if you have a job, you have an income while trying to build your dream of working online. Whatever you choose to do, I wish you good luck.

Get a job, make a decent living with it and try to do IM on a side.

I don't understand where people get this stupid idea of thinking if they quit everything and start doing IM full time, they will become millionaires overnight?

At least with a job you know you'll be paid X amount of money at the end of every month, but with an online business, especially when you have no idea what you're doing, you could have $0 for 6 months....How do you plan on living on that?

    Good luck mate.
