Why You Haven't "Made It Yet" in Internet Marketing

I just wanted to share a quick piece of advice that would probably help a lot of people out.

I’ve been here for a little over a month now and once people started to realize that I’ve had legitimate success, a lot of folks have started messaging me for personal advice. And when I told each of them that I’m already running close to capacity and not looking for any work, dozens of people have made the exact same comment-

“Well, I appreciate you because you’re one of the few here that gives out legitimate advice.”

And trust me, I get where all of you are coming from with this attitude. At the same time, however, I see lots of people giving fantastic advice on here every day. The problem is that it gets lost in the shuffle because there’s so many threads entitled “Noob Help” that simply asks, “How can I become successful in IM?”

The sad thing is, so many folks here try to help that person with specific advice and detailed guidelines, but that’s not what those posters need. In fact, I can answer 90% of all the questions on the first page of the main forum with one sentence- “You have to get off your butt and go to work.”

To be a successful Internet Marketer, you have to know your craft inside and out…there’s no getting around that. If you know nothing though and you’re too lazy to do any independent research, then you’ll have no idea when awesome advice is staring you right in the face. There are THOUSANDS of completely free courses out there on reputable websites, but a lot of you want to be spoon fed the knowledge instead of actually making any effort.

And guess what? That’s literally the definition of failure. You have a lack of success from not taking action.

Here’s my advice- if you want someone who’s already made it in Internet Marketing to help you, start by respecting them enough to do your homework, ask very specific questions and be ready to take action once you get the answer.

Because if you’re not willing to do that, then the people giving you advice are not helping; they are enabling you to sit there and be a failure. So I’ll say it once again- get off your butt and go to work.

That’s really the only specific advice you need.

    Hi KK,

The advice is here. Then get to working. Awesome point, inspiring post. I'd say that mindset makes the difference. Fear, panic and worry, and anxiety and doubt, and anger, or who the heck knows what else, all these energies kill the most well meaning IMers. They have the tools, the advice, but don't know how to use them so they don't work, or quit after a day, or a week, blaming the tools, and not the craftsman for their woes.

You need to know WHY you want to prosper online. Then tie that reason to some form of being free. Here's the tipping point; once your love of being free becomes greater than your fear of doing uncomfortable stuff you'll get it. You'll see success. You'll uncover the secret used by folks who move into successful action, regularly. I gotta say; I didn't know what a blog was 8 years ago. Yet here I am. Blogging from Paradise, living in Bali for 6 months, prospering online. You and I have had success kk because we acted from a smart place. Sure we failed, and mucked things up, but we kept at it. We tried. We persisted. Then we listened to successful advice and acted on it regularly because our love of being free trumped our fear of doing uncomfortable things, and here we are.

Happy to hear you're rocking it out

    Signing off from Bali.

I'm a family man and my wife loves her job, but I'm literally counting down the years till my kids are off to college and I can do the exact same thing. We're in an awesome school system though so my days as a world traveler are still a little ways off.

But man...Bali for six months. I'm jealous.

Based upon my experience and observations, there seems to be a gross underestimation of the effort required to start a business online.

So, some may be quite shocked when you indicate that work is actually required.

"Wait, you mean I can't just sit around sipping umbrella drinks?!?!?"

And, based on my experience and observations -- There seems to be a more realistic estimation of the effort required to start and run and grow a brick and mortar company, either a local business, or a global company ...

Well, I think that's probably because:

=>> I haven't seen $7 or so digital info products, $27 or so blueprints and $500 /month or so coaching sessions for starting and running and growing a brick and mortar company; and

=>> I haven't seen a forum about starting a brick and mortar company that's plastered with screaming ads like "Build and Run A Brick and Mortar Business While You Sleep", thread titles like "How to Earn $400K in One Year", and members who go around announcing how quick and easy and simple it is to do these things by just taking action, thinking positive, and following step-by-step guides that they've read or heard or seen but haven't even tried ...

I don't mind putting my hand and admitting that I was one of those people who approached KK and asked for his help.

I am by no means a newbie. Since January 2013 to date, my products have generated over $100,000. However my income is going down quickly ....Just over $73,000 the first year. It dropped to $35,000 in 2015 and I am quite frankly worried about this year unless I change things fast (those figures can be proven).

There are a lot of helpful people on this forum but I also saw that some of the seasoned veteran Warriors are starting to get tired and irritable with newbies and people asking the same old questions. (I CAN understand why in some cases).

Then I came across some posts from KK. He was patient and was giving genuine, well thought out advice and informative advice.

He didn't have an agenda and had nothing to sell or signature file to promote.

His posts shone like a beacon.... and even more so when some experienced Warriors started to try and discredit him and put him in his place (when I checked the other posts by these people they seem tired with IM and don't offer any advice...they just make sarcastic comments and offered virtually nothing of substance or value). In contrast, KK's replies were articulate and more than proved his credentials.

Saying that, as KK says, Newbies can do more to help themselves and be more specific in their questions. IM is NOT easy. It requires hard work and dedication. Some of that hard work requires research.

I hope that KK continues to share his experience and expertise on this forum because he is a very valuable asset who offers genuine helpful advice.

The ones who are genuinely serious about their business will read, learn ....and most importantly apply his advice.

        They will go far

        Joe

Hopefully you realize that this post wasn't AT ALL about you in any way, shape or form.

You've taken action, built your infrastructure and started to struggle only recently...that's completely different from saying, "Give me the magic answer to change everything overnight." You already know how much hard work and effort it takes to succeed, and I'm sure you'll turn it around in time by working some more.

    Great post. Agreed!

