Review Site - Does this make sense?

Hi Guys,

I'm going to be building a review site and I've just completed my keyword research but I just want to ask the more experienced among us whether this makes sense.

Now, the search term I'm really going after ('product + reviews') gets 5,400 a month and the SEO competition is very weak so I'm really confident I can rank - this is my main 'money term'.

Then there's the individual product reviews, which I'm confident I can rank for too.

Now I don't want this website to be seen as JUST a review site - I want my visitors to see it as a really helpful resource too.

But here's the issue - related, more informational keywords are really quite competitive and I doubt very much whether I'll be able to rank at all.

Should this worry me?

I mean, my 'money terms' appear easy, so my thinking is that I'll still fill the site with really great content to enhance the my visitors experience and so it's not just a 'review site' and not worry too much about where the traffic for the related content comes from.

Does this make sense?

Thanks

Ben

If the money keyword has 5,400 a month searches with weak competition I would just go for it. If you can get near the top of page 1 for that keyword, you can expect around 1000 visitors a month. Plus long term you may start ranklng for the related keywords too,, which is just an added bonus.

You'll be able to build a decent business out of that search term if the competition is indeed weak.

Just remember to always publish quality content that your target audience can truly appreciate. Do this and the proper SEO and you should be fine!

      Good luck!

  • It's all about quantity of reviews.

If a search term is getting 5000 + visitors per month. Then, don't expect to get that, even if you rank at the top.

Just go for it, you can easily rank with the right SEO.

      Hey Ben,
It really sounds like you are on the right track.

5,400 should not be a huge feat.
And the fact that you are really looking to make this Site user friendly and full of useful content on top of this really sets you apart from the regular crowd here...just to be perfectly frank

    Ben,

I would just go for it and see what happens.

People can give you advice but the best advice you will get is whether you are getting results or not.

Write the review and then wait 1-2 weeks. You might even get results sooner then that.

How did you measure SEO competition?

allintitle:keyword is a solid way as it shows how well the page is optimized for a particular keyphrase.

As a rough guide, anything under 5000 is viable. However as Google takes so many ranking factors into account nowadays, the best thing to do is to go ahead and try. If you can build up some momentum it may help you rank for other more competitive phrases later.

If the competition is that weak but still gets that much search traffic, just go for it. That's the only way to know for sure. However, once you're able to rank for longer-tail keywords, that will help you get traffic from the more competitive ones. The search engines will look at your site and think that "if this site is ranking for this longer-tail keywords, it must be important for those looking for these more competative ones since they are all related." Does that make sense?

If the search volume is good with low competition, product reviews will work great. Just focus on your content and the rest will follow
