This is my 3rd thread in 1 hour, help again?

+Haha, this will be my third published thread in an hour here on WF!

But my spouse just came to me with a portrait of her that her friend drew.

And my God it looked exactly like her! Then it hit me:

Isn't it possible to create a website about drawing human faces tutorials, either as a membership site, online course or just video training series?

The idea would be that she (her friend) draws a bunch of portraits and I go over the steps on how to do it or at least improve your drawing skills in a voice-over? (She's incredibly shy and would never dream of recording her voice)

Just a thought, dunno if it's a good idea or not!

Yes and there are tons of them. "How to Draw" is a good niche.

Caricatures and portraits are very popular. Check out fiverr for lot's of gigs that do this.

You tube is great for instruction and traffic. Just search for things like "How to draw a horse", "How to draw a car", "How to draw a Ferrari car","How to make a self portrait", etc.

Like every other niche you need to do research to find a USP and check competition.

There are several affiliate programs for "How to draw"

Artists have talent. To assume that anyone could take a course and quickly become as proficient as the instructor would be a mistake.

You could take a course on learning to play the piano too. But musicians have talent that is typically learned through continual practice.

Sure, you could build a web site with tutorials . . . but how much value can that be? Certainly some - but most students will be disappointed with the product because their drawings won't look anything like your friends'. I would love to be able to draw, but after many, many repeated efforts, I don't seem to have any talent at all in this field.

Sure it is possible. You would research your domain name, purchase it new or if you can find an expired one with a few backlinks credited to it and then use wordpress to create your site, do some keyword research to find some good keyword phrases with little competition, wite 20 good unique quality 700-1000 word articles and drip feed them once a week all the while writing one more article a week for continuous content in your blog or pages.

If your spouse's friend just want to make some money then send her to fiverr where she can sell her work based on demand from potential clients in that network. Good Luck.

    Hey Karl-

I think the problem is that you're still in "daydream" mode where you're looking at ideas and trying to figure out whether or not there's a way to monetize them. Before seeing the first through all the way, you're off to the next project. That's a sure-fire way to not make money.

Didn't we just have like five threads on the psychology of marketing and how excited you were about that? That's where 100% of your focus should be until it's producing solid revenue. Because the idea part is easy; implementing it effectively over time is the real challenge.

    Karl,

    Here are some ideas:

    • A "how to draw" membership program for kids 6 to 12 years old ...

    • You can offer beginner, intermediate and expert modules via this membership program ...

    • Each module can have entertaining and easy to understand videos, simple to follow guides with photos / images, practice sets and a form that each kid fills out after completing a practice set in each section of the module (so they can write about the things that they learned, certain areas where they had difficulties with, their suggestions to improve sections of the module and so on) ...

    • Sponsor contests where you post the final practice set work of each kid under each module, and all kids get prizes for their effort -- You can even structure this in a way that compels their parents, other relatives and friends (of both kids and their parents) to engage with your Facebook page and other social accounts (contest entry votes via likes, shares, tweets and so on) ...

    • Think of next level modules that you can offer kids who have already completed the expert module (for continuity), as well as additional in-between modules for kids who aren't quite ready yet for the next module ...

    • Promote your membership course to parents who want their kids to do entertaining and worthwhile activities at home, most likely to keep their kids busy while they're doing some work and household chores ...

    • Promote your membership course across social networks, in Youtube and other online places where kids and their parents hang out ...

    • Promote relevant affiliate products, such as educational toys, educational video games, art kits and so on (and even parenting-related products to their parents) ...

Karl, I think you are starting with all this from the wrong end!

Don't follow the general advice from the many wanna-be marketers who never made much money online themselves, to just "follow your passion and the money will follow". It's rubbish!

If your main goal is to make money, it is much easier to enter a proven niche or category that you already know is profitable, rather than to try and come up with a brand new product based on "brainstorming" or just a thought that "this sounds like fun".

Investigate the most profitable categories online, (if you don't know what these are start by researching this first!), and THEN you can start thinking about what gaps might exist in those larger categories, and in what niches you could potentially have an interest and provide value. Don't let competition scare you, the fact that there is competition generally means there is money to be made!

I am not saying that you have to focus on something that is of no interest to you, (although I have personally made millions from "boring categories" like insurance and loans for example), but by following the money you are at least not trying to create a new market where a profitable market might not exist!
