Am I on the right path?

I just read a post about a guy who gets millions of visitors to his site because he got a bunch of referrals to traffic exchanges.

No business I think is complete without traffic, but being that TE traffic is primarily IM based, if one were to get millions of credits, they would be able to make money in anything.....

So if I focus on building a large database of referrals that give me free traffic, I would be straight...

    Traffic exchanges can get you a lot of traffic, but generally that traffic is super low quality and leads to no conversions or very very few. Things like SEO and SMM bring in much better traffic.


    Sometimes, it's more about quality than quantity.

      Hmmm,

      But just the fact that you can get traffic that can scale for free over time... is hard to pass up on....

      If you send 1,000,000 visitors to an offer dealing with a niche that someone from a traffic exchange would be interested in, you will get a conversion...

      And that traffic can grow monthly with a good downline program....

        You're missing the point. I can build my own sales funnel from the ground up, today, and probably scrape together 15-20 contacts. And of those twenty, I am confident that I can get 3-5 conversions.

        On the other hand, you're saying that you're doing well getting one conversion out of a million...while I'd clear 250,000 conversions if I built my list up to a million. Since it will take work either way...why would I go for the junk traffic when I could focus on quality and make 250,000% more money?

          You bring up a good point, but in order to build a list you need traffic, and most targeted traffic is very expensive, especially in the MMO niche( I think in adwords its like a few bucks per click...)

            Or you can build traffic for free by being an authority within your niche and providing genuine advice that the whole MMO niche is desperate for.

            Take the SearchEngineJournal, for example. They have a 100% organic user-base that they never paid a penny for, and they can literally sell anything to anyone because they have millions of motivated listeners. And while they worked hard to build their user-base and become an authority, it's a brand that will profit on auto pilot for decades.

    Traffic exchanges suck. Everyone on them is trying to do the same thing -- get traffic. No one is in buying mode. Traffic is important, and free traffic is awesome, but that's not the way to get it.

    When I started out with list building back in 2008, Traffic Exchanges worked great.

    Used to get a few subscribers a day and some of them bought my products.

    Today, Traffic Exchanges don't work. They haven't for the past few years. The quality of the traffic is no good. You get way less subscribers, and those that do subscribe don't buy.

    I would be foolish for me to say TE do not work for everyone just because they do not work for me. I will say that traffic is what the whole internet business is about. I think a good test to demonstrate how well the TE is working with high volumes of traffic is to test it up against a small amount of paid traffic. Just set a small budget of 50 -100 dollars. There are many ways you can get laser target traffic for pennies, and you can compare the results with the much higher volumes of traffic you are getting from TE. Give it a try.
