I'm brainstorming for some content ideas and was wondering what topics you think are currently controversial within the fields of SEO, SEM, social marketing, digital entrepreneurship, and affiliate marketing?

Are there any controversial topics, or does everyone pretty much get along these days?

He, he .... In a perfect world everyone gets along, but even in the online world a debate is just a click away.
    • There's always the SEO is Dead or Dying vs. The SEO is The End All Be All Debate.
    • The Build A List First vs. Build A Niche Debate.
    • Affiilate Marketing (Because it's easier) vs. Create Your Own Product (And keep More profits) Debate.
    • The Just Take Action vs. Analyze Thoroughly Before Acting Debate.
    • The Social Media (drain on resources with no way to measure ROI compared to direct sales marketing) vs. Social media best thing since sliced bread Debate.
    • The Search Engine Marketing (Fastest Way To Get Traffic/ Money Online) vs. Search Engine Marketing (Fastest Way To Lose Traffic/Money because of constant Google algorithm changes.
    And more. Whew!

You name the marketing subject and there's probably a heated or quiet debate going on between what's the best way, what's better, what's dead or dying, what only works under certain conditions, and what'll happen next year. So, take your pick. You may even hear some debates in this thread you started.

      Fantastic response.

I was a bit confused as to the "build a list vs build a niche" debate. What would the two sides look like in that discussion?

Good question. One of the most popular sayings around Internet Marketing circles and among Guru's and seasoned vets is "The Money is In The List". It makes sense because ...

        • It helps you have a more predictable income.
        • Saves you from having to constantly solicit new prospects (extremely expensive and time-consuming).
        - And -
        • It's an effective way to build deeper relationships with your customers and prospects (a must for long-term success).
Plus, a host of other benefits too many to mention here.

        Vs.

"The Money is In The Niche" because ...

        • A niche must first be established in order to build a targeted list (most profitable kind).
        • Having a niche makes your marketing, advertising and list more effective, productive and profitable.
        • Most successful brick and mortar businesses and many online businesses don't have list, but they All have a Strong Niche - without exception.

That's basically what the debate looks like.

Get your leads from Social Media and do not fool with conventional Email Marketing

Everyone has their own opinions and there will always be disagreements. Sometimes I will respond to threads here in the forum and there will always be someone who disagrees with me. This is normal in my view.

We all get along pretty well but again, people will always have disagreements with each other and tell each other to their "face".

Instead of GUESSING what you think would gain traction, simply REVERSE ENGINEER your competition.

Just go to QUICKSPROUT and enter your competition's domains.

    Find their most viral content.

    Come up with your version.

    Test on Reddit's subreddit system.

If it gains traction, share with people who shared your competitor's content.

    How?

Use Topsy to find your competitor links' top sharers.

    Rinse and repeat.
