    i have recently started an online business directory, i am doing a pre launch special at end of month, just going door to door and doing a presentation i plan to get 50 businesses then set the site live so that businesses listed then continue the sales program- i have no web experience so i need to outsource how to get traffic to my site :/ any ideas??

      I too have a directory too and i am also trying to get some businesses on my site. You can get traffic from

      Forums e.t.c

    Good luck with your business. Unfortunately business directories are more or less useless to most people. Many, many have tried to set up directories only to see them flounder.

    For the vast majority of people and businesses they google to find a company/person. It's quicker, easier and more accurate. Sorry, but just trying to save you time, money and heartache.

      This is absolutely correct. But if you have a directory with real social media follow up then people will know exactly where to find what they want. Plus a directory gives a user more choices about the business they are looking for and furthermore the businesses themselves write the information hence no inaccurate data as you suggested above.

    You can approach the businesses listed by your competitors and ask to list them.

    In exchange, ask them to put a badge or small nofollow link on their site.

    Why? After all, there's no SEO benefits here...

    Branding.

    Be the premiere BRAND in your niche and you'd be surprised as to how big your name can be in any vertical.

    You should get into a better online business model. A business directory requires alot of work and some IT maintenance. I know you're looking for an answer to your question, but i'm just giving you better advice for a different direction you should take. So you can eventually make some good money with your online efforts.
