Affiliate Marketing: only 18 years old trying to start life the best way!

Hello Guys. This is my first post on Warrior. Thanks for opting in

For a week now, I've been watching hours of Affiliate Marketing footage.
I first came across a video from "High Traffic Academy" and I was convinced that I could start making a fortune and I had what it takes to start making profits fast.

My name is Omar, Im 18 years old and I live in New York. I currently have no job and I'm trying to figure out whether Affiliate Marketing is for me or not. I would love to make over $3,000 a month on my laptop and have the time to do things that interest me instead of flipping burgers in BurgerKing haha
I have pretty good computer skills and Im a very knowledgable person in many fields. I'm well aware of the nature of the business world, politics, psychology, technology and so much. I like to think that im a very intelligent person. Im also a very fast learner. My computer skills are way above average. But let's not get off topic.

* I currently have $130 to invest.
* I have a Clickbank account.
* I have hypertracker.
* Im thinking about getting Aweber.com to make landing pages and manage my Email list.
* I don't have a domain.

I heard that health & fitness is one of the most converting online niches. So I focused on a Clickbank weight loss product. It's called the '3 week diet' here's a link to their sales page
The 3 Week Diet - Official Website | Lose Weight In 3 Weeks | Program and Plan | The Best 3 Week Diet Book
how do you recommend I go about marketing and advertising this product?

Also, another question that I would like to ask you is If you were in my situation what steps would you take to reach to the level you are at right now?

I hope my post wasn't too long and I would appreciate your honest response, thankyou!

      Thanks for the help Adenan! I was focused on paid marketing, didn't think of that but it sounds promising. I'll look into it and try it out

    Avoid paid advertising for now, true, but expand beyond forums. There are dozens of ways to generate traffic from free platforms.

    Honestly start a blog Wordpress is free, get at least ten post uploaded then start to follow other blogs in the same niche post on social media FB twitter ect ect I've had great results from pinterest at times I'm getting 6-700 views a day free! Once you are getting leads & sales invest in paid adverts free is great of course but not scale able hope this helps

      I hope you meant to say get a domain name, hosting and install wordpress, and not start a blog on wordpress.com!

      Build yourself a website and focus on getting as much traffic as possible on it, build a relationship of trust between you - as the writer of the blog and your readers - the potential buyers. Invest in ads later, first focus on growing your website.

    Make a ton of YouTube videos reviewing the clickbank product, and include your link to your blog or just your affiliate link in the description.

      This will work but doing a ton of Youtube videos is too much in promoting just a single product.

      My suggestion is for you to create a product review and optimize it for the search engines.

      This never fails. As long as you have a high converting product and your review site is in the top search engine results pages, you will be able to get a lot of sales commissions.

      The best thing here is the free traffic that you never need to pay for with paid advertising!

      Good luck and welcome to affiliate marketing.

      Get to work and let's make money!

    Since you are doing affiliate marketing, i highly recommend you get a site up and running. Since you will be able to build a list and not just that, you will have a brand.

    I believe you will be doing this for long term. So try to get started the right way.

      Hello Omar,
      Welcome

      Just wondering if you have decided to further your formal Education or not ?

      You are 18 and if you do have that as an option I would suggest you go for that and maybe do this on the side.

      It is a good backup Plan to have

    I would suggest you to start a niche blog. Make sure you choose a good hosting provider. I use A small orange and its great. I have been blogging for 4-5 years now. Niche blogging is the way to go.

    A blog will help you get more sales. Make sure you try to build your subscribers list and for doing that you will need to give more value to your readers.Use ad banners effectively on your blog. One 300 x 250 banner on the side bar and 1 728 x 90 randomly between each article

    make your affiliate links look nice. Use "pretty link" plugin

    Promote you affiliate link with using good images. Your affiliate provider will give you resources to use but its better if you can hire a designer and get it done the right way. I design my own banners which I use in Facebook groups. It increases conversion rate for me.

    Do not directly promote your affiliate link. Promote your blog link instead. Its always better than direct promotion.

    Be active on twitter and help people out. Join one more forum, may be black hat forum or digital point.

    Youtube videos are a great way but only a killer video will help.

    If you need any help, you can always contact me.

    Good luck!

    I would have to 2nd Discrat, depending on your personality.

    There are those that just go all out and see what consequences occur later and those on the other extreme who plan and plan and never take action. So depending on your personality and your tolerance threshold (or your need for $ soon) somewhere in these extremes should also be a determinant in my opinion.

    From the tone of your post I'd say you are under the influence "make money online" info product hustlers or their affiliates. That won't be a problem if you treat it as entry level material though (ignoring the hyped profit potential). Take what you've learned and just hit the ground running. Nobody's first project is a success. Change gears as necessary.

    Being a successful affiliate here in 2015 is moreso a question of your content product skills and brand building unless you've got the cash and risk tolerance to pour into paid traffic. I think the best thing you can do right now is just forget about the money and focus entirely on traffic figures. Build something up and then monetize it afterwards.

