Can You Honestly Say You Don't Lie/bend the truth EVER

Hi Guys,

Lately there was a thread about some company being fined for publishing false reviews on line.

I think it was about face-lifts and because the consequences of those actions can hugely detrimentally affect people's lives, thankfully that came to a halt.

However, that thread brought up the subject of ethical marketing and "bending the truth".

I'm sorry if this sort of thread has been done to death but I just want to get a few opinions on this matter.

When I started Im'ing last year I bought a good few ebooks to read and learn and every single one of them encouraged writing reviews. To be fair a high % said to buy the product first then review, but some didn't.

The thing that gets me is, even if I do buy the product (which I have for a few of my niches), what if you don't really need the product, say it's a health niche, how could you give a genuine review? You wouldn't know if it was going to do the job or not, not really.

The other thing that gets me in IM, is the sales letter. I've read many sales letters and they never exactly give an perfectly honest, unbiased description of the product. I'm not saying all, but many just say it is the best thing ever and they can't be sure that it's the truth.

I am now questioning if there is a way to do IM that is completely honest in every aspect. Everything I have done so far has had a wee element of making the product sound better than it is and I thought I was just creating a good sales pitch, and kind of got lost in what I was doing to try to get it right. Now I'm thinking maybe I am not an honest person.

If I continue to feel this way, I am going to have to give it up. I am a health professional and only want to help people, not give them false promises on any level whatsoever. I don't feel that I am doing that per se at the moment but maybe if I become "better" at IM I will.

(I'm not saying that those that are great marketers are, just worried that because of the way I have learned I might)

Sorry this is becoming epic....

I know I'm probably sounding like an overly sensitive wuss but I just want to feel that my IM antics are all good.

So, in terms of an affiliate, do you think great sales letters/pitches/overly attractive reviews are ok as long as you have purchased the product and you have heard the product has been helping people with a particular problem thus far?

Cheers
