What makes a squeeze page convert

We all know squeeze pages are a great way of collecting the details of individuals and building the 'list' that everybody talks about. However I thought it would be useful to start a resource of what attracts us to put in our details in a squeeze page.

What I'm talking about is not the theory of what is supposed to work well, but out real world experiences of what works to get us to put our details into a squeeze page.

I'll start by giving you the top things that will get me to add my details to a squeeze page:

1. A good headline that seems to offer an answer to a problem I have got.
2. A headline that doesn't offer something that sounds just too good to be true.
3. Not too much information on the page (I admit I'm lazy )
4. Not too little information on the page. I want to at least know a little about what I'm signing up for.

So let's hear the things you like and dislike (remember no theory, just your gut feelings when seeing a page) and help each other with our squeeze page designs.

tools. any squeeze page giving away tools or list of tools works for me both when subscribing and collecting emails. people love tools because we all think better tools equals better results.

    1. Good graphics, i mean no poor design and no fireworks, just in the middle, you know.
    2. Give specific information

ONE word... and this is guaranteed to work.

But, before I mention it, NOTHING beats real data. All you can do is guess at what your market wants, but only the numbers will factually tell you if they want it.

Also, you can learn from major companies that do split testing and tell you the winning landing page based on real data. Two great companies are:

    marketingexperiments.com
    visualwebsiteoptimizer.com

And, lastly, the ONE thing that will get people take action, especially click, is CURIOSITY (so powerful it literally kills cats and people).

Absolutely couldn't agree more, that's why I was looking for what attracts us real people as a guide (as apposed what we think works). This can then help people to have a starting point with their designs before going into the 'design - test - tweak'process

Already seen a couple of comments that have interested me - thanks. I'm sure people have more pet loves/hates that attract/repel them to/from a squeeze page.

Here's what works from my experience:

    1. Your lead magnet promises one specific results. And only one.

    2. The submit button is above the fold.

    3. Your squeeze page must not distract the visitor from the action you want him to do.

    Hi,

I feel being clear on your page is huge. Like, it has to feel good to you, the page, and the message you're conveying. For years - when I worked different niches than my current one - I never felt fully clear on my capture pages. I felt too salesy in building certain ones that were hyped up, then when I went in a different direction, I had not enough showmanship I thought. I never found the happy medium in these niches because I wasn't clear on my niche, so naturally, I flubbed things up lol!

After picking my current niche I did a few things; I took a gazillion selfies of myself in paradises all over the world and I got so clear on my pages that I kept things super simple, offering value, and clarity and I convert at a better rate than ever. So many folks try like hell to convert, and a few, get super clear on their niche, feel awesome about it, and create clear, simple squeezies that convert really, really well. Do that clarity finding session. Find a niche that works so well for you, that you're pretty detached from outcomes,

I will have to second the fact that you must be totally clear and straight to the point of the benefits your Lead magnet will give them.

Don't just say it will make you successful or some general jargon !

Have specific points of what your gift or Course will give them. i.e will it give them the tools they will need to have their business up and running in 2 weeks etc..etc..

Lead capture pages need to be simple, straight forward and grab your visitors attention. Your SUBMIT Button is also very important.

Colors and graphics need to give out an certain type of energy (that matches your offer).

And every lead capture page must be congruent with your ad. If it isn't, your visitors will get disconnected and leave your page.

In the end, finding the 'perfect' capture page may be a daunting task.

You have just got to go with the best you think you have and keep tweaking until it starts performing.

Real life data is the only way to test and get results.

I find that it has to be a good match for the AUDIENCE and what they want.
Preferably one thing that's at the top of their mind, and that seems realistic.

If they're promised too much, chances are the product is going to be too vague
      and therefore disappointing.

I like the one problem one solution principle. Preferably phrased as a strong promise that also raises curiosity.

I use several things on my squeeze pages that I don't see many people using that increased my conversion rates.

I always add a tag line at the very top of the page. The purpose is to give the lead magnet more value. It may say something like this...

WARNING: "Article Writer's Cheat Sheet" Will Not be FREE for Long...

Then I have a good headline. Then I always list 4 or 5 benefits they will receive from the lead magnet.

Just above the sign up form I have the following to continue increasing the value...

We are selling this report here for $7. But you can get it FREE if you act now!

Enter your name and address below and we'll rush your "Article Writer's Cheat Sheet" to your email inbox...

The word "here" is a hyperlink that when clicked takes the viewer to PayPal to pay $7 for the report. So they can see that I actually sell the report. But they can get it free by filling out the form.

I also put a button at the bottom of the page that says "Learn More". When the visitor clicks the "Learn More" button an alert window opens with the following message...

To learn more, please fill out your name and e-mail address in the form provided above.

This brings the visitors attention back to the main purpose of the squeeze page and that is to get the visitor to subscribe to your list.

I hope this has been helpful,

      Hi Steve

Some interesting points for people to consider. I just wondered with regards to listing the benefits I have found consistently that a squeeze page with a catchy headline alone out performs one with benefits listed. Therefore , I just wondered if you had done any split testing with your pages and how the type of squeeze page you describe here compares with a more 'standard' page?
