10 minute workweek? How I made TONS of money online, lost it all, and got back on top.

I joined the Warrior Forum back in January 2008. I had some incredible success as a result of stumbling upon some excellent threads where I was able to learn the two most important principles in internet marketing: 1. Finding a niche and 2. Having a product that the solves a problem within the niche.

I started out by selling ebooks on eBay, which went very well until the platform banned the sale of non-physical goods. Genius move!

I then got a job working for a t-shirt printing shop in my town. I re-built their website so that it made a lot of sales and they became an overnight success. I then went into the t-shirt printing business for myself, in a different town. My website soon outperformed bricks & mortar shop sales, and I left the UK to live in Budapest, Hungary where I enjoyed a "10 minute workweek" lifestyle (Tim Ferriss would be proud) earning a considerable income and partying like a badass.

Then one day, around 2 years ago, Google did a thing and sent my website from page 1 to page 7-8 overnight. No warning, no explanation. Turned out that their algorithm detected "doorway pages" on my site (no such thing existed on my site, so their machine made a mistake). I appealed, I received an automated response and my search ranking wasn't re-instated. I had to close the business, all of my staff lost their jobs, and I became broke and homeless.

However, in the meantime I was learning about an area of interest that really appealed to myself, that of attracting women. At first, I went down the whole "pickup artist" route, and although I had some considerable success with that, I found it fake and unfulfilling. I learned a lot about myself that time and came to understand man-to-woman interactions in a whole new way.

I started coaching. I taught men how to develop their self-esteem and social skills so that they could bring women into their lives in a very natural way, without using any gimmicks, tricks or manipulation tactics. Then, a year later, I started to blog on this subject.

I created an ebook which I sell for $10 and immediately began to sell a lot of copies. I now write roughly 1-2 blog posts per week. I have 50 posts on my blog already, and I've sold multiple live coaching courses as a result of people finding my blog via google and/or related facebook groups.

It's a business model that works and I urge anybody who is wondering where to begin with this whole "making money online" thing to start a blog. You don't even need to be an expert in any particular topic.

For example, you could decide one day that you're going to be the "Free Range Chicken King". Start keeping chickens, and write about your experiences. Experiment with different feeds for the chickens, and write about that. Build your own chicken coop/house, whatever it's called that they live in, and write about how you did that. Find "chicken keeping hacks" that make things easier. Build a following. Lots of photos and good quality content that other chicken-keeping enthusiasts will be interested in. Egg recipes. Hey, even chicken recipes!

In time, you'll have enough knowledge to write an ebook. Doesn't have to be a huge one. "How to start keeping happy chickens, for beginners".

Charge $10 for it so that everybody can afford it. Post links to your best blog posts in related facebook groups. Post photos on pinterest, instagram, facebook, twitter. Get people interested in the idea of keeping chickens for the first time.

You'll make sales.

Apply this to any niche. As long as it's something that helps people and enriches their lives, you'll find success.

Very interesting. Thank you for the share.

I see more and more people talking about the Chicken Niche. Never in a million years would I have
    thought lol

Also, nice to hear someone actually approaching the 'men pursuing women' market without the sleazy emphasis on getting laid and one night stands

Mostly, it's a part of a larger niche called 'urban farming'. People worried about things like GMOs, pesticides, antibiotics and such in their food. People who want to be green and encourage sustainable agriculture. Along with a smattering of survivalists and preppers.

      Very passionate about the subject.

The "chicken niche"....... not a niche I would have EVER thought of when i started out some 15 years ago. Hell, not a niche I would have thought of 5 years ago.

However, it's a niche that's become viable. Look at what's trending because trending can create niches. What's trending right now (and shows no signs of slowing down) is organic food and gardening.

"Playing chicken" (we will call it that!) is a very vibrant sub-sector of that market (folks looking at organic dietary alternatives and gardening).

I am not one of those all natural organic types - at all. But, I got suckered into building a chicken coup and raising chickens. I actually like it.

To learn how to do that, I researched the subject and that included BUYING information from those who had it available.

It's an "up and coming" niche and though I'll SAY I'm far too busy to entertain starting yet another "niche centric" business...... am I?

Not sure. As I type this, I'm sorta talking myself into it!

As for the OP...... nice story. I think you'll agree when I say that what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger (and wiser). Nice come up.

I had a HUGE business that became unstable in the "late recession of 2007" and to say the house of cards came down would be an understatement. The failure was one of spectacular magnitude. But, I came back just as you did because at the end of the day, that's what entrepreneurs do.

Don't look at it as losing it all...... rather, you've graduated to a "sergeant" in business. Keep earning those stripes.

Well we can't just rely on Google. I've seen many 5 & 6 figure [earners] who lost their business' overnight because they were only relying on Google.

    Chicken? Well what ever works.

Thanks for sharing your interesting story.

So I've got an eBook coming out soon, do you recommend that I make blog posts on the same subject that recommend the eBook at the end of each blog post, then post them to social media to generate traffic?

Thanks! Very inspirational story. It's better to write an ebook than blog post, the next day you might get slap by Google. Google is very unpredictable.

encouraging story and thanks for the share. I too have experienced a very successful website on the top of Google for extremely competitive keywords only to lose it over night. But I never gave up and there is always another, better way of doing things. I don't put all my traffic budgeting into one basket. So if I lose ranking today, I will still have plenty of traffic coming in.

Cool story...I wish more people would share like this. And I'm very curious what your name is now since I've worked extensively in that niche as a copy writer.

You sort of danced around why you had success though; it wasn't really the niche or the product. It was how you built an honest reputation and made people believe in you. And that's really the entire secret to any niche...being as genuine as possible and taking an interest in solving real problems.

Great title. No one could resist clicking on it.

Great read, too. It's refreshing to come across posts that reminds you about the power simplicity and focus. The key point was in the last line about how helping others and enriching their lives is the way to success.

A solid method, and one I use myself. Quality share, OP. On another note: If I were you, I'd forget Google and reinstate your old businesses, but use alternative means of traffic generation. Would be a shame to turn away from a successful business model just because - yet again - Big Brother, excuse me, Big G made a mistake. I do a fair trade myself in the T-Shirt market, just by using social networks and a combination of providers like TeeSpring.
