I am Stuck At Keyword Research! How Do You Do It Quickly?

I have been around 3 days trying to determine what keyword to use but still can't figure it out!

I know it should be long tail and and less competition to make it easy to rank and I have using Market Samurai, Long Tail Pro, Ubersuggest, SEOQuake, Mozbar also Google Keyword Planner and Google itself! I have also following many keyword research guides.

My problem here is every keyword I analyzed always being reported as having strong competitors and hard to rank. It makes me should select other keywords again and again to find the profitable keyword with low competition or the easy one to rank. But it seem will never happen, since I have done it for around 3 days without any result.

Is there any way to determine that kind of keyword quickly? Maybe by using other tool or there is a trick to achieve it!

Thanks in advance

Try to start with keywords with low competition, which will mostly be low traffic too. Low traffic will mean low competition for the keywords. You need to make a compromise initially and start with low traffic and low competition keywords.

    What I do:

    1. Search the main keyword at Google Keyword Planner, and pick a few that I think suitable, can have multiple variations.
    2. Use Keywordtool.io to look for long tail keywords that people look for in Google (according to the main keyword, and few keywords I chosen in #1). Then, export the result for later use.
    3. Write! Get to work! I personally don't care much for the competition/low search/etc, just create content that will benefits real people.

If you care for the competition, better start with the lowest search result.

Or, you can hire warriors, I'm aware that there are warriors that offer keyword research here.

My advice: start writing, stop searching (since you already have the keywords with you)

    Hope this helps.

Google has a new tool in AdWords that sets up a campaign for you and ads over 1000 keywords based on the few you provide. Then you change AdWords back to classic mode and use the Keyword list.

Indeed, I recommend to go after long tail keywords as well.

Even if they have only 1k-15k searches a month if you get about 10 or 100 long tails ranking good and high up in search you can see your traffic numbers go up dramatically.

Start small, dream big you'll get there.
Never expect things to happen over night.

Also, just because a keyword planners says there is a high competition doesn't mean there really is. Search in Google yourself - look at how many results there are is it less than 1 million? more than 100 million? If less than 1 million great! less than 500k even better.

    best of luck to you

  • Yeah just one keyword tool and find your keywords. The software's are coinciding with each other and they all have different metrics to measure the competition and profitability.

You are over complicating the entire thing. Make it easy for yourself, just pick a keyword and work to rank for it. Don't worry about the competition, just do your seo.

If you want to do it quick, then just guess. Seriously...write down what you think the ten most common things people would type into the search engines would be, then write 5 variations of each and you're done.

Quick does not relate to quality though, and keywords are definitely something that you want to get right the first time. So if it takes you a week then so be it...it was a week well spent.

What are you researching keywords for? To give a good answer I'd need to know this (eg. To start a new site, a ppc campaign , etc)

I want to start Youtube affiliate marketing, and it seem very difficult to find a keyword which is sync with everything related to profitability measurements, ie: affiliate product availability, less competitiveness, easiness to rank and decent search volumes per month (80 or above is enough for me as beginner in this field).

    Hi A,

I would not rush through it

I get being a bit impatient at times, and the practical tips shared help, and your tool seems to be a goodie, but be calm, be patient, and find those low comp, longtail keywords.

    This is not a sprint.

Each extra day you spend on research now will save you years of headaches down the road.

You outdistance 99% of the folks from your niche.

I know it sounds nuts, but it's true. A bit of extra time spent planning, now, makes your job tomorrow, and next year, easier, because you'll be targeting your readers and customers while others are throwing darts at a board.

    Onward and upward!

If you want to be serious about your website, then there isn't a quick method to search for the perfect long tail keywords, you need time and you also need to do a lot of brainstorming.
You could try and start writing, ignoring the competition and try to 'beat' them, but it would probably take you longer than it would if you did some more research before starting out.

Perhaps you are searching for keywords in a over saturated niche like weight loss? If this is the case than that niche might not be for you if you are new to internet marketing. If you are using very competitive keywords you need to do a lot of SEO and back links to your website, which might not be that easy if you are new to IM.

