Site with potential. Next reasonable steps?

Hey Warriors,

I have accidently created a niche site for a, appearantly still much loved, game. Accidently because since i "kickstarted" it about 2 months ago, there basically always are somewhere between 15 and 30 people on it. Resulting in some Adsense earnings around $10/day.

It has some registration only features what led to 1'500 users, where 700 agreed to get a newsletter (where i have done nothing with yet). Also those users generate content, probably poor ones, but at least very regulary.

The site is somewhat strongly optimated. It scores nice in Google Pagespeed Insights, is perfectly responsive on any devices (read: bootstrap), and usually is very fast loading with a very low error rate. It also features all the fancy things like og:tags and schema.org.

At this point it is just going on like this. It does not really decrease and does not really grow. I post on Facebook and Twitter all few days (not that much followers yet) and on reddit every other week when i change something bigger on the site. The latter always results in a x1.5 to x2 visitor increase for about 30 hours.

Facebook ads didnt work at all for me (high costs and high bounce rate).

Also my competitors mostly are doing this for at least 1 year and rank therefore (also trough many natural backlinks trough youtube and therelike) always before me on the interesting keywords.

I hope this is enough information to get some ideas, i would love to hear some opinions about what my next steps should/could be.

Why not create some email swipes/newsletter to your 700 members giving them tips on the game and provide an affiliate link for a product in your niche from clickbank or similar where you can generate a commission when they purchase. Find or create your own pdf/video products based on your niche and sell them to your list also. You could also do some research into some other sites in your niche that collect email addresses and ask to do a solo ad with them to drive some traffic to your site and possibly gain more members to your list.

  • Are there any great affiliate offers in your niche?
    Have you checked?

If yes, then start promoting these.
If not, then there might be potential for you creating a product/service

Well if your site is about playing a free game or something, i suggest you search for related game CPA offers, and add a follow up in your autoresponder giving away free games.

A lot of money to be made for you in the near future

    Definitely leverage your list.

A list is great for instant traffic and repeat visitors. Send them to new content, good content they may have missed and monetized content.

It's also great for sending traffic to CPA offers, YouTube videos and affiliate offers.

You should have an automated sequence set-up so everyone who signs up gets introductory information and your newsletter should be published regularly.

Are you using an autoresponder like Aweber?

There is a lot of information about list building if that fits with your business model.

Not sure if you guys are just all totally focused on E-Mail marketing or i am really missing on the most important part. But all your suggestions so far were great! Thanks a lot!

YouTube is not really a option for me. I can safely say my niche is the most oversaturated market on youtube, with so many professional people already in it, its nearly laughable.. This also makes ebooks and therelike hard as there really, really are to many people already around delivering the niche with awesome free tuturials and guides.

On the other side, a lot of those people started using my site and refering to it on youtube, so maybe this is a non issue anyway.

I had no luck with direct affilates yet. I replaced about 15% of my ads with really nice Amazon offers, but there is even less interaction than i have with Adsense (what i dont understand at all).

But you told me enough to have a few steps in planning:
      • Replace Disqus with own comments = more registrations, possibly
      • Making cute auto emails in registration and feedback processes.
      • Setting up a proper newsletter and actually using it.
      • Updating features on my site in order to have reasons for emails = returning visitors
      • Look out for some fitting CPA offers.
      • Make contests as soon as i have a reasonable social media followership.

      Again thanks a lot!

Are there also any ideas about SEO in general? I mean my competitors are basically still all in front of me in Google.

I tried getting some good Backlinks with Feverr but i refused the first 2 offers because that was simply bad spam. I guess when i give this some time and just do like written above i will go in front some day anyway, but i would love to push that process.
