Twitter flags my bit.ly link as unsafe??

I've used bit.ly on Twitter only once before, without registering a bit.ly account. Today I decided to use them for all my Twitter links, so I registered a bit.ly account. Then I took a brand new URL that's never been used before, created a bit.ly link from it, and used that link for the first time ever in Twitter, and haven't used it anywhere else yet. But for some reason Twitter flagged it as potentially unsafe. ????

The one & only other bit.ly link I used in Twitter months ago works perfectly, but this new one is potentially harmful. That makes no sense to me.

Anyone else ever have this problem, and how did you resolve it?

    May be, The link that you are promoting might have been flagged as spam by many people.

    Are you able to tweet the link as it is? Did you try goo.gl or other url shortners?

      Impossible for the link to have been reported by anyone as it's a brand new site that my partner created and put up just yesterday, and hasn't even been promoted yet. Today is the beginning of the campaign.

      I re-tweeted the link in a different format and it works fine. What confuses me is that Twitter themselves recommend we use bit.ly, so I didn't even try other services.

      The site in question is a capture page, simple as that.

    Yes, I've had this issue. But, I don't know what triggers some links to be unsafe. I guess the links that people have flagged many times or the links that might be potentially harmful will listed as unsafe. But, as you said, it's a new site and haven't shared and yet that link is considered as unsafe, that seems to be weird. Well, to keep it simple, I simply use two another URL shorteners goo.gl or ow.ly (only if that link shows as unsafe with bit.ly) and it works fine.


    P.S: Always test the shortened link before sharing.

    I would use other shorteners but Twitter says bit.ly is the recommended one for them. That's what I find weird, is how they flag the very links they recommend. I'll try a couple others and see how it goes.

      If you use SocialOomph, you can shorten your links inside of their program and everything should go through okay. I've not had any problems with that.

      It's amazing that Twitter would disallow anything, consider how much freaking porn shows up on my feed. I then have to unfollow those people because I don't want to see that stuff on my feed.

        This happened about 18 months ago when Twitter had a problem with automated tweeting by spammers.
        Just means Twitter is having a problem at the moment. Hootsuite posting was not working for me earlier this week.

        As has been said, try other shorteners, Goo.gl worked for me today when bitly did not.

        The problem will pass but be careful because continuous attempts to post something Twitter doesn't like may get your account suspended.

    Twitter can see through bit.ly, so they can see what full url is. Ditto for Facebook. Goo.gl flat out rejects number of affiliate links, including Mail Chimp one.

    There are lot of reasons why they are rejecting a link. It could be that domain was used at some point by some spammer, maybe before you acquired it, or there could be vulnerable plugin on site that you are not aware of.

    Facebook wouldn't allow the link, either. I couldn't even post the actual, unshortened link. Here's the error popup I get:

    You can't post this because it has a blocked link

    As far as previous spammers using the domain, or plugin issues, that's definitely not the case. And Mail Chimp isn't in the mix at all.

    It's the JVZoo connection, apparently.
