Need a suggestion for my aged domain.

Hello,

I'm interested in using my aged domain for Internet marketing and need some advice. My site is cursethem.com and I've had it for about six years now. I've always liked the name and never had any real use for it other than posting some game information and at one time I had good traffic for a sub domain for how to draw manga eyes.

I know there are gaming sites out there tah are doing well, and I believe my site would get some traffic because of the gaming site curse.com. I see they have moved from adsence to more of a YouTube based site. I doubt I'd be able to compete with kotaku, and I don't have the ability to create YouTube content like curse can.

For now I just have an autoblog posting some gaming information with WP robot 4 just to experiment with.

I'm currently working 40 hours a week, but there is a good probability that I along with about 500 others are about to be unemployed in six months. So I am taking a more serious look at Internet marketing.

Can anyone give me a suggestion or two for a niche for the site based on the domain name.

Thanks for any advice you can provide.

To start with, kill the autoblog. That stuff hardly works nowadays. Then, you can always share youtube content on your website if you want to make a website similar to curse.com

Looking to move onto another niche ? The age factor isn`t really a problem. You can get a great name inside any niche from godaddy auctions

    Hey Mrgoe,

Thanks for the reply! Yep the autoblog is already on the chopping block. As far as YouTube videos I can't really create them to post to my site. I'm not really moving to another niche just wanting to get started with my first real niche and looking for suggestions.

I don't want to invest anything right now because I'm still just researching so purchasing another aged domain is something for later down the road. I want to use my current domains age to my advantage and I can't see the niche for it based on the name of the domain. Any suggestions for a possible niche considering my domains name?

    Thanks again!

I hate to say it, but if you don't want to invest time and you don't want to invest money, then there is zero sense in doing anything for your site. You can't create long-term income streams off of robots and spun (or duplicate) content. Either way, you're hurting the domain more than you're helping it.

        Hey KK075,

Thanks for the reply! Let me clarify something though, what I meant by saying "I don't want to invest anything" is that I do not wish to invest financially because of Mrgroe's suggestion to purchase an aged domain from godaddy. Time, however is something that I can, and am willing to invest. The spun information that is currently on the site was little more than a passing interest on my part because I have not used them before. As I mentioned above the robot and spun information is on the chopping block.

I mentioned that I can't really do youtube videos because I cannot record the content. My computer is ok, but it wouldn't be able to record in high enough quality to compete. Also recording software is not free so that again would be a financial investment that I'm not willing to make at this time.

The financial investments are something that I will consider once I have a clear path, and a site with good content. Otherwise I'd be out of money.

      Hey Antonioseegars1,

Thanks for the reply! I have read several posts suggesting newbies stick to something they enjoy and manga/games are both things I enjoy. That is why I tinkered with creating sites with that content in the first place. I did not try to monetize the site in the past because I was mostly just putting stuff up that interested me. I've since let the site go dormant and with the potential changes to my employment I thought why not try to turn the site into something before I need to turn it into something.

I still have a big interest in both gaming and manga so I do like that direction. The competition doesn't scare me so much, but I have no youtube presence and recording videos for youtube is definitely not my strong suit.

You could start doing some videos on the cheap... using fiver or freelance, I see you don't want to spend any money yet, but sometimes you have to spend a few bucks just to get things rolling. Just a thought.

  • Agree that the autoblog content needs to go ASAP, so you stop hurting your domain. I like the name of that domain too so you can keep it in the gaming niche with fresh new content. Also, don't worry about competing with curse.com. You can still create a Youtube channel and just make generic videos with your own camera or some free software online for now, or fiverr, freelance, etc. As long as its unique content, its still better than whats on there now. You can also just park the domain somewhere that pays you like Bodis.com until you figure out what you want to do with it.

The biggest mistake you can ever make is messing with your adsense account.
The autoblog software should be disabled immediately due to plagiarism
and your content should be re-written.

    Zen,

    Just an observation.

You've got this totally backward ------> "the site based on the domain name"

Figure out the topic and model for the site - then go find a domain name.

    Hello all,

Thanks for the replies, Michael I've never tried domain parking so that's something I may look into as well. Looks like I may need to find a way to create youtube content.

Johnben I don't have adsense activated yet on my blog and won't activate it until the content is my own original content. Just put the autoblog up there as an experiment it will be gone today, thanks for the warning I'm new to this and can really use the guidance.

Steve, Thanks for the feedback, I know I should get a domain name based on my keywords or niche, then build from there. But, I've had that domain name for 6 years and was only using it for personal use. With a possible change to my employment pending I want to take a serious look at monetizing the site and am feeling out possible niches that suite the domain name.

Wasa thanks for the feedback, I've not looked at freelancer, but when I have some of my own content on the site I will definitely research that as a possible financial investment into the site.

    Thanks again!
