Winds of Change-Article Marketing

Interesting, just had a mailshot from someone telling me the "Squidoo Queen" is now building her own sites - Squidoo is going to toughen up regarding promoting specific affiliate offers - hurtling towards the same approach as Ezinearticles maybe?

Then

An email from Travis Sago ( Bum Marketing) telling me HE is moving to USING Squidoo = easier than Ezinearticles and not as strict.

Anyone noticed traffic volume increases from other "content sites" recently?

ie. Zimbio
Scribd
Ehow
Other Article Directories?

I am getting a bit confused by conflicting reports.

Thanks in advance.

Side note if anyone is in regular contact with Tim Gorman on here the feedburner rss feed on his site is broken. I emailed him and Pm'd him here a week ago, no response and it is still broken.

I used to spend alot of my time worrying about what other people were doing in their businesses, but eventually I learnt that it doesn't matter. I test things out for myself to decide what is a good fit for MY business. If Squidoo works for me then I'll use it - if it doesn't and I find more profitable avenues then I'll use those.

Don't worry what other marketers tell you - look at your own business model, try things out and decide what's right for you. It's impossible to follow a number of different marketers because you'll nearly always get conflicting advice - what works for one person may not work for someone else.

So true man - find what works for you and stick to it.

Personally I use everything: Squidoo, Weebly, Hubpages, Scribd. I also write articles, but mainly I link to the websites mentioned above and not directly to my squeeze pages or sales letter.

This is what works for me

    Squidoo still works.
    ScribD works.
    Zimbio works.

Play by the rules, create quality properties (and your own sites) and you'll see results.

This trend has happened since the beginning of IM.

    New innovative service.

    Attracts lots of Internet users.

IM'ers move in like a plague of locusts.

IM'ers abuse the service and devalue it.

    Service is forced to act.

    Nothing ever changes

I can give you my own views.

I would never, ever use a social networking based site for IM, because I believe that it is an abuse of the service. Including links where appropriate sure - but full on IM no way -and it will always be blocked anyway.

So for me Squidoo is out.

EZA OTOH is ideal. The service is designed to upload useful information, they approve each article, and allow links.

EZA is almost the ideal service for all Internet users.

To get the best out of EZA though you still need to keep the articles ranked. It is not a set it and forget it system - not at all.

Again - in my own view, based on my own experience, social marketing does not have a future, and it is therefore unwise to use it as the basis for IM.

Interesting views. Each to his own- my own view is how on earth can Squidoo and Hub pages expect others to produce unique content for them for the pittance they share back with publishers. ( my opinion only)

I am not exactly new to Im myself,I don't post much here preferring to actually write stuff- but i do read as much as possible.

I musts say EZA still produces great results I was just interested in whether others were experiencing good results with other platforms and properties.

      Thanks to all for input

If using something like Squidoo to market products is an "abuse of the service" why is it that they have pre made modules for things like ebay and Amazon.com to make it easier to sell things on lenses?

Couldn't agree more. I suspect some of the big players are simply attempting to appease g88gle and their endless pursuit of "quality content".

Side note go to blogger and click on next if you want to see G88gles idea of "quality content"- Porn and warez blogs.

I am more interested in harvesting desperate motivated human visitors-disturbing them, proposing a solution- which just happens to be a product of mine or an affiliate offer I get paid for.

Hence the original query regarding "High Traffic" article/Web 2 property/social sites and others experiences should they be prepared to share them.

Perhaps going against the grain I really couldn't care less about what SE require or obtaining "Quality" back links-I certainly have no qualms whatsoever about "abusing" ( = benefiting from) web properties where I contribute unique content thereby allowing them to benefit from the various income streams they employ- a symbiotic approach

I get a kick out of these discussions.

Chicken Little - "The sky is falling"

Me - "Wake me when it's fallen"

If I listened to every gloom and doom thread, email, blog post or tweet that
I saw, I'd be sitting on a street corner with a tin cup, dark glasses and a
chimp named Bonzo begging people for their nickels and dimes.

Whatever I do, I keep an eye on it. I test, track and observe. If I see
something isn't working as well as it used to work, I make changes. If it
still doesn't work anymore, I move on.

There have been methods of promotion that I've used for over 6 years
that I finally moved away from because they stopped working. Others,
are still working all those years later.

You need to stop listening to what people tell you, use your own brain,
            and test things for yourself.

Otherwise, you will be sitting on that street corner with that tin cup, dark
            glasses and a chimp.

            But you can't have mine.

It is not an abuse of service in that respect. It is rather the way the service is used - or abused - depending on how you look at it.

Providing people stick within the rules there are few issues, but many do not.

Well Squidoo, like other social sites, where not created as profit ventures. Most of these sites, Facebook for example, where creates as hobbies which exploded beyond the expectations of the creators.

So Squidoo et al don't expect user to create anything in particular - they simply want their service to function smoothly as intended for the benefit of all Internet users. Most of these free services or course end up re-routing resources in to fending off IM'ers, and usually succeed one way or the other.

My view is that there are plenty of ways of driving traffic to our sites using big ranking sites that lend themselves to information marketing. EZA, Go Articles, Article Base to name but three.

If used intelligently, these sites can rank your pages on the first page of the SERPS and send you any amount of traffic, and everyone is happy.

In business you need to be focused, not jumping around from one "product" or "strategy" to the next, just because it is new and exploitable or fashionable.

Stick to what works, is ethical, has the support of the owners and makes a worthwhile contribution to the Internet Community - the money must and will follow.

I have personally never once used a social site for IM, and I never will for the above reasons.

From the get go Squidoo was created for profits... They've gone through a few periods of "tightening up" to try and stop the out and out spam lenses.

Thanks - yes that is actually what I was indicating although I could have phrased it better in retrospect

I use eZine articles to link to my Squidoo lens. On the lens I have quality content with three links back to my clickbank affiliate product sales page.

The articles that I sent to eZine articles are basen on part of the content on the Squidoo site, but are about 80% rewritten.

This seems to work for me, although I agree with the comment about marketers jumping on the next 'big thing' and commercialising it to death.

I think the answer is to do what the competition in your particular market is doing, plus a little extra. I find that each market I enter seems to respond to different avenues for drawing attention. So I just look at what the others are doing and try to find something better to add to that.

I outsourced a few articles for some of my other pages on my blog and it included reviews for wp plugins and i got over 50 pingbacks in the first 30 minutes this is through a nofollow article directory (articlesbase.com).

A year ago i wouldnt have given them a second thought but we have to look at the full picture and what each of the traffic sources can offer you.

I have now started using classified ads and other things so that i can expand on what i already do.

think about what you can expand on to increase your sales/optins etc.

    kind regards
