Popular Topic For A Site

Hello Warriors,

I have a domain name with the word "Jinx" in it -

I would like to get some ideas as how I should develop it so that the site would become a success and the subject to be related to the word Jinx as well.

(BTW, the ideas that jinx.com has used on its website seem very unrelated to its domain name which is a bit puzzling.)

    Well... the word jinx means "bad luck" so a blog topic, if you want to stay relevant, should center around that definition. The Jinx name is something that is easy to remember and is probably used primarily for that factor on the Jinx.com website, not about the definition.

      I actually registered the domain name myself so I was aware of its meaning at the time

      Also, on jinx.com I think there's a game by that name. May be that's the reason. Other than that it would be a waste of using such a brandable name in "a not very thoughtfully chosen category" IMO.

      I totally disagree - if the subject of the site (niche) is relevant to the name of the domain, the job will be a hundred times easier in many ways. e.g. in terms of SEO ranking, in terms of becoming famous and memorable, in terms of its brand and last but not least in terms of its selling value.

      As another justification for my logic - let's assume I used the site for dating to be used ONLY by individuals who have not had any luck with previous partners or never found any suitable partners before and they put it down to being jinxed in their relationships or finding someone to love.

        The point is that you're doing things backwards. You've bought a domain name that you didn't have a plan for and now you're trying to find an idea for a site to match that domain. It's not really a recipe for success.

          That would be a reasonable statement to make. But as I am a domainer as well as a site developer, I was searching for brandable domains to put on BrandBucket for sale as I normally would do - so I could not believe my luck when I came across a highly brandable name with that word in it - I have already put the domain on sale for 5k (not on BB though) but I know if I could develop it and managed to make a successful site of it, it would be worth many times that amount - As well as I much prefer to have sites earning me regular money everyday than get a lump sum by flipping it.

          @Pkjobs

          Yes, I normally do that before I start promoting a specific product.

    You could curate YouTube videos on Jinx, or you could turn the meaning all around and create / sell motivational products that turn your life around -- for the better! Self Help books are pretty popular.

      "Jinx" is not a money word . . . especially combined with another word.

      I would not begin a business based on a random domain name, especially when the keyword is not a money word.

      With respect, I think you are missing the point made in the reply by Brent Stangel. Steve B has also made the same point very well:

      What both replies are saying, in effect, is that you don't achieve success just on the strength of having a domain name even if it is an exact match to a niche. There has to be a demand for products related to what your site is all about, whatever its name. In this context I am using "products" to take in physical items or a website that provides information and is monetised by adsense or something similar. If there aren't enough people interested in what you have to offer, then you aren't going to have much success.

      To put it another way, success usually comes, (there are exceptions), by first identifying a niche where there plenty of buyers and lots of different products that they can buy, and then marketing to that niche.

      Doing it the other way around by creating a product, (in this case a website), without knowing if there is a worthwhile market to serve can be non-productive and wasteful of resources. It is also a major reason why many businesses fail.

      This is not to say that you're ideas might not be successful. The point is that it would be worth your while analyzing the potential for success before you put any time and money into developing a website. The only exception to this is if you are creating a site around a hobby interest and don't care about profit.

      There's nothing wrong with that but the same marketing principles apply. Are there sufficient people who would put their failure to meet their perfect mate down to their being jinxed to make it worth your while building a business to serve their needs? If you don't know the answer to this, then you run the risk of wasting your time and money developing this idea.

      There are countless examples of businesses that failed because they produced products that nobody wanted to buy. That's why the smart ones spend a lot of time and money on consumer research or, in internet marketing speak, finding a profitable niche.

    "Jinx" or any other word for that matter, does not have to be a money word as it's being referred to in here for a site to make money.

    Once a website has a good number of visitors then it can be monitized in a number of ways - Adsense being one as was mentioned by "AntonioSeegars1" as well - Amazon is another obvious one and a whole host of other products. In fact the variety of products that can be promoted on such a site would make this site far more profitable than if let's say I had created a site on one specific niche only, such as Green Coffee for instance.

    @karlstech

    Your suggestion is surely a viable one but would use it as the last resort as trying to compete against other big Video sites might need a lot of hard work - I am looking for a noble idea which would not need more work after the site has been completed. An example of this would be a site based on games which were made extremely difficult to win at.

    @AntonioSeegars1

    Sorry I don't quite get the connection between being jinxed and paranormals Are you suggesting all Ghosts would jinx you? You know there are some very civilised and friendly ghosts about as well
