How to become an authority in internet marketing

Well, most of you might know this by now, that if you want to see your business grow into a 6/7 figure income generating business you need to become an authority (create a following of people who like you and are always eager to know what you are offering) and not so many people will teach you how to do this.

As an internet marketer I got to know that for you to be a leader you need to offer people valuable info and get to solve their problems and that way they will get to like you and will most probably buy what you sell to them.

But... To be a leader it takes time and money. To give valuable info you need to know where to get it .

But there are various places (Not so many) where you can get valuable info to give to your subscribers.

So,, A VERY IMPORTANT TIP to EVERYONE who are trying to become a leader in their industry, take a note on the above.

I might share with you a link on webinar that was held a few days ago that will be an eye opener to you. (Not sure if i can put the link here-since it will look like I'm trying to promote something)

But anyway.. ALWAYS GIVE PEOPLE VALUABLE INFO..

Cheers!

No offense my friend, but you just explained the official, "Fake it Till You Make it Method."

To be a leader, it doesn't take time or money...it takes knowledge. And as far as where you can get that knowledge from, it's all over this little thing we call the INTERNET. So go to authority websites, learn everything you can, get experience by actually doing what you're studying and see for yourself what really works well. And after years of working hard, studying and making serious money by practicing what you preach, people will start to see you as a leader.

Well. i beg to differ. To get the knowledge, you need time... You need to acquire material that is relevant to your industry. If everything was given for free we would all have the "knowledge" that we need.

The best materials are not always for free man.. You have to invest in yourself, in both time and money. It might not cost much but still, it cost something.

Everything that's for "free" in the internet is accessible to everyone and thus you wont really be saying/giving people anything new.

The policy as you said has always been Learn-Do-Teach

      Thanks.

Everything you need is given for free, but you have to want it enough to go out and find it. But the term "authority" that you're talking about is not knowledge-based...it's action based. The knowledge is just the start, the execution is where people begin to know your name and pay attention to your brand.

Don't take my word for it though....just look at any one of the millions of global brands out there. They didn't get where they are by buying a $49 eBook...they got there from taking knowledge and knowing how to apply it.

          Isn't it rather self-fulfilling?

Being an authority/expert in something (to me) means you've pretty much figured out every possible way of failing in a niche/vertical and thus know how to maneuver better than most due to trial/error/success.

Being an authority comes as a reflection of your past, the work you put in, you don't just become an OG because you want to so bad or because you can theorize and package how others have done it.

Doing 7-8figures you often don't really give a crap about 'teaching others how to' or if you are an authority, you're just hustling an empire that has organically grown on you and you eb/flow with it.

Conclusion: Let your work and history of success/failure/transparency speak for you if you intend to monetize yourself the way you're trying to. In the end, InternetMarketing is but a branch of a business that happens to be online, it's not a 'thing' that far beyond these walls sans the typical "i did it and you can too!" dripped dummy intel launches..

Very interesting getting an update on this thread today, especially since I am at a "Real World" sales seminar today that focuses on "becoming an authority" and "getting sales".

This is really a basic need in order to excel in any business including online marketing.

Here are some positive "authority" techniques to help become a better overall marketer.

How To Make Your Customers Want to Do Business with You

This is something alot of online marketers, that forget that you need to be able to do before you can "drive thousands of visitors to a site".

Failing is a part of anyone that is always learning. Even "great authority" leaders can still error, but it's their overall ability to see that error and inform others with a plan of action that make them a "respected authority".

Authority = an accepted source of information, advice

To be an authority you need good information. There are a number of ways to become known for having good information.

Fast way to get there = Publish.

if you publish podcasts, blog posts, videos or an email newsletter you are heading down the right track.

When your audience share this information, get results and return then you are an authority (to them).

Creating value is a good strategy.

Do you realize this can be true for everything in this World to a certain extent.

But people are willing to pay for the convenience of valuable information that is put together in one place in a very diligent and efficient manner

Not exactly. If your information is valuable, you are not faking anything.

Imagine this. You start out with a little group of people who know very little. You go out and do the work to learn something they need to know, and you come back and tell them.

Continue this, and your little group of people will begin to know more. You hjaven't faked anything. You've actually gone and done the work - and you've brought it back to them.

Now they know it. That makes them a little better, and you in turn are continuing to do the work and the research.

You grow. Your followers grow. More people see that your followers are growing and improving. They join your group. It gets larger.

You don't have to be famous or rich or already established. And you don't have to tell people you are. Tell them the truth: that you're doing this thing and you learned this stuff and hey, maybe they'd like to know it too.

As you collect more and more stuff, you gather it into thematically-related packages and charge money for them.

Keep cycling through this, and you end up with a massive following. You've never faked anything. You've never told a lie. You've never told your followers anything stupid or that you pulled out of your bunghole.

