An Interesting Marketing/Social Experiment

If you're an online marketer, your website represents one of the people selling the bracelets in this video. If your website were one of these two people, which one would it be?

This video gets even more interesting about half way through, when they try to give the homeless man an advantage over the attractive woman. Compare the second part of the experiment in the video to trying to get people to sign up to your email list in exchange for a free gift.

If you're having a hard time getting customers and email sign-ups, this video might explain why:

HAHA obviously the hot lady will win! Kiddin aside there are two things that I noticed on the video:

1.) The Price Point- The price point for the homeless man is too low, people think that It's too good to be true. Sometimes lower price point is not that good.

The lower the price point the harder to justify the value.

In marketing, regardless of how good your product is if you give it away for free people will think that it's total crap.

2.) How People See You - The Hot Girl gets more sales because she looks more legit. (aside from being hot) people think about her as someone who is not capable of doing wrong things that they feel more safe and more trusting compared to the homeless guy.

In marketing the way people see you is important, If they see you as an expert they will buy from you!

    Thanks for sharing the video!

I think that if they guy dressed up with a suit and shaved his face, he would get more ladies to come and buy more bracelets. For god's sake, he looked like a homeless person.

Many beginner marketers will also forget the credibility factor.

Yes, a girl in short skirt will get more eyeballs however this is often to the detriment of the credibility of your brand. It's fine for selling street bracelets, but if you have a design or programming service you are better served with a conservative image.

Agree 100% with comment above if they had put male in suit and tie with clean shave - different outcome.
