Is anyone else addicted to checking stats/sales 10 times a day?

I used to be exactly the same checking google analytics frequently when I first started getting traffic to my blog.

I don't really have any tips when it comes to not checking frequently, I just kind of realized that I was wasting my time checking it over and over and kind of just stopped.

Any tips. Stop checking haha. I was very similar in regards to checking my e-mails. Now I set that I am allowed to only check them two times during my working day. After that I can feel free to check as much as I want.

I guess the best thing you can do is make a planning and force yourself to only check certain times of the day.

Apart from that there's not much you can do, because as you say it's addictive and no addiction is easy to let go.

It could be a good addiction? When I have campaigns running I check quite often to see if sales have been made. Usually they have so it serves as a mood booster and motivates me to do more.

Although I guess the opposite is true if no sales are made....

I am exactly the same! I still have not been able to stop. I try to schedule times each day to check stats, usually in the evening. This sometimes works, but other days I check a couple times. Have not found the magic trick yet!

It's definately an urge I've had, I try to fight this as much as possible as I've found this can cause an emotional response/decision to campaigns opposed to a calculated decision (pausing stuff too early or making changes too early )

Sorry, there is no cure for this OCD (which all new IMers that begin to have success suffer) except one thing...

Well,I am also facing the same problem. I also love to check my all sales more than 5 times in a day. If I think of another thing, then again this thing comes in my mind. So, I can't suggest you anything.

I will share you the best way to stop checking. Even i have the same habit . But most of the time i make my mind that after a day when i see my sales i will be pretty happy to see that i have made such a large number instead of checking every hour an making you mood sad. This will really work. Try it.

It is a common problem with everyone. The brave ones admit it while other deny it . I do check my stats atleast 2 - 3 times a day. Now that you have reminded me, I will check it again,

Just concentrate on your work and promote instead of checking every now and then. Don't worry, you will be fine. As time passes by, you will less concerned about it.

I can relate to this very well. I would see my stats several times a day especially when I started getting few sales as an affiliate. The habit faded gradually when I realized it was normal to make money online.

I think nearly everybody suffers this in some form whether they are IMers or from other walks of life. Soon as you are in a position with quantifiable stats for success the urge is to check them regularly.

I had the same problem when I first started trading forex and still do to a point.
I had that problem when I first started selling on fiverr.
I had that problem when I first started many other things.

You just have to decide for yourself that you are not going to check every 5 mins and just stick to it. Soon you will naturally only check once or twice a day.

I dont think checking all the time is all that bad except for the fact that it is just so much accumulated unproductive time. Although if you check and the results are not as you hoped it can sometimes dent your mood. But on the other hand you get a motivational boost when it is better than you expected. So it all goes around I guess.

Not sales, but my first few months of building Adsense niche sites, I would have my Adsense account open in a tab and constantly refresh throughout the day

It used to be a BIG problem for me because it was fun and exciting. It also motivated me to keep working hard. After awhile it is just becomes a time drain if there is no legitimate reason to check.

I check stats and emails first thing when I boot up in the morning and then again about 3:00 p.m. This works out for me because I can deal with issues promptly but I am not a slave to checking all day.

The cart I use has an app that tells you your traffic and order stats. I check it probably a hundred times a day. It has zero effect on productivity because it takes about 5 minutes at most out of my day. Gotta love technology.

I'm addicted, but every time I check, there's more in there than the last time.

Plus, when you're spending multiple thousands a day on traffic, kinda smart to keep your eyes on things to make sure nothing breaks.

Because if something does break, even 15 minutes of whatever is down or broken can cost you hundreds.

Yeah I'm guilty of this, especially if I'm a bit tired and the task I'm working on requires a lot of thinking, like writing an article. I have quite a big YouTube that gets a lot of traffic and it's so tempting to keep looking at the real-time view stats lol.

Checking sales stats is actually a a very good thing to do. But as they say excess of everything is bad, so it must be in a limit.

It's so hard not to check all the time, however it can be very depressing every time you log in and see you have not made any money

I found when I first started to drive traffic, I would check it often. Realized I needed to be disciplined enough to schedule it. So I have an alarm on my cell phone that let's me know when to check.

I check my stats twice a day. Once in the morning at 10 AM and again at 4 PM when the alarm goes off. Has been a time saver and helps me from being distracted.

Don't do this "checking stats" activity anymore. It will give you schizophrenia and make you delusional, and then make you start copying other peoples' sites, and then make you delve into illegal matters, and then make you (eventually) broke.

Okay i over-exaggerate here, but seriously.... stop checking your stats so much. Find another activity that can occupy your mind. For me, this activity was cooking. And yes, i used to check my email for sales notifications all the time. Then i just stopped looking. THEN that's when the sales started popping up every now and again. And now..... sales are just there in my inbox when i wake up. Don't let this addiction overcome you - because it can.

Make a plan to check email and stats once a day and focus on work. It increases your productivity.

Depending on what stats we're talking, it's never a bad thing.

When you're an affiliate, and especially when you're driving a lot of direct traffic, there are so many things that can go wrong, either on your side, or the networks. I eventually created a a software that follows the entire path, and will alert me if there's a break.

It also serves to help prevent the network you're on from scrubbing you. Put the checker on it's own subid, and if the numbers don't line up on your network, you know they're scrubbing your sales. As Jason mentioned above, it can mean the difference of losing thousands of dollars in profit if you don't catch it soon enough. Even with an automated path software, there are certain things that can still go wrong. If your URL on fb gets flagged, the path will still seem clear to your bot.

Even with that in place, I still check my sales every hour. It's a rewarding practice, and I see no reason to stop. It only takes a moment to refresh the network, and after a while, you can estimate what your campaign has spent by the time of day, and easily calculate your ROI.

One of my browser tabs always displays my stats. I use it the same way I use Windows Explorer. Right in the thick of things... watching the progress of the things I do... making necessary tweaks as required.

I seem to waste a lot of time checking stats and sales as well...