The idea that you have to go off and pay your dues first is simply not accurate. You don't have to. You just have to operate with integrity and honesty.

Now, if you're a lying sack of crap, you could easily do something similar where you give people worthless information and then go "ooh, the market has changed, you have to do this instead" and turn around to sell more worthless information. Then you never have to learn anything! You can just sell lies to idiots and make a pretty good living. Lots of people do it.

The question is whether that's the busness you want to be in. Anything you can do honestly and ethically, you can do dishonestly and unethically every bit as well - except you'll be able to do it faster and easier and probably make more money.

Dosn't change the fact that the method works honestly and ethically, too. Everything that works can be used for good, or for evil. The choice is yours.

Well, to become a REAL authority, you should be able to walk the walk. This means you have to show results. You can't just talk theory or spout 'information.' Everyone's doing that. That's hardly going to make you stand out from the crowd.

I think he's trying to tell us that to come off as an expert you have to genuinely help people and do whatever it takes to become knowledgeable enough to help others out.

Frankly....that piece of advice wasn't a life changer for me. It's super basic and I personally don't think you needed to start a thread just to share that!

Just another link dropping thread I guess?

How to become an authority? Join a affiliate/referral program and push hundreds of thousands of dollars in leads and sales their way. You'll learn really quickly if you're an authority because you'll either make a fortune which will reinforce what you think you know, or you'll go bust and confirm what you thought you knew but didn't really know.

  • To become an experienced marketer you have to continuously read and learn about the industry then apply the knowledge you've learned. The more hands-on you get, the more experience you gain.

You do not stop learning as well. You need to have the right mind setting and accept that you will fail in most circumstances. But these experiences will definitely teach you a lot of things to improve and eventually become successful in your marketing efforts.

Personally, I think that one of the biggest mistakes people make is thinking they need to be an "expert" within a particular field to build an authority website for that niche. "Expert" is just a relative term. People don't know as much you think they know. Just because YOU know a lot about a particular topic, doesn't mean THEY do too. Once you eliminate this false belief, you'll find that you're capable of helping much more people that you ever imagined. Just my two cents...

Once you start to earn a really nice income online, you then can take that knowledge and share it with others.

While there are many great leaders who say that they have huge authority when it comes to earning money online, the sad part is that they don't teach you 100% of what they know. There are very few who do.

If you are just making some sales here and there, you are still not an authority in this industry.

You can't just talk the talk. You have to walk the walk.

According to Malcolm Gladwell, in his book - Outliers, it took someone to practice 10,000 hours of particular task/skill to become an expert.

Example that he used is Bill Gates, Beatles and many more.

Being an expert in something and perceived as expert by others could be a totally different thing.

You can be a leader in a field that you are totally new.

You have to make yourself knowledgeable in that field by reading and listen to a lot of materials about that field.

You have to know who are the expert in that field.

You have to be honest that you are a newbie, be yourself.

Claiming yourself as someone who you are not will drain your energy level.

Present at a lot of event (online and offline).

Choose to be different, you want people to quickly recognize your present and get familiar with you.

To be an authority you do need to be able to provide high quality information and solutions, but you also NEED great marketing (a brand with a good usp that gets lots of exposure) and great sales copy.

It takes either time or money, but as long as you keep pushing your brand, continuously getting it in front of your target market, continuously growing and improving, and you focus on providing high quality and high converting copy, you will become an authority.

Be up to date on your market and what is trending, educate yourself and in return provide that value to your list and readership and you will establish authority. Maybe you can even find a popular figure in your market and ask for a short skype interview or something and just create like 5 trending questions that you can ask this professional and in return that can make you look good.

Maybe try to do some guess posting on some popular blogs to not only establish authority but to help brand yourself as well. And of course set up a facebook page and other social accounts and be social with fun, interested content that might even be off your business matter but is more likely to get shared, commented and liked again branding your image across the web more.

Set up tracking and follow what is working and what is not

You talk about being an authority in the market....yet I've never heard of you before.

I know most a good number of the 6,7, and 8 figure marketers in our space... yet your name has never come up.

I copy and pasted your name into Google, and you know what happens? It asks me if I mean some other guy named Vincent.

Maybe you should actually become an authority in the market before trying to tell people how you think they should become one.

Honestly, I think the best value that you can give your 'audience' comes from testing, which I guess could boil down to personal knowledge. Since I love to do SEO and see whats working, I run lots of experiments and share the results. While it's helpful to myself to document the results of these tests, it's also extremely valuable for my readers because I'm not just saying 'hey, do this because it works' -- I'm actually showing the data to back it up.

There aren't too many people ( that I know of ) who're doing constant testing in the SEO field and sharing the results. I think it's the best way to build trust and eventually, become an authority in the field.
