Can I make money by posting other peoples valuable content?

For example, say I am constantly reading high quality articles, and I retweet them on twitter. And my twitter account grows because I always put high quality content... is that a way to make some money?

Also can I reblog other peoples blog posting as long as I credit them and link them back to their site... is that a way I can monetize a website?

Tweeting links to interesting content is fine and encouraged. Reblogging "other peoples blog posting," however, is intellectual property theft and will not be profitable whatsoever.

If you want to earn a real income through content marketing, you'll need 100% unique content that was created by you and only you.

If you post on your site by describing the link of valuable content, you can make money, but you have to make lots of effort for finding contenting, categorizing them and putting your own thought and doing your own website SEO, finding related products or use Adsense as well.

So you are curating content? Why not build a newsletter? The newsletters I'm subscribed to are mostly of that kind. Then you could think of recommending some affiliate products now and then or have some adsense or whatever. Just don't annoy people and I'm sure you're fine.

Interesting question generating some awesome replies --- thank you everyone.
Your best bet is to get yourself a mentor. I tried for years at vast expense until I realized I needed a mentor --- someone to tell me what to do, and show me how to do it.
When you decide which niche you want to work in, a mentor in that niche will tell you what to write, and where to find original content that you can tailor to your needs.

The one thing you do need to realize is that ANYTIME you add someone else's article to your website, you will need to add their resource box with a link linking to their website.

You would be better off if you wrote your own content and added that content there instead of putting other people's articles.

Plus, it looks more professional to your readers/visitors that you are an authority because you wrote that content yourself.

Retweeting is okay but reblogging is a big NO! NO!
If you want the idea of a certain content then write your own.
Maybe adding a little something that is not discussed on the content or putting your own opinion will do.

Other content not yours. So you must have an different unique content that people will be much appreciate from your content. When i see content advertising as a reciprocal change associated with benefit in between business and consumer, and the better this kind of reciprocal change of value benefit, the more money is manufactured and the far more great is done in the world. A lot of the greatest companies in the world are delegating bigger prices to information advertising and information technique. But that’s most properly and great. You recognize the best way to earn money as a result of your articles advertising strategies.

I agree that unique content is very important. But maybe you don't know how to create it.
I think a lot of people fall into the trap of thinking they have to invent something completely new to call it unique content. This is just not true. You could write overview articles or regular recaps. Here are two links for your inspiration:
    Data Elixir
    O'Reilly Radar
Maybe these are not subjects you're interested in, but I'm sure you get the idea. Should be quite easy to do that in your niche if you're really interested in your stuff.

Posting other content or articles is fine in my opinion, it can help you grow your community but I would suggest creating your own quality content. You need something interesting that will keep people on your page, since they can easily find all those articles of others by themselves. If you only post others content, you aren't really boosting your page, you're in a way promoting someones else's stuff and that's not a really good thing if you want to expand your business.

No, it's NOT fine. It's NOT okay to use other people's content without obtaining proper permission. PERIOD.

Why do people not understand this???

If you're getting the content from a site like EzineArticles, where the TOS allows you to use the content as long as you include the author's resource box, that's one thing. BUT, you can't just start reposting content you find in general without permission from either the author, or whoever owns the copyright to the content (which may be the site owner and not the author, unless of course the site owner stole it as well).

Honestly, some of the responses in this thread are just pathetic. YOU CAN'T JUST STEAL OTHER PEOPLE'S CONTENT AND MONETIZE IT.

If the OP wants to tweet links to articles, that's one thing. But this:

Also can I reblog other peoples blog posting as long as I credit them and link them back to their site... is that a way I can monetize a website?
...is not okay!!! You can't just use (i.e. "reblog" in this case) other people's content even if you credit them, without their permission.

Stop being lazy, cheap, unethical marketers!! Write your own content, hire someone else to write it, or make the effort to obtain proper permission to use content that interests you. But don't just steal it and assume that "crediting the author" makes it okay.

It IS pathetic and there are far too many threads like this now. If you can't be bothered to write your own content - or hire it written - get a job.

It's this "anything goes if it's easier for me" attitude that is responsible for the growing pile of crap online. If you insist on contributing to that pile...at least don't advocate it here.

You can tweets links to that particular Site that has useful info.

But you CANNOT , without permission from the Author, copy and then tweet that actual material. Even if you copy and then put a link at bottom going to Source, it is still disallowed if you do not first have Author's permission !!

However, there is a great way to get traffic, just by sharing other people's articles. It's a great, and free,
    software called Snip.ly

It allows you to Iframe articles, and attach urls to them, which gets you traffic

You should either start thinking about writing your own content or just retweet other people's tweets and leave it at that! using other people's content is not OK! It's literally stealing, even if you credit them with a link, it's not ok ( I mean, would you like it is people stole your own ideas to post on their own website? I think not!)

