What is best way to find actual search phrases that people use to find info? Free is best, but if something has a cost and works well, let me know.

Just use the Google keyword planner. The results are directly from Google. You also have to keep in mind, though, that keyword tools are just supposed to be used as a guideline.

I have and use Market Samurai. It gets its results from Google's Keyword Planner but with this tool you can do a lot of sorting of the data. Saves you a lot of time and effort.

There is a free version and a paid version.

  The Keyword Planner does not list many actual search phrases, and any tool relying on Google is just as defective. If that is all you are relying on for keyword research then you are missing a lot of keywords. Even more important that Google search terms are buyers terms and those which lead to conversions.

By far, the best and most accurate free tool. Google Keyword planner https://adwords.google.com/KeywordPlanner

You can search for your general keyword and ad group idea and get a list of search phrases related to that keyword and the estimated number of times the search phrases are used.

You may miss out on exact match searches if you rely on the keyword planner. Get all the suggested keywords to Market Samurai, and refine your search.