Try to drill down your search using long tail keywords in Google using the search tool find out if there are any authority sites listed on the 10 top results and if not, check there stats to see how many backlinks they have, these keywords will have much less competition and easier to rank for..

If you want to be done with keyword research quickly, you can do what I did: skip it entirely. Instead focus on developing your business model, your value proposition, listening to your customers, and developing a great product or service.

Personally, I think keyword research is overrated. Most (though certainly not all) successful online businesses get most (though certainly not all) of their traffic from sources other than search engines. Regardless, the best way to improve search engine rankings is to focus on quality content that others want to link to.

As for discovering an "unsaturated" niche, what I did when starting my business was to think of a website that wanted to use, but that either didn't exist or wasn't executed well. I then did some research on the competitors (and potential partners and allies) to ensure that my niche wasn't saturated by sites I hadn't been aware of, but once it was pretty clear it wasn't I just built the thing.

Just because this is online business, doesn't mean it's really very different than starting any other business. You think of a product/service people need that you can deliver faster, cheaper, or better than your competition and you do it. If you were starting a restaurant, you wouldn't worry about keywords in your menu -- you'd be more focused on making sure your food and service were good. The same applies here.

The only way you can have a profitable unsaturated niche is to create it! Think of something different and make it famous.

As for me, I like competition. Do not worry if you want to rank a keyword with strong competition as long as you do your SEO as favored by Google, you will win the top SERPs for your chosen keyword. The reason why it has high competition is because it is very profitable. Why would you search for low competition keywords if they not that profitable at all?

Depends on what your using the keywords for?
To rank in Google along with SEO I'm guessing?

    1. See what keywords your competitors are using (right click, inspect element on chrome or firebug with firefox and look at what their websites are using)
    2. Test them out running some ads - see what kind of volume they get. No traffic = no results. Running ads is the fastest and most reliable way to check this. If they get volume, and people CLICK THROUGH, then you have hard evidence that people are looking for something. Otherwise it's not worth your time.
    3. Why use the tools that everyone else is using...when everyone else is going to compete for those same keywords???

    Some thoughts to consider.

Key point - try do things differently. Do things the opposite of what everyone tells you and you will get results.

PM me if you have any questions.

If you use Google Keyword Planner, you're only going to get the same keywords that all your competitors will be using.

      What's the point of that?

I wrote a book about keyword research and it is not that complicated. But you have to know how the different tools like GKP, Market Samourai etc. work. When you use these the right way, and put it into a nice spreadsheet, it is not too complicated to find the golden keywords that you're looking for (high volume, low competition)

my advice to you is to focus on technical keywords, but not all the time your website must contain something valuable, follow the following steps:
    -pick a technical keyword
    -put your keyword in ubersuggest.com
-then choose a long tail keyword that have a low compitition and high search.

repeat this until you find your keyword.
    hope this useful.

Going after long-tail, unsaturated niches before you even start your site usually means you're just looking for a quick short-term financial gain with your venture.

Competition means a big market. Don't shy away from a niche because of competition. Approach it with the mindset that you'll create something really awesome and one day dominate that niche as a major player.

This is where 99% of people get caught up. In all honesty, if what you're offering is of TRUE value, you can probably beat out the competition. Here are my "rules" for choosing a keyword/niche:

    Exact match searches
: at least 3,000 exact match searches per month
Competition: Use long tail pro OR do a quick Google search on your keyword and see what pops up (see if there are high ranking authority pages, etc.)
CPC: Higher CPC means there are more advertisers bidding on that keyword (which obviously means there's money to be made in that market.
Affiliate Offers: Go to Clickbank and see if there are any affiliate products related to your niche. That last thing you want to do is build a great site only to realize that there's no way to make money from it.

    Good luck.

Skip the keyword research. Start writing and posting. As you continue writing and posting, watch your stats. See what keywords are receiving results and start focusing on those words as you write more articles. It's a constant circle. Write naturally and you'll continually have new words receive traffic. Don't count your keywords or their frequency. Just write on your subject matter naturally and you'll be rewarded.

Don't try to get this perfect. Some content that you create will get you good results and some won't. That's just how IM works. Don't take too long before taking action. Just start taking the action. Then 'tweak' to get better results.
