To Re-purpose an auction domain or not?

I'm looking for a good quality domain with built in authority. How important is it to find a domain from the same niche as what I intend to re-build the site around?

When I look at the archives of the site sometimes the domain has nothing to do with the "Majestic Main Topic" listed on Register Compass so I'm wondering if I should concern myself with that or not.

    If you're looking to completely re-brand the domain, then I don't think it's very important. If you were looking to pick the name up as another "project" in your current network of similar sites, then I would say it's more important.
