Calling all Goobers and Experts

I am a newbie and like most I have been spending all
my time reading and chasing the "latest" thing. I am
done with that and ready to take action.

I have picked a niche and done some basic research.
Google, Clickbank, ebay, keywords, etc...

Now before I rush out and spend time and money
creating a product I would like to do some initial testing
of the market to validate it will be worth my time,
money, and effort.

I am not adverse to spending a few hundred bucks to
test the market but want to go about it the right way
to quickly test a market and if it's not good then move on.

Here is my question:

What are some methods that you use to quickly
test markets to make sure it's a good/profitable
market prior to spending a significant amount
of time and money on it?

thanks in advance for everyone help,

Thomas

Just depends on what you are doing as some things in IM simmer and consistently bring in money on a residual basis...and then others blow up like fireworks and disappear quickly.

A lot of times you can test a market by looking to see what is being advertise on the side of Google...

If the ad is gone in 7 days...then it's not making them money...

Just a quick tip to help...

Are there products/services being sold to that market already?

If so, do they have affiliate programs?

Are there people targeting the buying keywords for you market via Adwords and other PPC engines?

Are there any magazines published relating to your market?

Are there many books relating to your market at the book store?

Does your market have specific problems that need to be solved?

The answer is yes to all of those questions --
however, I am thinking of marketing toward a
subset of the niche. Maybe I can be a little more
      clear in my question?

So if my overall niche is Weight Loss, maybe I would
drill down into it and go after -- Men Over 40 who
are recently divorced say as an example.

So in this example you could say yes to all of your
questions for Weight Loss but maybe the question
is more difficult and not so black and white when
you start drilling into the niche.

Maybe it's a good market or maybe it's a bust.

One thing I read that worked before the google
slap was that you could, test drive some affiliate
programs using PPC and link directly to the affiliate
programs salespage. But I don't think you can do
that anymore since your url in the ad must be
      same as the destination??

I did find some posts in the forum about writing a
salespage for a product and then on the buy button
ask to collect their email address to let them know
when the product was available. I suppose you
could do a similar thing with a squeeze page. At least it
would be less work than spending the time to write a
long sales letter for a product that doesn't even exist.
But you don't know if they are a buyer or just looking
for free content and I want to make sure the market
      has buyers.

      I do appreciate everyones comments.....

Not sure what you mean by PPC sites??

In general what are the rules when using PPC?

Am I correct in that that URL in your PPC ad must
      be for your own website?

If in this example I am using an affiliate program to
test a market to determine if I want to spend the time
to create my own product then I will need to create my
own website with a presell page and then push them to
      the affiliate sales letter?

Or can I direct link to the affiliates sales page? I thought
      you couldn't do this anymore??

      thanks for everyones help,

      Thomas
