I run AntiVirus on my Windows machines... but in my experience some spyware gets through. Recently my laptop got a noxious infection of pop-up adware. I fooled-around with different things for awhile until I found a spyware-killer I have used before, but forgotten about. It's called Spybot Search & Destroy. It's free and it works very, very well in my experience. Two full-scans and cleanups later my laptop is back to working normally. A word to the wise - scan and eliminate Spyware regularly - because by the time you notice the signs you already probably have a bunch of invisible spyware running you don't know about. I'm not a paranoid person - but I've learned this lesson before... and forgotten it. The cost to me was several hours of aggravation researching and implementing. Don't be dumb like me. Scan your Windows machine tonight and kill the spyware and reduce the chances you'll get a nasty outbreak like I got. Here's the link to check it out. Highest recommendation. The home of Spybot-S&D! |

One thing you have to watch out for with Spybot is false postives. In the past few months I have been told my computer was infected only to go to the site and find it was a Spybot issue. Other than that it is a good tool. |

I'm a big fan of using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. It seems to catch problems that my other scans don't catch. Regardless of what program(s) you like to use, however, it is very important to keep that program and its definitions updated. A lot of the really bad spyware actually blocks your antivirus programs from accessing the internet which, I must say, is a pain. |
