Blogging as a non-native speaker

Hello guys,

This is my first post. I've been lurking for a while and finally decided to register and start posting.

I think about blogging but as a non-native speaker I'm not sure whether my English is good enough to deliver my thoughts and ideas in a proper way, I'm not going into freelance writing so I dont claim to be a writing expert or something like that. I just want to start a fitness/health blog and gradually build it up.

I know that may non-natives are actively engaged in online marketing but I'm not sure whether most of them create written content by. themselves.

I've just written a generic fitness article and I would be very thankful if you guys could give me some feedback on my writing.

Thanks a lot.

How to increase metabolism
Metabolism speed is determined by many factors: age, gender, genetics, physical activity and even emotional condition. Some foods and drinks (micronutrients in them, to be more precise) can also increase metabolism.

Protein

Food that is high in protein (meat, fish, eggs, dairy products, etc.) increase metabolism, demanding more energy for digestion. It is considered that 25-30% of consumed protein calories are burnt during the digesting process itself. Besides that, protein food suppresses hunger for a long time. But do not forget about fats and carbohydrates – providers of many nutrients that protein does not contain. Excess of protein can overload liver and kidneys too.

Spices

Some spices, especially red pepper, are able to boost metabolism (up to 50%) for several hours; such increase is caused by heightened heartbeat and blood flow, which requires additional energy expenditure. Additionally, pepper disinfects food and improves the performance of the digestive tract. But don’t run mad after overly spicy and hot food: it is harmful for stomach and heart, which experiences increased burden.

Nourishing Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It is the common truth and don’t question it. If you trade breakfast for a cup of coffee, your body works in impaired mode whole day long. And, on the other hand, if you eat oats, eggs or yogurt then you metabolism is significantly increased.

Liquids

Liquid (even simple water) helps to digest food and burn calories. Drink more clean water and green tea. The last one possesses many useful features, including the ability to increase metabolism and burn fat. Drinks that contain caffeine are effective too: coffee, cacao, black and green tea. Caffeine not only increases heartbeat but also stimulates adrenaline release and nervous system.
If you are not caffeine-sensitive, drink a cup of coffee or hot chocolate with breakfast and you will increase your metabolism, activate thought process and easily get into the active mood.

Variety

Vitamins (ascorbic acid and niacin, for instance), minerals (chrome, calcium, iodine and others) and also omega 3 fatty acids increase the speed of metabolism, improve digestion, activate hormonal system and aid in processing of fats and carbohydrates. Eat large varieties food but in small amounts. Include grapefruit, cabbage and dairy products into your diet and you will get all components essential for increased weight loss.

Remember: metabolism increases when a person keeps healthy, balanced diet and indulges in various physical exercises.

Congrats on stepping up and taking action!

I've seen worse articles than this one. Writing god articles is something you get good at by training and more training. There are also lots of great (and free) resources out there that you can use to improve on your writing. Just google "free copywriting course" and you will get lots of results.

My best advice is to start publishing articles. The more you write the better it gets

Your English is actually very good!
I think you can safely continue to write, most of your visitors won't even know you're not a native English speaker!

If you still have doubts about your English though, you could try using Ginger, it's a tool that autocorrects your English, not just the spelling but grammar too.

I'm a not a native English speaker, and I write my content, I don't outsource.

People read your stuff because they want to know what you know, they don't care about a couple of typos and grammar errors.

Your article is actually good and speaking from experience, you'll only get better as you write more articles.

So, don't be insecure and don't let anyone feel you like that either (if someone is saying your English is not good enough, that is).

    All the best!

One or two typos aren't that bad, but grammar errors are a big red flag for me. I can't take someone who didn't take the time to have their content proofread seriously.

Writing is of good quality - in an English language quality rating.

The structure of that article may need a bit of a sharpen up. That too will come in time. Have your readers attention in mind when constructing articles.

I don't agree on the breakfast thing though... I'm a fitness guy and basically eat like a bird and drink short black coffees until the afternoon. Good breakfasts are a killer for me ;-)

You shouldn't worry about your writing skills, I was expecting something WAY worst...

If you're still unsure about your writing, you can always hire a proofreader. Some will do it for as low as 3$ per 500 words. They will also improve your phrase structure and give you some suggestions to improve the quality of your content.

I am a qualified adult educator, and a native English speaker - there are one or two missing connector words but your actual flow of logic, and sentence construction is A1. You will have absolutely no difficulty in writing your blog, another good idea is to produce short videos, mix it up between text and video; that way people don't get bored so easily.

When writing in any language - the grasp and fluency is what counts. With your grasp of English you can easily work in the language - and you don't have to worry about "article writing".

The sample is fine - a couple minor dings are not important. You seem to know the subject so dig into it a bit. Don't try to be too generic or general...share info and give details as if you are talking to someone standing in front of you. That's when your personality will seep into the blog posts.

      Good luck.

Most of the people of the world, are not Native English Speaker. Most of the people are using the English language as a second language or , third. Most of the people are writing the content of his own. Here I think if you can make understand your think to others, it is enough. But some content need to be 100% accurate. so there you can hire any freelancer to do this sensitive writing. Thanks.

Dude, your article is better than many I have read from natives.

Also, many bloggers with so-so English are actually quite successful for one reason or another. I have a particular blogger in mind, but I won't mention him because I just don't want to single him out. Anyway, go right ahead.... you're great!

I'm also a non-native English writer/blogger. And I know my English is not perfect. That didn't prevent me from creating my blog and writing and publishing 10 books on Amazon which are selling at a steady rate and have good feedback. Actually, I NEVER got any feedback about style/grammar or whatever. Probably because my books are all non-fiction books (how to do ...). And in that case, people don't really care too much about grammar, style and spelling. They just want their problem fixed. However , I'm now working on my first novel and I realize that I will have that one to be reviewed by a professional editor before publishing it.

PS: I think your English is rather good.

I think you are doing a fine job. As the saying goes "practice makes perfect" whether you post the final product or not, consistently writing will make you more and more comfortable with it. If there is ever a piece you feel uncertain about, feel free to post it in a place you feel comfortable, such as this forum, and see if people are willing to proofread it for you. Positive criticism and what not. ^)^