Let's say I steal your car, paint it a different color, and change the license plate. Is it okay if I drive it, as long as I leave your name on the title?

And before someone carps that I'm way over the top, I'll put it this way, in short, simple words:

      Stealing is stealing.

If you want to see how to use other peoples' content ethically, check out some of the big sports blogs, like sbnation.com. They mention and link to other peoples' content all the time. Many posts are basically a collection of links. Sometimes they'll use a paragraph or so (a few sentences), but always with an accompanying link. They seem to do okay with traffic and even search (try "Adrian Peterson trade rumors") and count the number of blogs on the first couple of pages.

One thing you will not find is people copying complete articles, credited or not.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Reblogging other people's content could be frowned upon and downright could be considered stealing. An easier way is to do link roundups on your own blog but before even thinking about doing that, ask the creators if it's okay to do so. Doing link roundups is a good way to cross promote other people's content around one topic that you're providing on your site.

But if it were me personally I wouldn't keep posting link roundups since I think most people would get sick of it after awhile. Remember the purpose of a blog is to provide value to your audience and in return they'll subscribe or buy from you since you'll have their trust. Just my two cents.

I should have also mentioned that the big blogs I mentioned make most of their revenue from advertising - aka generating page views. The value these daily link roundups provide is putting the "important" (interesting) stuff into one post and allowing busy fans like me to keep up with my favorite teams in a few minutes instead of dredging through pages of serps.

Another thing I should have mentioned is that these blogs usually have multiple authors posting their own unique content along with the roundups.

One email format I've used that should translate well to blogs is my newsletter format. In its simplest form, there is a short "from the publisher" intro, a current article or two of my own, and a "best of the rest" section with links to other content. The newsletter goes out weekly or biweekly.

    Adventureman89,

Why not embed Dailymotion videos, Youtube videos and creative commons content materials, specifically those that can be used commercially without attribution?

If you sign up as a Dailymotion Publisher, then you can embed Dailymotion videos with your syndication key, specifically Dailymotion videos with ads, in order to earn a share of ad revenues generated from views on your embedded Dailymotion videos ...

You can embed Dailymotion and Youtube videos and just write your ideas, comments and opinions about the content of those videos ---
You'll be providing relevant content to your viewers, while the authors of those Youtube videos will continue to earn ad revenues from views on those embedded videos ...

You can also add creative commons content materials like photos, other video clips, audio content and so on to your posts, specifically those that can be used commercially without attribution ---
You can improve the overall presentation value of your posts by doing this ...

Another option is editing PLR content to integrate what your target audience wants and your character and personality into your posts ...

    Too much work, huh?

You need to have a unique content if you wish to attract people to your blog. Re blogging can be done sometimes that too if you have taken permission from the owner of the original article as some articles are not for republication even if you mention the due credits. So its always safe to take permission beforehand as you would not want to get into a mess

Exactly - had to be worded right for people to jump in and say "yes, that's fine"....of course they don't know what they are talking about....but it's the answer the OP wants...so...

What I don't understand is why other "marketers" who claim to have "experience" would participate in excusing this "business behavior". I understand it from newbies and sig spammers but I'd have nothing to do with any person working online who thinks posting work product of others (without permission) is acceptable! I don't much care how they excuse it.

Content curation is Ok.There is no problem with it.Content syndication or aggregation is bad.If you see the blogs of even the best internet marketers. you will find curated content there. So, there is nothing wrong with it as long as you are crediting the original poster, just be sure to add your secret sauce to it.

You need to have unique content on your blog. It has to be written in your own voice so you can brand yourself as You.Inc. If you want to get more traction, then you may want to consider doing a roundup of a few pro bloggers. But you must ask their permission and then notify them when you post your blog. Many bloggers will jump at the chance to be featured. There is no quick fix, it does take time being a blogger. Just keep that in your mindset and do the best you can.

What I recommend is reading a blog post and then summarizing it in your own words. If you're just posting other people's content then you're not really branding yourself you're just promoting for other people. Quoting other people every now and then is fine, but to do it on a daily basis, is not the best way to brand yourself as a leader.

Most of the time, this is not something someone would want you to do without his/her permission, even when you link back to the original post.

However, some platforms like WordPress Reader do have an option for re-blogging, in which case it won't be a problem.

When you post other people's valuable content, you can make money on this when you include promoting affiliate offers to your readers or twitter followers.

This will work when by posting other people's valuable content, you get a large following on twitter and then from that you try to post affiliate offers to your followers and that.. when some of them click on your tweets that bears your affiliate link and buys the offer/product/service that you endorse, you get credited with a commission. You may have to start as an affiliate with networks like cj.com or clickbank.com

You can reblog other people's blog postings as long as the owner allows it on their Terms of Use. You can not simply monetize a website by doing it this way, you got to make a website that people will want to visit and then sell your own products or other people's products in there or sell advertising space to other advertisers.
