THE Best Ways to Get Blog Traffic and Comments

I have just started a new blog and creating valuable blog posts daily about the internet marketing niche.

Appreciate it does take time to build a following.

But would you care to share what has worked the best for you to drive traffic and increase visitor interactions?

Thanks for your suggestions as I am always willing to learn.

I like to be active in many ways in my website/blog. Video content to my list and written content keep them interested. You have to create interest in your Niche so people enjoy what they read and see. Think about how you would like to be entertained? Social Media that connects you to the Warrior forum will help as you continue to put your energy here too. I send my stuff out to a list as well as use social media.-Facebook. I also have a business page for my niche on facebook and generate a buzz for people to like it. I also have a Linkedin page where I paste the same info. My blog on my webiste is another. So find 3 or 4 things that extend around your blog and connect them back with a link. Get an opt-in page so that people will give you their email in return for something free and valuable you are giving them. And then continue passionately so you can funnel them into your sales eventually. Depending on what niche you are in you can drive paid traffic as well. All the other suggestions will only cost you your time and what you pay for blogsite and opt-in page. You will also need an autoresponder...it is best to pay for all of this stuff because you can find that free stuff can come with somethings you may not like. And whatever you do , do it consistently, every day, every week....I have been delivering short video messages week after week and I watched my numbers grow. So consistency is the key.....

Thanks Jennifer - Great advice especially the "passionate" part. I'm sure blog visitors will react more and more as they get to you you and your passion for your topic will surely help this along.

Increasing engagement can be as simple as asking questions. Seriously. Take a look at backlinko.com and look at how Brian Dean asks questions of his blog readers.

Of course, your content must get the reader 'emotionally invested' so they would want to leave a comment.

I need to ask more questions that's for sure. Interesting point - thank you

If you've got quality content, then start looking for syndication partners in your niche.

If a few owners of high ranking sites in your niche accept your article/s, and they post them on their sites, you'll start seeing targeted traffic flow to your blog in a short space of time

Thanks for this Glen. That's exactly what I'll be doing re syndication partners. Hopefully they will see some value in accepting my particular spin on things relating to MMO and internet marketing. Anything else people have found that works well? Apart from the usual social media sites I have also tried using sites CNN iReport and Bubblews.com to drive traffic and they work really well. But engagement is still my issue.

If you're updating a blog and hoping Google will deliver, you'll be hoping all the way up until the day you quit. Seriously. Nowadays, you need to think beyond your blog, by growing traffic platforms and syndicating blog posts to them. And even that isn't enough. If traffic exists online, you need to learn how to target it, acquire it, and monetize it.

Tom thanks and I agree with you re the traffic. I am using Onlywire to syndicate my blog posts which is probably OK for backlinks but it does nothing for engagement.
Apart from commenting on other blogs are there any other ideas people have used to rapidly increase their blog visitor engagement (comments)?

    Peter,

First, in many cases -- The subject matter and how it's presented mainly dictate the engagement of the viewer ...

For example -- In many instances, timely Controversial news stories, opinionated feature topics and thought-provoking discussions in social communities are the ones that get the most engagement from the largest number of people at the fastest possible time ...

Second, once you know those timely controversial news stories, opinionated feature topics and thought-provoking discussions currently being searched for, viewed, shared and talked of in popular social communities that are relevant to your target audience --

You can drive traffic to your blog and build up your regular readership base by:

    • Writing posts in your blog about these things while injecting your own perspectives, opinions and overall character (through the tone and style of your content); and

    • Regularly initiating relevant thought-provoking discussions and sharing your insights, opinions and commentaries to popular discussions in those social communities can consistently drive traffic to your blog and build up your regular readership base ...

For example -- If the hottest and most controversial topic in your target niche IM market at the moment is Google's confirmation that they'll be rolling out a paid ads-free subscription for Youtube this June ...

    ... Then ...

... You can write an engaging, opinionated post with your unique, logically sound concepts in your blog about this topic; and

... You can then initiate discussions and participate in relevant conversations about this topic in Facebook groups, LinkedIn groups, Web forums, blog networks and other social communities that are relevant to your target audience ...

Third, there are different tactics for compelling your target audience to comment on your posts, share your posts and do whatever you want after viewing your content ...

This mainly depends on the specific characteristics of your target audience ...
... i.e. How many of them would most likely react to a topic if you present it in certain ways ...

    • Asking the right questions in your posts is one tactic; and

    • Another way is to share unique, logically sound concepts in entertaining ways that could most likely be helpful to what your target audience is currently doing ...

... This can compel many viewers to start asking their own questions (most of them probably haven't heard your unique concepts anywhere else) ...

Also, since you mentioned that you operate in the IM industry --

Why not study the most recent threads in relevant Web forums like this one, specifically threads that have lots of views and comments?

