I can't figure this out - site speed

Hey,

I thought maybe someone knowledgeable can help. I'm always concerned about my sites' speeds, but one of the sites is just puzzling to me. I don't get it.

Here are the stats for the site:

- Managed dedicated server
- CloudFlare Pro Plan, fully optimized
- MaxCDN enabled
- One of the fastest WP magazine themes, with additional speed optimizations
- All possible WP speed optimizations
- Mobile optimized

I get (A) 96% on GTMetrix and (A) 92% with YSlow. Page size 2MB, requests ~110.

Why the hell is my page loading speed is 9seconds (according to GTMetrix), 5seconds according to WebPageTest and 5 seconds according to Pingdom?!!!

What's going on!? PLEASE HELP. I've done everything I could, and it's still not enough. I'm puzzled.

Are you using WordPress? If so, you might want to install the WP Optimize plugin.

Sorry, but if you'd look at the things I've already done, you can figure out that minor adjustments like WP Optimize have already been considered long time ago. Thanks for the response tho.

Do a hard reload of the page in your browser with the developer tools opened to the network tab and see where the time is being spent. F12 opens the developer tools and Ctrl-Shift-R does a hard reload in most modern Windows browsers. Repeat this a few times to look for consistent results.

2MB and 110 requests is pretty heavy but I'd be surprised if that's enough to take 5-9 seconds over a good network connection.

You need to be VERY careful with CloudFlare. A lot of options actually slow down sites -- not speed them up. CF is pretty decent these days (downtime in now rare, unlike 2012-2013), but it's not perfect. The default setting is pretty bad.

    Who is your host?
How many sites on the server?
Have you measured resources? (example: CloudLinux meters)

I would pay attention to where the test probe is coming from. You're going to get different results with different testing services, and their probe may be running from a different location that would return a different result. All of those testing services also really test for different things than one another.

How many plugins & which plugins are you using?

You can install the P3 plugin & it will show which, if any, of your current plugins may be causing bottlenecks:
