Easy website creation

Are there any stand alone website software programs out there like google page creator or synthasite(yola)? After using those I really dont want to go to dreamweaver or joomla, seem real hard to use.

When I started I used Kompozer for basic stuff. It's a free What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) Website Authoring System. It's a bit fiddly and buggy at times and certainly not a long-term answer to your problem but possibly a short-term fix.

With every website authoring system you have to expect a learning curve, and you have to allocate some quiet time for the learning.

If you stick with it you'll be pleased and surprised with what you can achieve.

Might be worth learning Wordpress (even if you get one setup for you).

They are pretty easy to use and powerful once you get the hang of it compared to HTML editors.

I haven't used it personally, but doesn't XSitePro do something like that?

I thought about Weebly too when I saw the thread title, but Alexa_S makes a number of good points (especially the last line!).

On that note, it depends what your purpose for the site(s) is, I guess.

I presume you want to learn how to do more than put up a Weebly site, but I might be wrong. I think, for example, that I would have been better off when I started out just lashing together a Blogger blog (or something like that), learning how to drive traffic to it, getting a bit of money rolling in from Adsense or affiliate ads or whatever, and then outsourcing WP-site set-up, static site set-up, etc. to someone who knew how to do it inside and out.

Instead I spent a lot of time learning how to do stuff that got in the way of me making any money for a long, long time. Heck! I still don't make much money online! It's a nice ego-stroke to be able to do all the tech-stuff, but I still have to work a day job, y'know.

So, justinsane187, depends on your purpose, really, dunnit? Quick'n'Easy for the purpose of (limited control and tenuous longevity) monetisation: Try Weebly, WetPaint, Blogger, Wordpress-MU, Squidoo, HubPages, etc.

If you want something more, then learn how to install and configure Wordpress on your own domains. That'll keep you going for a long time. Then, extend out to static HTML sites if you really want to learn how to code.

If not, sweet! Outsource and don't worry about it.

    Best,

Learn Wordpress and buy Artisteer... I swear you'll love it.

I am a ColdFsion developer, and once I learned Wordpress I was able to build sites in minutes, and when I bought Artisteer I was able to make my own customized templates rather than downloading free templates that didn't work for me.

I still develop CF apps, but all of my IM work is done in WP.

    Just my opinion of course...

The simple way is to create a site in word press. It is very simple and easy to use.

Well..the thing is, i know later on im going to try making some niche sites. For the time being I want to make a streaming video site with 30 sec to 10 min clips. I want the site to look fairly nice with tabs on the top and maybe some flash.

I have the adobe master pack and artisier but after using that program they had on yola when I was practicing it just seems so much easier and didnt look too bad. Thing is I have a host now on cpanel and my own domain so im left with alot of other options.

I'm a huge fan of Xsite Pro. It works for people with little experience as well as those with more. It's really easy to use and does some of the ancillary things really well lime embedding audio and video as well as making your site search engine friendly. It's well worth the expense.

WordPress all the way. You mention you have your own hosting space with cPanel now - it wouldn't cost anything extra or take more than five minutes to install WordPress via Fantastico in cPanel and have a look to see if you can get on with it. It's even quicker to uninstall it the same way if you don't.

  • the type of site you want may not be that easy to do with wordpress.

have a look around at the different free web templates out there.
I bet you can find one that is real close to what you want and then you can use a text editor to tweak it.

or use kompozer or NVU etc.

    luck,

I agree that Wordpress in the way to go. I even find that I use Dreamweaver less and less. And it's free...doesn't get much better than that:-)