This could perhaps give you some ideas on how to engage your target audience, compel them to leave comments, share your content, initiate and participate in ongoing conversations in your blog, or essentially do whatever you want ...

Michael many many thanks for your excellent suggestions. I always try to provide value using my own "spin" on things but I have never used the "latest trends" or "controversial news item" strategies....and I also need to improve my questioning skills. Great ideas and support that is much appreciated mate.

First and foremost you need to look out for the target audience. I believe that today most of the target audience in any niche prevails in social media the most. Prefer looking out for a strategy and opportunity to have those audience engaged and benefited. Either through images, videos or infographics. And that way you can have a good impact with generating the blog traffic.

Thanks for your thoughts and yes the idea of targeting a specific problem, pain or frustration in a niche is a great suggestion - I've done this with some product creation but completely forgot this strategy when it came to my blog!!!

I think the key here to understand what the audience wants and deliver that. The problems that most marketers face is connecting to the audience. We should not push down the throat of our audience what we want to hard sell. We should provide information that they seek. Like i read slogan of one of the electronic megastore "We help you buy"

    Cheers,

    Andy

You're right Andy about giving my audience what they seek. I will definitely take this on board but I also need to "create" an audience for my blog as well. Others in this stream have provided some great ideas for that part that I hope other warriors have also benefited from. Many thanks for your valuable contribution mate.

"There's no such thing as negative publicity" (love that quote)

Write controversial blog posts that stir up debate (within the boundaries of remaining respectful to your audience of course). People LOVE talking about themselves and giving their own opinions on stuff.

I got your message loud and clear re "controversy" - for sure I have been too meek and mild in trying to create supportive valuable content. Thanks for this controversial kick in the pants! I needed it.

    Hey Peter-

I didn't answer you yesterday because you're humbly asking a question that your signature claims you'e already an expert at...do you see the problem there?

The number one thing I've found over the years while building followings for many different brands is that honesty is absolutely essential. If your readers see a hidden agenda, they're gone. If your content doesn't give great advice, they're gone. If you go for funny and fail...they'll make fun of you, then they're gone.

So before you even try to build a following, make sure that all of your content is genuine and offers real advice that's not already on 10,000 blogs already. Reposting a paragraph then tying in someone else's video is a start...but that doesn't give anyone confidence that you know what you're talking about. Next, make sure that your site loads quickly and can handle traffic before you start pushing it toward you...the one blog I clicked on took 13 seconds to load. Also, update your navigation so you don't look like a squeeze page with a few extras on it...all of those little issues tell people that you don't care if they have a good experience on your site or not.

I hope that helped, because you're not quite ready for any traffic yet.

Firstly let me say thanks for your honest advice. You are 100% correct re the traffic signature. Sure that membership site is great and its mine but I did not actually create it. I am very familiar with all types of traffic sources but was just wanting to know what people have found to be THE most effective to build a brand new blog's engagement level.

Paid traffic is obviously one of the quicker solutions compared to blog posting and syndicating posts but paid traffic will not really build engagement and that was my main concern.

I have always tried to be genuine and add value on my posts but I have never really checked to see if the topic I am covering is already done on "10,000 blogs already" - that advice is truly appreciated.

On many posts I do have links to an optin so if this is a "hidden agenda" then I'm guilty of that.

I've actually tried using content curation on some of my posts so I assume this is what you were referring to - it's something I want to continue with but in future I will add even more of my "take" on the specific issue.

Re the "navigation" issue if it was the post via signature link then yes it was similar to a sales page created with content curation where I was encouraging people to at least check out the traffic membership site...so again guilty as charged!

Not sure why the site loads so slowly - thanks for this feedback and will definitely check it out.

Appreciate very much your comments as I am determined to make a success of this blog. Obviously I have a lots to do. Thanks

I'm in the same boat. Of course paid traffic would be the easiest and quickest method. If you are looking for more organic traffic then it's going to take lots of time and lots of engagement with people. Doing videos, posting on forums, blog commenting, Q/A, social media, article marketing, SEO, etc.

There are countless ways to get traffic, but I think if you are looking to do it the free way you are going to have to get in the trenches and fight your way out. Hope this helps, but it's the same boat I'm in right now lol.

Appreciate your comments and situation. I do a lot of video marketing and always embed or at least link back to my blog. I also provide links to my blog posts to my list but you're right - it takes time.

I have just started using Onlywire to syndicate my posts across many social media platforms so hopefully that will help with some additional comments as well as back links for traffic. But I feel that the best way to increase engagement as has been mentioned in this thread is to provide more quality value blog content and make the time to go commenting on other blogs in my niche. Good luck to you and thanks for taking the time to comment
