Having thousands of emails in my gmail account resulting in my missing out real "important" mails have been my problem for years now.. I know of the spam folder but I don't want to just send emails there because some of them actually contains gems but I only read emails when I'm free, so I usually miss really important emails, then "tons" of other mails push it down out of sight. I've been having this problem for years now..I don't want to just throw away email accounts (because I've been attached with some of them already). But today I learned a neat trick which made me happy and feel dumb at the same time. I didn't knew that I could just easily click on any mail, then click on more action and create a filter to send all of the emails from the same source into a new "label" or "box" that I want. In just a few minutes of doing this I was able to organize my inbox..It Looks so Neat! I'll go and apply this my other email accounts..I'll see if they have the same trick that Gmail have. I'm wondering if yahoo have the same trick? Cheers! oMar/RapidScc |

Interesting. I actually wrote some software to just delete all my mails out of gmail when they got to be too much to handle. Works great too...

My friend taught me about that Gmail filter. I use it for those "unsolicited" email lists I sometimes get placed on. You can tell your mail to take all email from that address, skip the inbox, and delete it. I don't ever see those messages; they go straight to the trash. |

yup... This works great. I've created a label for some of the marketers I like (Simpleology course, Michael Cheeney, Jeff Johnson.) So, their mails figure in bold colors. Others, I just let 'em fall into my inbox and delete them after sifting through the subject lines. If for some reason your inbox gets loaded up, you just click on the individual labels and archive all the mails. Then delete all the Unread e-mails. Awesome feature. |

I used to sign up for mailing lists and forward all the crap to my friends e-mail id since Gmail doesn't require a confirmation. GMail Filters helped a great deal... And then I went one step ahead. I made about 10 different gmail ids, forwarded the emails in there to her. I set up individual filters to forward the mails to those accounts too. So, the effect was x10. Ah.. Those were the days. You are right, Filters can do a lot. They can auto delete certain mail, they can forward it to another account. If I'm expecting a very important email I set a filter to send me a notice on my cell phone. Then I know when to check my email. George Wright |

I do believe ymail has filters but I'm not sure...haven't logged in in forever. You can also track where somebody got your email from by using the . with your filters. For example if your gmail handle is rapidscc, then r.apidscc and rapid.scc will both go to your inbox but you can filter them separately. Keep in mind another savvy person may be aware of it and can just email you without the (.). As for discovering obvious gmail features---don't feel so bad. They just came out of beta last week! |
