How do you keep your auto-responder from being spammed?

I'm starting to notice a disturbing trend w/ my autoresponder. I use Aweber, but I don't know if this trend is limited to their users or not.

Anyways what I'm noticing is that I'm getting an increased number of people that sign up to my list, and then when I broadcast a message to them, they have their own vacation - or autoresponder to email me back with their own spammy messages. So basically they are signing up to my list to spam me.

Is anyone else noticing this with their own list? And has anyone come up with a way to combat this? It could become expensive to maintain a list of people that you know will never see your messages.

I don't know how to stop it once they are on your list, other than to delete them from your list. Maybe you will hear from somebody else who can give you a better idea.

It sounds to me, that you are not targeting your subscribers "heavily" enough on the opt-in. Either you are giving an enticement which is not selective enough and therefore, attracting too many of the wrong people, or the people you are targeting are not a narrow enough group.

I have only ever had the problem myself, when I was using a co-registration service to generate leads for me.

I very rarely have that problem when a person subscribes due to one of my other marketing efforts. i.e. traffic to my opt-in page.

But I don't think it is a problem which is exclusive to Aweber.

Success is an endless series of falling down and getting back up again. Sometimes, you fall a little less. Sometimes, you fall a little more. Keep getting back up. Keep moving forward.

Actually, I'm just starting to notice this on one of my lists recently. This list is over a year old and has over 20k subscribers. But has only within the last few weeks started getting these spam subscribers. It's in a fairly focused niche.
