Hey Everyone,

I use to regularly follow this website until I took a break and it lasted for couple of years. I wasn't much part of the community but I was a daily reader.

Since its been a while I have been out of touch and I want to step back in so I thought of starting a movie blog. Just one website. This time failure is not an option. I really need some guidance on where abouts should I get started with this movie blog. Its more of an entertainment + celebrity website. I have already registered the domain and hosting.

Any movie bloggers or those who run celeb websites can help me on how to get started? It is for some certain demographic.

    Welcome back!

Before you go any further, I'd like to suggest you find a mentor. There are mentors in all niches, even the Movie World niche, which is quite vast. A mentor will help you dig deeper and help you find a sub-niche that resonates with you and potential visitors to your awesome blog.

I wish you good luck with this fascinating venture. Keep smiling!

Good job in getting back in the game

That being said from my own experiene this is a tough Niche to crack and make any money doing it.

I had a celebrity gossip blog a few years back. I put in a lot of work with a lot of content but it really got nowhere.

Iam not saying it can't be done, but it will be tough.

Only people making bank are people like Perez Hilton and he makes money selling ad space based on the amount of Traffic he pulls in. Which is considerable.

Getting an mentor is defiantly the way to go. I'm not really in your niche so my advice is limited but the first thing I would do is to have a look at other sites out there which are in the same niche like your site (the most successful ones of course).

Analyse what they do. What content they publish. What backlinks they have. What people respond to their blog posts. What questions do they have and what problems recommendations. This is really crucial because those sites are already successful.

There are many free tools and sites out there which give you the chance to find out almost everything about those sites, their backlinks, the demographic from their readers and where they get their traffic from.

That's the point to start with!

    Welcome back, Smokee.

As Robert has said: tough niche to crack. I work in it myself, but I treat it as a hobby, and I work in a certain genre.

    Some suggestions:

    1. If you cover the general movie market, try to think of a less competitive angle for your blog. A USP.

    2. Monetize with a combination of PPL and PPS offers. The PPLs should get you earnings that bit quicker.

    3. Grow traffic platforms on social networks. This will get your traffic flowing. In this market, you also need to learn viral marketing.

It's a fun journy you've started. My parting advice: plan it out in extreme detail before you begin.

Just out of curiosity, what did you do before you left? Perhaps you can leverage your past experiences and knowledge?

There are a fair bit of these sites already, but if done correctly, i don't see why you couldn't find success

Honestly, I do not think you need a mentor...you just need a good, swift kick in the rear to get you motivated.

Celebrity sites do require a lot of work because the breaking story right now is forgotten in a few hours, so you'd have to be posting videos and leaving unique commentary all day long. So before you proceed down this path, know that-

    1) You'll work long hours every day and not see any return for several months minimum
    2) Your content goes "stale" much quicker than other niches, which means when you stop posting, your site dies
    3) You'll also have to work social media like a fiend to keep up the page hits. So step one in this process is building up your social channels.

If you're good with all of that, then go for it my friend. I personally would not go that route but hey, if you manage to post 15-25 topics a day for the next 3+ years, you could have a million dollar site on your hands that Yahoo gobbles right up. It's going to take that kind of prolific effort for you to make it though....either you're wildly successful or you'll be a flop.

Here's a billion dollar idea for you smokee...

    First, take a look at

    http://www.lookats.com/

It is an early entry into live broadcasting from cell phone.

    Now imagine this>>>>>>

Paparazzi armed with iPhones broadcasting live reports of celebrities. The guys at TMZ are hooked into a celebrity activity switchboard, and like the Nightcrawlers of the world, they rush to get the photo, but, imagine a live event...

Now your site could have as many celebs as you want, along with imdb type info, and a paid subscription to watch Alec Baldwin LIVE from NY, fighting with photogs.

IF you were one of the first into it, you might rapidly develop a following and maybe even create a buyout for a TMZ, ET type of company with bux. Just like the stringers, nightcrawlers and Papanazis, you pay only for content or by worth of celebrity. A Taylor Swift make-out video from a nightclub could create more traffic than you can handle.

    Thinking cap ON.

I'm not speaking from direct experience by any means, but it seems like social media marketing would be beneficial in this niche, particularly Twitter and Pinterest.

    HI smokee,

Agree with Kurt's comments above relating to social media and include FB with a fanpage etc. This was something I dabbled in about 3-4 years ago but in all honesty it is a big niche to get into and to establish your brand it could take considerable time and effort before it shows any rewards, but on the other hand if you persevere the rewards could be great.

I had other projects at the time and this was more of a small project just to test the water.

    (Welcome back!)

Thanks alot everyone for the warm welcome.

Well the thing is, my movie blog targets a certain country and it has no big blog or website who is dealing with this. There are Facebook pages and blogspots who can be a competition but there is no such website. The reason? The cinema of that country is reviling, and this might be a good point to start because as the industry grows, the blog grows?

    What do you guys think?

First off welcome back ! Since you already have taken the first basic steps. You will want to spend more time and planning on building your self up in that niche. Then spending it here on this forum. You need to be very passionate about this industry. If you are in it just for the money don't waste your time.

Since you want to do this with out quitting, you need to spend all your time pursuing this like the prior posters have said. Since you will be on the ground floor in your country you have a good shot. Lay a great foundation from the start. If you take the right steps you can grow with the industry and not have the same trouble as here in the US. I would give it a few years too grow and you have to hustle all the time. If you think you are going to hit pay dirt right away. You will not ! Good luck and get started

Let's just assume for a second, earning money is never easy. Building something from the scratch is never child's play. It does require alot of effort and time.

The real reason I posted here is I need some help with questions I have in mind. For example:

        1) Since this is from scratch, just create a Facebook Page and buy fake likes to create a social presence?
        2) Once the article has been posted, what places should I be posting about?
        3) How would I be starting to create backlinks?
        4) Instagram, Twitter & Pinterest should be my concern? What about Youtube? Since its a movie blog, I would be requiring to post trailers, news and etc.
