Extra Domain Names are Burning Cash: What to do?

Hello,

I have quite a few domain names just eating cash and providing no value. Some are for future projects or past projects that fizzled.

I would like to earn at least $20 per year with just a few minutes setup.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

List them for sale on Sedo.com and Afternic.com. Park them at Parked.com.

use a parked domain site, you park it and share the revenue with the site owner.
if they are specific niche type of domains, offer them for sale to the niche via forums or direct email contact to niche. list them all here on warrior forum for sale.
    parked.com is an example.
personally i despise parking sites, the net is full of useless sites, but if you want to do something with them, that's an option!

I am assuming that you have hosting space - put some contents on then social bookmark them and promote them a little then once you have them bookmarked at enough social bookmarking sites take the contents off and set up Adsense for domain. Whether you'll make $20 a year with one domain or not depends on the traffic and traffic sources ofcourse. If you need any help setting up Adsense for domain PM me, I'll be glad to help.

From my understanding parked domains do not earn income unless traffic is being driven there or you have key terms that are searched for.
Also I understand (could be wrong on this) that Google does not like parked domains so parking could hurt you if you use the name in the future for a project because they may penalize it for having been parked.
If you put content and promote them that takes a lot of effort to do it properly.

My thought would be to sell the good names that have a value and the ones you want to develop and cut your losses on the other ones.

You must have a LOT of domains for $20/year to be worth your time. Just drop them.

    Lots of stellar ideas.

One thing I do is say "Site is coming soon, but until then, check this out (I highly recommend it!)" and then link to an affiliate banner.

(That's assuming these are good domain names that people are typing in, of course. )

      Rachel,

That is such an excellent, and obvious, idea.

Why didn't I think of that?

I know what to do with all my domains now.

If the domains are worth it - lease them - you still get to be the owner and leasing it to someone for $100-$200/year is not bad at all. Put up a page saying for sale for US$ 2,000 or lease it for US$ 19.99/month.

If they are in a similar niche (or perhaps even if they're not), why not bundle them together and sell them as a pack.

I've done this in the past, and it's helped to get them moved. Then I can concentrate on my main projects (that was the idea ~ in reality, I just went and bought some more!!).

Have 10 articles created, throw up a Wordpress blog and flip it. Make a few bucks in the process.

advantages of autoblog: potential monetization for domain / site (adsense, ebay partner network, amazon, etc.), potential for pages indexed in search engines, rank for long tail search terms.

disadvantages: potential for deindexing of domain by search engines, content that does get indexed may not be content you want associated w/ your site in future if plans for development
