Is it advisable to charge customers $1 / month?

I have always been using PayPal as my payment solution which charges an arm and a leg for a $1 / month subscription, nearly a half, $0.44 will be counted as the fee for each payment (I'm not a US merchant).

I guess the only option left for me is my own credit card payment gateway? But I've never used one before so I'm not sure of the fees. Can anyone share some experience on this?

Would it be advisable to charge my customers a $1 / month subscription via credit card? What's fee per payment? Or is it more advisable to charge $12 / year?

There will be fees associated with the credit card transaction but most of them are a % so it doesn't matter what frequency you use.

In my opinion the more you can space payment, the better it is. If someone see your 1$ charge every month, he needs to re-justify is purchase every month. If you can make him only re-justify it 1/year your cancellation rate will probably drop dramatically.

  • I think PayPal has a micropayments option for this sort of thing, it has lower rates.

A yearly fee is the better option when we're dealing with low figures. Go for the 12 bucks, instead. I would.
