Free domain with monthly hosting would it work ?!

Hey guys,

So as most of you know there is some hosting companies that offers free domain when paying for an annual term, and what it looks like its working very well for the most, but many people would like to get that free domain but can only pay month to month.
What do you guys think of this: a free domain with month-month hosting packages and the domain cannot be transferred till atleast 90 days pass, would it work ?

It wouldn't hurt your chances of getting the customer ... the questions are

    (1) Do you really want the customer who can't drop $8 for a domain?

    (2) Do you really want the customer who, for whatever reason other than money, CAN'T or WON'T put his own name on a domain?

    (3) Do you want to deal with ownership disputes from customers who will take you up on the deal, then decide they don't like your hosting and start trouble when you refuse to release the domain to them?

None of those are particularly difficult obstacles to overcome, just get your ToS documentation in order and cover your butt legally going down this path.

I don't see why it wouldn't. But what if the member wanted to change hosting in the future. Would he pay for the domain at that time in order to transfer it to a new host?

Or maybe you could offer it free for the first year with a year of prepaid hosting, then you're guaranteed to have that member for at least a year, right?

The domain is completely theirs from the first month payment, but cannot be released till 90 days pass.(so technically the client will have to stick with us for 90 days)