Quick tip: Taking action doesn't just mean buying a product. It means actually IMPLEMENTING IT. This means trying and failing and EXPERIMENTING to get around difficulties.

That's what life is: a big puzzle and the fun is in going through the PROCESS of solving it instead of getting to the DESTINATION.

    Thanks again!

No, it's not "take the right action." Because when you're starting out, you have no idea what's right and what's wrong. If you continue to sit there and read forums until you find the perfect solution though, then you're going to do nothing for years. That's failure by definition.

But even if someone takes the absolute wrong action, they're going to learn about Internet Marketing and how it works. They are DOING something...and doing the wrong thing is so much more valuable than doing nothing.

For example, there are over ten million US residents with at least a million dollars of total net worth. Of those people, around to 71% started with nothing.
      • Of those who fall into the "self made" category, how many do you think made it by doing nothing? Zero.
      • How many do you think failed before succeeding? To some degree, all of them.
      • How many of them attribute critical thinking and independent research to their success? All of them.
Nobody says, "I got rich because someone showed me a secret and did all the work for me." They say they're successful because they worked hard and learned how to make money.

That's the message I was trying to get out there. Just start building your site. If you're successful, you learn. If you fail, you learn. It's a win/win either way.

I definitely agree with the sentiment. It's a waste of time answering threads where they're asking really general questions because even if you give these people some solid advice to point them in the right direction, they reply with "So how do I do that?" to every item on the list without researching themselves.

    They're just dreamers.

I once gave somebody a detailed review and advice on how to improve his YouTube channel and videos. A few weeks later, he started a thread complaining that his channel wasn't growing. Out of interest, I checked out his channel, and he hadn't made any of the changes that I had advised. Not a single one. A few weeks later he quit YouTube altogether. So yeah, lots of people say they want to learn, but they don't want to do any work.

In our online business we sell high-value information products. People pay us good money for them and then leave the files sitting on their hard drives. They never even look at them! They don't follow the carefully-worded tutorials about what to avoid and how to be simple in approach. They ignore our emails urging them to take action while the energy is there. And I'm talking about $1000 plus products - not front end offers for $20.

Some of them contact us weeks later asking why they haven't had any commission checks!

The fact is that if you want to have a successful online business, you already have all the products you need, because you will use what you have to overcome the immediate obstacles to success. And if you don't have the right product, you will identify what you need before you buy it.

Nobody needs to buy an auto responder or tracking software until they know what it's for. You don't buy a car and then decide to learn how to drive. The desire to drive makes you learn the skill beforehand.

This is a particular gripe of mine because I have done this myself and know how it feels. Every time I failed to use what I had bought, I felt worse because I had wasted more of my hard-earned cash. Stop doing it! It's sad and painful for everyone. It frustrates marketers and guarantees your failure. So decide what you want to do and then find the tools to do it. Don't buy expensive tools and then leave them in the garden shed.

      Rant over!

That's crazy, I feel your pain!. You'd think for that amount of money, people would be motivated to take action. I think sometimes it's because of laziness and other times people just can't concentrate on one thing long enough to see it through.

Great post. Lots of valuable and practical information.

I found in my own journey that one of the things that slowed me down was always learning and never applying. I would spend hours listening to webinars. I bought course after course and before I even finishing going through them I would be buying the next one until I was chock full of half baked knowledge. Things only changed when I made a conscious choice to implement one thing at a time and work on it until it starts flowing before implementing the next thing. I also imposed deadlines for myself and stuck to them.

Continuous learning is highly recommended, but within reason. You have to structure your day in such a way that the bulk of it is about activities that make you money such as posting your links on social media, writing articles or doing some kind of advertising. Take some time to listen to inspirational messages to encourage you and read books by motivational books. You'd be amazed at how much that will push you out of your comfort zone.

WOW! Talk about keeping it real! I totally love this post on so many different levels.

I love marketing and being an entrepreneur...it really changed my life and I can not imagine ever doing anything else.

But the sad truth is that marketers many times get in the way of marketers progress. We can be relentless sellers, promoters, and entertainers, and info dealers.

We as marketers have to stay focused or we will not survive. I confess in the past I have had days where I was online "working" all day into the night and I did for days at a time and when I look back I was not working at all! I was just reading! Its very addictive because there will always be something interesting and compelling and makes you feel that you need this in your business but what you are doing is not actually contributing to your business at all. It can be a vicious cycle.

A marketer can get to the end of a year and wonder where the hell the time went!

The actual deeds..the actual step we could have taken each and every day just is not as much fun and glorious as reading on success. But in retrospect we would wish we could get that time back to do the deeds that would have accumulated into a prosperous business instead of starting a New Year out with another pledge to "make it happen".

You have to help somebody and there are plenty that need it. Solve a problem. You do not have to bet destined to sell $7 ebooks or build a brick and mortar business...you can create a product or service that helps business owners. Sometimes that is the easiest money you will ever earn because a business is already accustomed to investing back into their business.

And this is a marketing forum right? Absolutely nothing wrong with the OP creating a valuable resource that people would be glad to purchase on top of the free contributions as well.

I really appreciate the OP creating this thread because sometimes we have to intentionally ignore the distractions.

To a person that has been online for awhile we can sometimes tell when a person is asking questions and when they are "forum marketing"..its all part of the game and hard to have one without the other.

But may the warrior forum always have someone like the OP who gives freely and can get a real unsolicited testimonial from a fellow warrior like that..I love it. That is what its all about here in my opinion.

Sure we can sell and heck some people including myself have made small fortunes here thru the years. But as long as we have guys like KK giving back and staying focused on what matters...sharing great information we all will win.
