Starting out the best way to go about is finding a good mentor is find somebody that is actually able to give you a step by step guide and is doesn't talk a lot of hype. Many mentors and coaches online these days that don't care much about the value they offer there students. Look for somebody that teaches you from experience and has a way to reach them. I've personally learned from a lot of mentors and through a lot of experience on my own and I can say not all coaches are created equal. Find someone that you can connect with that does what you want to do.

It is a little hard to answer because in my experience even well known successful IMers with coaching programs may not be that good of a teacher/coach. I have had a very well known coach completely disappear on me. I have also had a coach that is worth his weight in gold.

I think the comment by Matthew is a good one. The key is communication, constant, rapid and easy communication. I always tell people to talk with the coach before hand. Ask them questions about their coaching, what form it will take, is it structured etc. Make sure you get answers to your satisfaction after all you are hiring them!

I don't think the place to START is finding a mentor because how will you know if they're teaching you the right things to become successful or not? So I always tell people to start by checking out authority sites like Hubspot where there's full online marketing courses for free, and then follow that up with specific research in the fields that interest you.

Now, that's probably not the path you want to take but trust me, I've mentored hundreds of people starting out and only a few dozen are successful today. That's because there's a steep learning curve in IM and very few want to put in the time to do things the right way.

    I hope that helps.

Exactly. If you want to be a basketball player you wouldn't want a football coach.

Are you still thinking about doing the Internet Marketing Consultant route as you mentioned here: Internet Marketing Consultant Course

I think a couple first good steps would be:

    1. Have one or two domains/websites that you can practice on, get experience with, earn money with, etc. A coach or a course isn't going to be able to tell you what to do without practice on your own. Period.

    2. In the other thread you said something like "not just Udemy" but I would suggest that your first learning resources might be:
    • This forum
    • WSOs (even free ones) and courses found through places like Udemy
    • Sign up for some email lists of people that resonate with you and what you are interested in
Do it this way to get a feel for what exactly you want to do, learn new techniques, vocabulary, etc.

Then once you have a clearer picture of everything and once you have already started practicing on your own site(s), you'll be better prepared for coaching if that's what you need. Many (most) people don't need coaching as much as they need to follow a program (almost any program) with the proper mindset and work ethic.

      Hi guys, appreciate your answers,

I know udemy, lynda and so on, also watches lots of tutorials.

And yes last year i bought a "internet marketing consultant course" but it was not exactly
      what i was looking for.

I am looking for a kind of mentor, like guidens in the right direction, what to do next and so
forth. Which skills i need, what to write on the website, how to land costumers, and most important help me thru the first couple of clients.

Dont know if this is possible to find. The internet is bombarded with courses, but how to
see if it´s just a scam or not.

      Thanks best regards from Denmark.

There is no way to know without wasting your money, which is why people here told you to learn from free courses and start working on a project yourself. Until you make the personal investment of time, you're not risking anything and you're never going to have the chance to succeed.
