Hey guys,
I was just checking my blog stats which are fairly consistent at a few hundred views a day. I got a bunch of sales yesterday and I realized that Stumbleupon sent me 4000 views in one day. I am not that familiar with Stumbleupon so I don't really know what caused all of this traffic. Why did this happen and how can I make it happen more? ![]() ~Sean |

Someone stumbled your site or an article. If you got that much traffic, it was either a popular stumbler or multiple people stumbled it too.

Nice!! Ironic the name of the website as well. Considering you may have "stumbledupon" a great source.

I call that the "Stumble Surge"
It happens every once in a while with some of my articles. Unfortunately the conversions from most of those visits are few and far between - but it's fun to see your stats meter go off the board! :-) Allen |

A stumble surge can last for awhile. It's not the sharp spike and then it is mostly gone that you get from a lot of the others.
I had one that went on for about a month and the FF traffic was over 90% the whole time. IE was hardly a blip. ![]() Once it reaches a threshold level, and people start commenting or re stumbling your page, that is when it starts to really climb. They are one of the few social bookmarking sites that won't let you stumble your own site. (You can but just 15 times or so) So you have to have a page good enough to attract them all by itself, like you did already, or you can get other people to stumble something for you. There is someone offering 3 free stumbles right now in the forum right now in exchange for something or other. His forum name is nick1123. |

Am I the only one who doesn't like to get stumbled? The amount of traffic is stupid and completely messes with my metrics. I wish there was a way I could block the traffic....

Social bookmarking is great for traffic. I am fan of Digg and Stumble Upon because its my main source. Try outsourcing bookmarking for an extra boost.

I had kinda the same thing happen to me, got 1500 hits from Stumble, was a nice surprise. Wish it would happen more often.

Like someone above said though... not much in the way of conversions from all of this traffic!

I haven't had any luck with digg either. The traffic just doesn't convert to anything of value.

I had that happen to my blog. Just a personal blog, 200 visitors per day and then suddenly 3700 visitors. It seem on my blog there was the Bush's Twin's infamous beach photograph of her changing. Yahoo! carried some article on the Twins and for some reason, I had a spike in traffic.
Wish I had such spikes every day! |

Well, getting into a lot of bookmarkers mught be the way, so you get spikes from different places and all th elil bits add up. The old version of onlywire used to be good for that, but the service has changed a bit and i havent had the time to check how it works now.

The amazing thing here is that you actually converted some StumbleUpon traffic into actual sales. That's quite rare!

I got quite a few sales (nothing to write home about but a noticeable increase!)

The funniest thing about this is that the post that got stumbled is the least relevant to my niche. Better than nothing though. My email list is growing fast!
![]() Anyone know how to get featured like this? |

Glad you had good traffic from SU and more importantly sales too. Somehow for me from my experience, on occasions when I had good traffic from SU, there were no sales. I called them window shoppers or lookers no buyers. Anyway good that yours turn out well.

The kind of cool thing about SU, too, is that a post doesn't have to gain popularity within the first 48 hours or week or whatever of its life. I have a post on my personal blog that's entitled "Cybersongs - Songs about Websites" that's a little collection of YouTube videos of people singing songs they wrote about various websites - "Gotta Digg" by Kina Granis, Alana Taylor's "The Twitter Song" and "I Google You" by Amanda Palmer, stuff like that.
Anyway, every few months or so someone, or a few people, will run across it and stumble it and I'll get a whole new wave of stumble traffic to that post for a few days. Hey, I should look and see if someone has a song about Stumble Upon! haha. I could milk this thing...
