Embedding YouTube Videos Question

Hi guys

I just wanted to get some opinions on the following.

For most of us, when we want to put a YouTube Video (or Vimeo videe) into your blog, or web page, we go to YouTube and get the embed code.

The problem is when you embed the code onto your site, you have those annoying YT links embedded in the video player (which you can see in the two examples below) which allows the viewer to watch the video on YT or Vimeo

So....

1. Do you think that has any impact on bleeding visitors ( and maybe sales) from your site because they might view the video on YT or Vimeo?

2. Would you like it if there was an easy way to remove all those YT and Vimeo links from any videos you embed on your site?

3. You don't care either way, because it's not an issue for you? (at least not an issue you have tracked)

    of course this would be valuable because it would make youtube a much more viable option for video hosting. That youtube branding is inconvenient.

      Riccur are you asking if you can embed a link on the video itself? If so, you do this with annotations within youtube itself. You associate your website with your youtube channel. Then if you need to put a link on the video to a place that's not on YOUR website, you create a simple page for it on your site and do a redirect. Hope that makes sense. It's not hard but it's one of those things that sounds weird when you try to explain it.

    My opinion is, if you don't like the YT links on the player, don't use YT's content.

    Having YT links is part of the agreement for them giving you content for your site and paying for the bandwidth.

      I agree with Kurt on this one. Surely its the same or similar to including an author's resource box if you have permission to share an article. There are plenty of places you can go if you want to host your own videos and there's a reason you have to pay for that.

      Here here! Absolutely right, but also look at it this way: When visitors see the YT logo, they know the content can be trusted.

    When you embed a Youtube video, you can hide the Youtube logo if you want visitors/readers to stay on your site.

    This is the normal embed code.

    This is the modified embed code.

    xxxxxxxxxxx - Youtube video ID
    rel=0 - No related videos
    modestbranding=1 - Hide Youtube logo

    Note: 1 means enable and 0 means disable.

    EDIT: The "modestbranding=1" tag disables the Youtube logo which is shown in the first screenshot.

    I don't really believe many people click on that anyway.

    Maybe 1 - 2% of viewers.

    I agree. I don't think many people click through to Youtube using that link. Youtube has become so big that people aren't turned off to see that they host your video.

    My opinion anyways.

    "bleeding visitors" - It's not "bleeding" - The video is being hosted by YouTube. If anything, you are leeching off YouTube. They are paying for the hosting and the bandwidth. If you don't like it, then host the videos yourself and pay for the bandwidth.

    The link can take people's attention away from your page and even your content. That's the price you pay for using a free service to host your videos. You can show modest branding and no related videos afterward like was suggested above by nizamkhan.

    But your page stays open. The watch on youtube link opens in another window. So you're not actually losing these people per se. It sounds like you're researching a market for a solution you have?

    Once a video has begun playing, if it is interesting enough, people won't click on the youtube icon, they will want to watch it 'till the end. So, it's not much of a problem, IMO.

    The only time I click on the youtube logo is if I want to watch the video in fullscreen mode and the site doesn't have full screen enabled.

    Simple solution - use Youtube for content that you want to share with your community (that's what Youtube is for!)

    When you have private video content, use your own player and host it on Amazon or your own website - you can get player code as part of many WP theme packages (ex Optimize Press 2) or as part of specific player software packages such as Easy Video Player and then host the video on Amazon for pennies.

    Honesty. I will go with number 3. Most people know it's a youtube video on a blog. Helps with bounce rates on sites. People watch videos longer, than reading text. That is proven..

    I wouldn't say most people really care. It may take away some visitors if they leave your website, but if that's the case they probably weren't looking for much anyways. But the opposite also holds true with getting traffic from Youtube. People can find your video and Youtube and get to your website that way. So I think it's a fair relationship. Your duty with your website is to figure out how to capture that visitor once they get there. There are many ways marketers do that these days. Learn the best way to design your site to capture a lead as soon as possible.

      I go with #3. I don't think there's any need for #2 I don't think #1 is a real issue. I suspect you're wanting to find out if there's interest in #2 i.e.an easy way to remove the link. My feeling is that there's little interest and therefore little market. Could be wrong

    I think if you know how to combine youtube and jwplayer with your own branding, you will not see any yt or vimeo url.
