If you use a self hosted script then no.

If it is a mainstream autoresponder like aweber or trafficwave then yes they will need to confirm (opt-in)

If you use a hosted script on your own server then it's optional however for the sake of CAN-SPAM act its best to give them the option to Opt-in to your communications.

      Maybe Iam missing something ?

If you have Confirmed Optin on "off" then you do not need for Subs to do this to start sending out emails !

The whole point of the Opt-in is to verify that persons email address exists and to give them the choice to receive emails from you without giving them a reason to report as spam.

You don't want a list of unconfirmed emails because it will just increase your bounce rate.

          This makes sense.

Yes I am hosting the script.

Sorry, but almost every highly successful Email Marketing does not go this route.
          ( Don't believe me ? Do a Search here )

Tests after Tests have shown and demonstrated over a period of time, Marketers make more money across the board by not having the Confirmed Optin 'On' at their Autoresponder provider.

But you are welcome to do as you want

You're getting confused. Most autoresponder services allow you to offer what's called a single opt-in as well as a confirmed opt-in. Only the latter requires that subscribers separately confirm their email address.

If you use the single opt-in for signing up subscribers, you can start emailing them immediately.

No, in major providers (GR, AW...) you can send them emails as soon as they optin, no need for confirmations.

It's completely your choice. You can have a single opt in...which means they sign up and you send them emails, or you can have a double opt-in where they have to confirm their email first. I don't think that's what you're really asking though.

It seems like you're trying to figure out if it's ethical to get an email address by any possible means and then market to it...and the answer is no. You only want to send messages to people who are interested in your niche, and you only want to send those messages when you actually have something important to say. I hope that helps.

As others have already pointed out, from a technical standpoint if you set up your list as single opt-in, you can begin sending email immediately.

Whether you should or not depends on what you promised them when they opted in.

Let's take a really obvious one. On your opt-in page, you include one of those "we will never spam you" lines. I opt in. You immediately start sending solo ads or clickbanking emails for anyone with a pulse and a product. While technically not "spam", it's going to create distrust, as in my eyes, you lied to me right out of the gate.

On the other hand, if you tell me ahead of time that you will send emails from both yourself and hand-picked partners - while not sharing, selling or renting the actual list - I know what to expect. I may choose not to sign up, but I may still if what you offer has enough value for me.

Email marketing is all about setting expectations and then living up - or down - to them...

    behnampdg3,

It actually depends on the autoresponder you are using and how you set it up cause in most autoresponders like aweber if you turn off the email confirmation your subscribers will get the newsletter instantly depending on how you set it up.

    Hope that helps

Single opt-in is better. I can recommend a wordpress plugin if you need one, then you only have a one time fee as well, and you are in complete control of your data.