    Hi Omar,

    As a young guy looking at carving out a career path, I don't think you can do better than sales and marketing. What makes dollars for others comes back to you in spades.

    Here's what I recommend:

    1. Look into the following topics on Amazon: copywriting, marketing systems, marketing consulting, joint ventures.

    2. Put what you've learned into practice. Try and fail on your first website. Take those lessons into the next one and the next one, over and over again until you succeed.

    3. Traffic generation is the other big piece of the pie. I'll let others comment on this as my background is in marketing.

    By following this simple process, you're not going to be an overnight success. But in the long-term, it's inevitable. As long as you keep trying, that is.

    Good luck :-)

      Omar,
      If you do decide to do this I might suggest that you really work on being an effective communicator...i.e. copywriting, Blogging, email Copy, Sales Page etc..etc..

      Being able to write well and persuasively will go a long way in your career

      Iam not inferring you are bad. But everyone should ALWAYS strive to keep improving

    Get a domain name and hosting as part of this. There are a lot of options and if you dont want a long term solution there is also the ability to rent a website on a monthly basis from Rent-A-Web . Spend your money frugally as the best way to start is just grunt work. Get in those social networks promoting or marketing what is going to bring home the bread.

    * I have a Clickbank account.
    Choose highest converters with highest payouts/commissions. Usually I have a rule of thumb. When I put a site up it must have 3 income streams. So think a few out to place on one site.

    * I have hypertracker.
    * Im thinking about getting Aweber.com to make landing pages and manage my Email list.
    Dont waste your money just starting out. You can get a wordpress site and use the mail poet plugin to manage your email newsletter lists and campaigns. Its free and works great and it is a self hosted solution running from your website. If you do want a really good email service to use if you are set on using one try looking at mail chimp. Lets you have something like 2k subscribers for free.
    * I don't have a domain.
    Well either buy one from any registrar or rent one from rent-a-web

    $130 will get you some hosting and a domain.

    However, I really do think you need to sit down and narrow things down before you jump in.

    If I was 19 and in your position I would be doing the following:

    1) Writing a list of what you are knowledgeable in.
    2) Writing a list what you are passionate about.
    3) Writing a list on what interests you.

    Get them 3 lists together, and that should give you some direction.
    Whatever you do, don't be another one of these people who start a blog about marketing when you don't know much about it. Seriously, don't do it. A lot of the internet around the IM scene has become full of these people, regurgitating content and trying to make affiliate commissions.

    Do something you love, as Steve Jobs once said.

    Thanks SOOO MUCH to you guys!!
    I was already confident, but you gave me more confidence to make what probably is a turning point in my life.
    I am going to specialize in marketing, study and pursue it for about 4 to 6 years as it is such a powerful tool that I will do everything to be successful in applying it to my ultimate goals in life. I am one of the most rightfully confident humans now. You gave me some of the best advice I could get in the long and short term. Im lucky and brilliant to get your contributions and Im very thankful to you all!

    I realize that my plan will evolve and improve always as I keep learning more and more.

    This is the plan I came up with:

    1. I am gonna study marketing before heading off to college so when I get there I will be sure to get good grades. (I would be 19 years old after finishing this step.)

    2. As I go to college for my Associates in marketing, I will study marketing to the level of the most successful corporations on the planet and beyond. Basically I will become very knowledgable of marketing. (I will be 21 to 23 after finishing this step.)

    3. I will get a job that can propel me financially and one where I can gain best experience. (I will be 21 to 24 after accomplishing this step.)

    4. then Im going to start my own businesses. (I will be 23 to 25 after finishing this step)

    in the short term and as I study before going to college next semester I will try the methods proposed by some of you guys to get into the atmosphere and have a bit of fun.

    special thanks to discrat and Sean DeSilva I thought you guys had the best advice. But everything has been quality information, so thanks to everyone and Im still looking into it because although I have a solid foundation I still have MASSIVE amount of work to do.. I hope the best for you guys as well

    They often have deals on domains...and deals on hosting. Get a domain, hosting, use wordpress and I agree hold off on the aweber etc at first

    You may do better with some topic that interests you ...are you really interested in a 3 day diet?

    As far as the "post in forum" stuff...it is 2015 maybe that worked years ago when websites were less common but I don't think it works all that well now.Social media would work well for you

    I think you should find some topic that you and your friends would be interested in, and promote that

    As exciting as it is to start on something new like an online business that could potentially rake in cash, don't forget to plan on what you would like to do and how to budget out your expenditure.

    The most basic thing you would need to arm yourself with is definitely a domain and your own site hosting. This will cost you about $10/year for a domain name and $10/month for web hosting.

    Aweber is not compulsory as it depends on what kind of marketing you would like to do. For your case, i would actually recommend that you go with a blog doing reviews and posting related content to promote your affiliate product. You can also try doing video reviews and posting them on youtube to get additional traffic generated to your site.

    Best of luck!
